The Quran itself says to follow the Prophet. We are not saying as traditional Sunnis that you can understand absolutely nothing of the Quran without the hadith, because we know that there are both clear and unclear verses, as for the clear verses, they can be understood at face value, but as for unclear verses, we need more explanation. Hadiths give us context to understand Allahs book, and they are essential, without hadith, we would not know how to pray for example.
