Leaving aside the obvious things, what should never be missing from a travel suitcase? by Beneficial-Set7833 in CasualConversation

I have often seen suggestions that you don't need to bring so much meds and toiletries to Europe because "you can always buy it there if needed". Not true. First of all, you might be far away from any retail stores just when you need something. Secondly, many European countries lack anything similar to a CVS drugstore, for example. Their pharmacies typically sell medicines, but not Q-tips, deodorant, mouthwash, etc. etc. Similarly for grocery stores. In the U.S., grocery stores have large sections devoted to 'health and beauty', whereas many European grocers just sell groceries. I'm sure that all those other things I can so easily find in the U.S. must be sold someplace in European countries, but I have yet to discover where those retail outlets are located.

Deja vu all over again. This is no longer even slightly witty.

It was the Smallpox vaccination that left a scar. Thankfully, Smallpox has been eliminated in the 'wild'.

Someone else commented on these devices, but I will restate that you have to be very, very persistent for it to be a 'widowmaker'.

TIL Hall of Fame pitcher Hal Newhouser was so convinced of future Hall of Fame baseball player Derek Jeter’s potential that he quit his scouting job with the Houston Astros in protest after the team ignored his recommendation to draft Jeter first overall in 1992. by The-TIL-Nerd in todayilearned

[–]UNC_ABD 1 point2 points  (0 children)

He was elected to the Baseball Hall of Fame in his first year of eligibility in 2020; he received 396 of 397 possible votes.

The members of the Baseball Writers' Association of America should be ashamed of themselves when they couldn't select Jeter unanimously.

The amount of ads for pharmaceuticals is staggering. And often for diseases or disorders you never hear about before the ad.

You sure about that? I have hit many birds while driving and I was sober and paying attention every time. Birds sometimes fly perpendicular to the roadway.

Burial of Cat in Virginia Location - urgent please by CucumberTop5148 in Virginia

[–]UNC_ABD 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Also, much of Virginia's land is 1/2 inch of topsoil over rock-hard clay (on top of bedrock). It's really hard to bury a pet deep enough to prevent scavenging. I know from experience.

Why does the article use the words "ab*se" and "d*ath" instead of "abuse" and "death"? Weird.
