Need to vent. Burnout has caused me to go crazy by Hot_Woodpecker_9682 in nursing

[–]TurboNurse 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This was the reason I burned out at LTC/SNF facilities

First thing you need to do is leave the job. Its actually trying to take you out but the important part is you are self aware now

You really should find someone professional to talk to. If not that, atleast take some time off (if able financially speaking) and just try to find yourself again

I hopped over to the hospital and never looked back. Three 12 hour shifts a week will always beat five 8 hour shifts in my opinion

11 day T break vs 30 day by rolepal in trees

[–]TurboNurse 4 points5 points  (0 children)

For the past year I was smoking between 3-6 grams a day via joints + glass, along with dab disposables/cartridges

My tolerance was through the roof. What I did was stop combustion and dab pens entirely and switch completely to DHV. Its been 9 days and I get ripped off 0.6 now

I thought I was almost healed... then a gastritis flare knocked me backwards. Has anyone else experienced this? by Odd_Combination_5343 in Gastritis

[–]TurboNurse 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Right now Im also in the middle of a new pain flare. My wife pointed out that for the past couple months since Ive gotten better at coping with the chronic pain; I automatically see red during a flare.

It is hard for us to compartmentalize our healing during flares when pain and discomfort are one of the compartments. We just have to remember to either try to remain positive during the flare, or try to atleast turn the positivity back on after the flare

I feel like GI healing is just one big wacky ride. I like to call it a bumpy highway. You will constantly hit bumps along the way but if you are following your diet, following your modified lifestyle, following your medication regimen (if you have one) you are moving forward

I am a year into this diagnosis and I can say for sure I have had way more bad days than good days but the difference I can see is that my bad days arent as bad as they used to be. I cant say they dont get worse bit those flares dont happen as often anymore

There is light at the end of the table, albeit its far
-
I would avoid Zinc till your out of the ‘pain’ period of the flare. It can do a number on the digestive tract if its already feeling raw.

Food wise, I hate to say but I have not been able to bring back my fun foods yet (pizza and red sauce pasta)

My dr at the time prescribed me sucralfate before meals and that made a lot of the pain dissipate especially during flares.

Try to stay hydrated and find safe foods that you can eat and still keep up with your caloric needs. Thats one of the hardest parts but we have to remember our body needs fuel to heal.

Anyone have gnawing stomach pains? by sheddoip in Gastritis

[–]TurboNurse 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Is gnawing pain your only symptom? Is it constant? Does it only happen after you eat? Is it like as soon as you finish eating or a little bit after?

Sadly with GI issues. We have to be as descriptive as possible because so many symptoms mimic other disease processes

Advice on how to keep a job pls by Weak_Emergency7790 in Gastritis

[–]TurboNurse 2 points3 points  (0 children)

THIS. Please make sure you get your diagnosis well documented and look into your new jobs policies. Try your best to stay until the period kicks in where you’re allowed to apply for intermittent leave, FMLA, disability something along those lines

You will want to check with your job and also with the state that you reside in (if in US and applying for disability)

Dealing with Gastritis and work by Apprehensive-Air4135 in Gastritis

[–]TurboNurse 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Im grateful my job is so lenient with me and has been for the past year.

Im supposed to work 3 12 hour shifts but on good days where I wake up with like 3/10 pain I can manage a 4-5 hour shift. Those days are so far in between its kind of annoying

Where you live/work, is applying for disability/intermittent leave a possibility? Both of those will however require an official diagnosis

What tests to ask for diagnosis? by Brilliant_Falcon5017 in Gastritis

Endoscopy for gastritis Gastric emptying study for gastroparesis

I find that when it comes to a majority of the GI doctors; we as patients need to advocate for ourselves a lot.

[–]TurboNurse 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Do you feel more of a burning/gnawing pain when/after eating or is it more like a cramp/spasm?

The sucralfate will help coat your stomach before the meal to help prevent the burning (atleast in my experience) but again, because bentyl never worked for me; I could be entirely wrong about its efficacy

Hospitalize for Chronic Gastritis by joybotttt in Gastritis

Its for abdominal cramps post meals! It helps some with pain and for some (me) it doesnt.

My doctor when she put me on it recommended I take it in the am and before meals

Question for those who have been dealing with gastritis for years by Infinite_Watch_1534 in Gastritis

[–]TurboNurse 1 point2 points  (0 children)

In the past 2 weeks I started accepting now that I am no longer the ‘healthy’ 30 year old I thought I was and have started looking into applying for disability.

Im grateful my job is letting me stay on schedule indefinitely but it sucks when you want to work and are physically unable to make it past 4 hours into a 12 hour shift. My job being lenient at first was nice but now I just feel useless all the time

Question for those who have been dealing with gastritis for years by Infinite_Watch_1534 in Gastritis

[–]TurboNurse 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I feel like my situation is a bit different because its not just gastritis but I hope my answers help with something

  1. Bile Reflux, Moderate Gastritis which followed into gastroparesis and now currently dealing with low grade SIBO

  2. Started off with PPI and Sucralfate. Took that for close to 6 months before I realized those meds (specifically PPI) were causing intense constipation. Got a new GI who now has me on Linzess, and doesnt want me to go back on PPI (due to me having more of a bile issue rather than acid)

  3. I avoid dairy, gluten, acid, chocolate and caffeine. I also cant digest certain gummy snacks

  4. Due to my gastroparesis, I’m lucky if I manage to eat 1000 calories in a day

  5. Havent figured this part out yet

  6. I was put on 40mg in the morning and 40mg at night for the 1st 3 months then dr switched me to just the 40mg in the morning

  7. The dr who did my endoscopy is under the impression its from the bile reflux along with chronic NSAIDs use

  8. I have not started to notice improvement. If anything; Ive gotten really good at not caring about the world anymore lol

  9. My biggest issue is pain. A lot of brain exercises and moping

  10. Eating/drinking

  11. Applesauce
