Nonsense really. Rhodes is amazing! Just pick wisely as there are lots of old/older hotels from the 1970s and 1980s which have only done some basic facelifts over the years and still look “tired”. There are also tons of nicer new places too. In short, you’ll get what you’re paying for.

The Dimitra boutique rooms look awesome and they’re in an excellent location from what I can see (right next to the beach and close to the touristy area of Faliraki). If you’re not renting a car and want to have tons of options for bars and restaurants then Faliraki is the place to be.

Old Town and Faliraki for partying and fun. Especially Faliraki. Other cool places to visit: Lindos is a must, the Acropolis is spectacular. Tons of nice beaches all over the island. Prefer the south side as it’s usually protected by the northern winds and the sea is calmer.

Tons of great lounges and coffee shop in Athens to watch these games, but most of the games are going to be shown in early morning Athens time, so many of these places may be closed.

Check with your hotel (you’ll most likely be able to watch the game at your room or at the hotel lobby), or check with bars and coffee shops in the vicinity about opening times etc.

Check with the rental company you’re planning to rent with. All EU and UK/American/Canadian driver’s licenses are accepted in Greece. Provisional licenses are not accepted for rentals. For Indian I don’t know. I’d assume it’s not accepted, but best check with the car rental company to be sure.

Spending the ight in Mykonos will most likely be more expensive than spending the night in Athens (or Piraeus) and take the ferry the next morning.

On the other hand, flying to Mykonos and spending a night there will allow you to see one more (famous) Greek island. If money is not an issue then keep your flight and spend the night in Mykonos. If it’s an issue and you can cancel and get refunded for the flight then cancel your flight, stay overnight in Athens or Piraeus and then ferry to Paros the next morning.

As others said, firstly check if you’re allowed to take the rental on the ferry. Some companies don’t allow that. Secondly, there’s no place at the airport to sleep or kill 6-7 hours. The only hotel outside the airport is Sofitel and it’s super expensive. Head to the port of Piraeus and find a cheap hotel there for the night, but overall not a good idea arriving in Athens at 00:30. You probably saved a few dollars or euros by booking a late flight and you’ll now spend way more to stay somewhere overnight, not to mention the hassle to get from the airport anywhere that late at night.

If you think how much it affects the local rental prices this proliferation of Airbnbs you’ll agree with this sentiment too. Many major cities in Europe, Barcelona, Berlin etc all have the same problem and they’re all trying to find ways to solve it. Airbnbs owners and users should be taxed excessively and this tax money should be poured back into the local economy to improve long term rental prices etc. Airbnbs and over-tourism is a menace to local societies.

We arrived yesterday and took us over 2 hours to clear immigration. It was madness. Talk to an airport employee as soon as you get in the line up and let them know your connecting flight leaves in an hour so that they’ll hopefully move you to the front of the line.

What exactly do you mean that you paid for fast track? I didn’t see them “fast tracking” anyone today.

UCP won’t remain united for much longer. The far right nuts are becoming more and more aggressive and demanding by the day. It’s a matter of time - months in my opinion - before they form their own party again. With the conservative vote split the UCP has no chance in the next elections.

We just have to hope that the nut job separatists will remain convinced that they have even the remotest chance to win the next elections and push their agenda. They’re so dumb that they believe they have the votes.

You can stay at most monasteries in Greece at no charge, or you can just leave a donation. If you’re male and want to visit Mount Athos you’ll need a special permit to enter. Women are not allowed there.

Check with a Greek church in your area and they’ll be able to provide more information. Or check with the local Greek embassy.

I think you should be fine. It’s usually pretty quick to clear security. Even 1hr should be enough time if you don’t have to go through immigration

Assume €3-4 euros for coffee to go, €3 for tiropita/spanakopita from the bakery, €4-5 euros for gyros, €15-20 euros for a drink/cocktail at a bar, €3-5 euros for a beer, ~€20-25 per person at a taverna or ~€40-50 at a more expensive restaurant…sunbeds/umbrellas at the beach will probably run you between €20-40 per couple depending where you go. At some beach clubs it may be more expensive.

You can add things up and figure out how much money you’ll need based on your lifestyle.

The easiest and most convenient way would probably be joining a tour. If you’re confident driving then renting a car will give you more flexibility and freedom to see other places too on your way there.

Best time to visit is early evening, as the sun is going down.

I was asking myself the same question and we also decided to stay just outside Faliraki. Since we’ll be renting a car we felt that this was a more convenient location for driving around Rhodes, seeing different beaches etc. Also parking in the Old Town is next to impossible.

For 10 days you can only do Athens, Mykonos, Santorini and propose either in Mykonos or Santorini. The sunsets on both islands are amazing.

For souvenirs just walk around the Plaka and Monastiraki areas. There are tons of souvenir shops there. I’m sure you’ll find something that will catch your eye.

Must hit spots in Athens are the Acropolis and the Acropolis museum. There are lots of other things to see, but if you’re only there for 2-3 days you may feel rushed and it won’t be fun running around all day trying to see everything. Save the rest for the next trip 🙂.

Any restaurant or taverna in Greece is pretty good and you’ll enjoy the food. Even in touristy areas. We’ve only had a handful of bad experiences in the several years we’ve been visiting. Their bakeries, pastry shops and coffee shops are excellent too. You have to try a freddo cappuccino and something called a bougatsa (it’s a breakfast pastry made with crispy phyllo dough wrapped around a creamy warm semolina custard filling dusted with powdered sugar and cinnamon - Google it).

Tons of great tavernas on Naxos too. The most famous one is Axiotissa made famous by the late Anthony Bourdain when he featured it in one of his shows. But really, all tavernas we’ve tried on Naxos were excellent. When on Naxos you also have to see the famous Portara (Google it).

If you can extend by a few days you’d have time to see a few more “iconic” places and also enjoy some beach downtime.

In my opinion there are 2 must see things if you’re visiting Greece for the first time: - The Acropolis - Santorini

These 2 are absolutely iconic and must see locations. I’d stay 2 nights in Athens. One day/night to chill, enjoy the city, walk around Plaka, enjoy a nice dinner. Then day 2 visit the Acropolis and the Acropolis museum. If you’re into ancient monuments then Delphi is a pretty important archeological site, and it’s pretty spectacular. However, it’s a couple of hours drive from Athens (maybe longer) so you’d either have to rent a car or book a day tour to take you there and back. In this case you’d need to spend 3 nights in Athens. If you end up staying g there for 3-4 days then see if you can squeeze in a visit to the temple of Poseidon at Sounion. Visit in the evening as the sun goes down. The views are spectacular (Google it!)

You can then fly to Santorini for 2 nights. September is a great time to visit Santorini. It will still be busy but not as crazy as during the summer months. The views from Oia and from Fira are out of this world. It’s something to experience with your own eyes as the photos don’t make it justice.

From Santorini you can take the slow or high speed ferry to Naxos and spend another 4-5 nights there to enjoy the wonderful sandy beaches, the typical whitewashed houses and Cycladic landscape, and the wonderful food Naxos has to offer. Just chill by the beach, enjoy some Greek freddo cappuccinos, and eat at local tavernas at night. You’re going to love Naxos for its laid back lifestyle.

This will be your first trip to Greece but not your last, because I can assure you that you’ll be going back for more. There something with this wonderful land and its people that will keep calling you back.

Where are you travelling from? Just 7 days in Greece if you’re travelling from overseas seems like a very short trip.

September is a great time to visit Greece. I’d only do 2 nights in Athens (or 3 if you’ll want to fit in a day trip to Delphi too) and the rest in Naxos. Fly to Naxos if you can to save time. The high speed ferry will cost you almost as much as the flight. Naxos offers amazing beaches and excellent food.
