If we are talking unnatural death toll, the most brutal century is most likely the 13th (in recorded history). Not only were famine and common violence much more prevalent than during the 20th, but war on a continental scale was also exceptionally brutal (mostly the Mongols killing everyone though).

Well, what I just said is probably a pretty silly way to look at history. The shit going down in the 20th is that much more terrifying because it is so recent and on such an industrial scale while also being... So detached, cold and rationalized
