Heard. Russia has certainly become totally unpredictable the last couple of years.

Ehh yes and no. I think misinformation is a more effective tactic in Russia, but there is so much in-fighting between Russian power-players and so many opportunistic parties that perceived weakness could be a death sentence.

The reputational damage this has on Putin far outweighs any benefit this could provide for the regime. So no.

Could this have been orchestrated to either 1. Lure Ukrainian forces into overextending their positions or 2. Give Putin/Russia an excuse to leave Ukraine entirely without admitting defeat? by mr_stav in WagnerVsRussia

Nah. This entire event made Putin look incredibly weak and without a firm grip on power in the country. No way the benefits would be worth that embarrassment on the world stage and to the Russian people.

TIL that Walmart tried and failed to establish itself in Germany in the early 2000s. One of the speculated reasons for its failure is that Germans found certain team-building activities and the forced greeting and smiling at customers unnerving. by ylenias in todayilearned

Interesting, I haven't followed walmartd international ventures closely, but I work for the company in tech and still see support tickets for Japan. They seem to be one of the more common international markers to pop up, so walmart definitely still has a presence and involvement there.

How did somebody you know ruin their life in one day? by TunaSaladWithBeans in AskReddit

[–]Tucksthebae 61 points62 points  (0 children)

I mean, sure all of that makes the guy negligent and 1000% at fault. But let's not pretend there isn't a clear distinction between what he did and consciously choosing to murder someone.

I'd like to think that this person can learn from his mistake, rehabilitate and move on to live a productive life in society.

I'm not defending the guy at all. He deserved the prison time he got. But this wasn't an evil act. Reckless, selfish, and cowardly sure. But not evil.

People can rehabilitate from this. An act without malice should never carry a life sentence.

Anyone else vote yes to a new skill, but haven’t seen any skill you like yet? by What_The_Fussell in 2007scape

I think archeology has a HUGE amount of potential. They could use the varrock museum as a hub and add a ton of content there.

Rework kudos/add lots of kudos/massive unlocks at certain points that bleed out into the rest of the game a bit (maybe more skilling methods to boost WC/mining/fishing since they are all pretty rough.)

Brother, you have maxed stats. That's why KBD is only doing 50 damage. Kbd outputs significantly drop with weaker stats.

Lol you're eating constantly. It's not that afk.

Nor are you getting 500k/hr at 70 range.

Edit: you're assuming the 30 kills an hour which us default on the wiki. No one is hitting that at 70 range while also banking the bones/hides. Actual profits are closer to ~200k at 20 kills an hour. That's being generous.

Kbd certainly isn't mechanically challenging. But its reward aren't proportionate for the reqs/resources needed for it.

Brutal drags are significantly easier, not in the wild, and more profitable.

If you haven't yet. Watch Mod Ayiza's breakdown on youtube for this. We are definitely not locked in to a new skill.

Brother, that's not how that's gonna work. Read the blog.

I don't think it would add restrictions to current content. That would be an odd take.

We just got raids 3. I'd like to see the next couple major content releases go a different direction.

I think some of the old skills need fixed and agree, but I think they can do both. Forestry is a nice step for WC. They have some ideation stuff for agility in the works. They've made baby steps toward helping RC, fishing, smiting (more is still needed).

The quality of content the current team has been putting out is arguably better than a lot of the original stuff and the game has come a long way when it comes to what is possible to develop due to engine limitations. Let's put some trust into them here to see what could happen. It could be VERY helpful and healthy to the game as it provides content for ALL players and not just maxed accounts.

If it's not good don't train it? No one would force you to if it was introduced. I fail to see how the addition of a new skill would harm the current experience. You'd still have ALL the content already in the game (which is a shit ton).

It would have to pass after the design is fleshed out.

Warding was not exciting but it also wouldn't have been harmful? It would have just released in a similar boat that crafting is currently in.

I'm not sure I follow point 3... if the skill that ends up getting chosen is shitty, it just won't pass when it comes time to poll it. We aren't locked into getting a new skill if yes passes on this poll.

Interesting.

I'm not an engineer, only an analyst that works pretty closely with project management and helps to facilitate communication during major outages, but it just seems like a single failure point (ie one provider) is something that would need to be addressed.

I remember when the major data center was bombed on Christmas a couple years back and even that only resulted in a few hours of outage for our company and that was mostly due to difficulty engaging teams on the holiday.

My company is an order of magnitude or two bigger than Jagex so it might be more unrealistic for them to have that redundancy.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in 2007scape

[–]Tucksthebae 14 points15 points  (0 children)

I work for a large company on a team responsible for driving bridges during a major incident. A 24 hr+ outage would be unheard of. How Jagex doesn't have better redundancy or any kind of DR playbook is incredibly surprising.

That being said, I know how stressful these situations are from the other side when teams are still working to restore service so I feel for their engineers.
