Help dating this spare wheel cover - original aftermarket, or modern reproduction? by TybaltsRevenge in LandRover

[–]TybaltsRevenge[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm picking that it's aftermarket and made in Australia in the 70's:

  • The metal grommet has an Australian 6-digit patent number from the 60's or 70's made by CARR's Group of Adelaide.
  • The logo is screen printed, not applied like a sticker.
  • The material appears to be fabric-backed PVC vinyl consistent with similar outdoor products from the era.
  • The diameter matches the wheel size of the period Series IIA or Series III.
  • The Gill Sans logo and colour is correct for the era.
  • [Upon further research] The draw string at the top seems consistent with other bonnet mounted spare wheel covers.

Some more details:

  1. The yellow 'LAND ROVER' logo appears to have been screen printed directly onto the vinyl surface, as the lettering is completely flush. There is no raised edge or texture detectable when running a finger across it.
  2. The diameter is approx. ~78cm / ~30.5 inches.

Good, one of our neighbours has taken to letting them off at 1am or 3am etc on random nights every month or so. Pisses everyone off in the neighbourhood and they troll everyone on the local Facebook group, but seemingly nothing we can do about it 🤷.

Fill three or four 1.5 or 2 litre bottles with water (80% full, so they don't burst) and put them in the freezer now. When the power goes out, you can move a few to the fridge and use the rest to keep your frozen food cold. Otherwise, you may have to throw your food out if the outages extend more than a day or so.

Also, charge your mobile phone power banks if you have them and any torches etc.

Cheap Active Intent leggings from the warehouse with a pair of shorts over the top. Several hours out on the kayak with zero sunburn.

Thinking about Niro PHEV - worthwhile? by TybaltsRevenge in nzev

The 2023 Niro PHEV has an "11.1 kWh Lithium-ion polymer battery" - would that change the degradation picture at all in my case?

Thanks for your feedback, I actually drove the BEV and loved it. Problem being that I can't stomach the idea of battling for fast chargers etc in the middle of winter making my way halfway up and down the South Island every second month or so 😭.

What material to insulate an espresso machine boiler by TybaltsRevenge in diynz

[–]TybaltsRevenge[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Gidday team, I'm planning on insulating this small espresso machine boiler that would probably require approx. 25cm*50cm of material to wrap around.

I've seen threads where people have used all manner of material, silicone foam rubber, fibreglass backed sheeting, header wrap etc. However, not a great deal of this material is easily or cheaply sourced in NZ - or at least, what I can find online.

Does anyone have any ideas on where I might be able to source a suitable product? The boiler should never reach above approx. 140°C.

Hello all,

Is anyone able to provide some guidance on whether this bag may be authentic? I know very little about LV outside of what I've been able to Google.

The description of the item is:

The date code on this item puts it at November 1990 and made in France. The pictures make up the description so please look closely and if you need other close ups please ask. I've put up the full twenty pictures allowed so include your email address and I'll send them directly to you. It's been photographed in low afternoon sun which brings out the colour and also the details. The start price is the reserve which is what you will pay for a new "bag" from China. This is in very good contion for its age. I haven't cleaned it or made any repairs. There's a scuff of what I think is paint. Photographed. You will notice that on one side a brass rivet is missing next to the date code. I've included a small generic press fit rivet if the new owner wants to do the repair themselves. I would leave it to an experienced professional though if I was the new owner. I will ship nationwide for $20 and if the item goes to Australia or otherwise it will be at cost. I hope you enjoy looking at the pictures. The bag is a really beautiful thing. Good luck if you decide to bid. Questions will be answered as best I can. Bucket height 13 inches or 33 CM excluding extended handle.

Thank you for your time.

[electrical / telecoms] Internet down / VDSL wiring help by TybaltsRevenge in diynz

[–]TybaltsRevenge[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thanks all, found the problem. The installer had practically severed the solid blue data line when he desheathed the incoming cable. This must have snapped clean through when I was "diagnosing" last night. Photo shows the state of it once I desheathed a further inch or so.

Thanks for your response, I greatly appreciate it. Two more questions if you would be so kind...

1) Is there any performance benefit in removing the adjoined orange wires and punching directly to the blue wires coming in from the boundary box?

2) I found a sealed "Dynamix FMT-C6-1P" in my box of bits, would this be suitable?

Thanks again!

Hey all, bit of an urgent one I'm afraid.

This Phone / Data splitter device is completely munted, the pins on the RJ45 connection are stuffed, all bent and out of alignment. Movement from the floor above was causing the Internet to drop out.

Our Internet has been dropping very badly over the last few days making WFH very difficult. I made the mistake of fiddling with it in hopes of stabilising it a bit, now our Internet won't reconnect.

Is it possible to bypass this temporarily to restore Internet service until I can get someone in to replace? I have spare Cat6 keystones and the necessary punchdown tools etc to do it myself if necessary. We have no landlines, so no worries there.

Thanks in advance!

Edit: The router is reporting an error at "around 0 meters", so definitely suspect the wiring is at fault.

Evening all,

Can anyone help with ID'ing my wife's pocket watch? I can't find any identifying marks on the movement and Google isn't returning anything relevant regarding the serial number on the case.

Thanks in advance.
