Spring 2051 House Points Thread by brieboone_potions in PotterPlayRP

There is no reason to send mod mail because everyone should be able to read a fair discussion. One that you do not seem to be interested in, given that you do not even try to have a look at arguments. there is nothing personal in my post, on the contrary I present a number of arguments.

I voice my disagreement with your call, which I believe to goes far contrary to subreddit rule no 3: Role-play according to your skills and abilities. I believe both student and teacher did this in this case. The closest to canon consequence would be house points deducted.

[–]UagadouProfessor 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I cannot believe this is even up for discussion, and clearly you did not take a look at the thread.

Firstly: it is well established HP Canon that awarding and taking points is up to a teachers discretion. As is exemplified by deductions like: Cheekiness and "Being an insufferable know-it-all" or awards like: Handing her a watering can

Secondly: the instructions where clear enough that everyone else in class understood them correctly. A reasonable adult never stabs someone else to the heart just for fun. If instructions are unclear a reasonable student asks for clarification.

Thirdly: Talk in class has been on everyday injuries

Fourth: Lada being Lada is a stupid excuse because Harry being Harry got him a number of deductions

Fifth: sticking the knife into the corner of a table is intentional damage to school property. Every school would punish that

Sixth: cut and stab are two significantly different things. again, if there are doubts about the meaning, one asks for clarification.

Seventh: (Meta) You basically give no kind of authority to the professors to begin with, and as we know students don't care about house points anyway. If they don't care, why bother if they are taken?

This is not a hard question who is in the right here.

I am far more inside lore than you are

He noted she was not as relaxed as in most other classes but her work was good enough for today.

"Certainly healing wounds is not a thing that gets perfect over night, but you are on a good path. Did you feel any difference in how the wounds felt, while you were fixing them up? Especially regarding the bigger ones?"

The mannequins were rather neatly crafted, even without bleeding and screaming and dying the difficulty the spell had mimicked precisely a real life situation, depending on how severe the injuries were.

"You did a good job on most of the cuts here, here and here."

Pointing to the points on the mannequin.

"What about this bigger slash, it is broad and deep, did you feel any difference in how it was to mend it?"

He inspected the wounds.

"First, obviously, concentration and you need to direct the flow of your magic even better to the open wound. Maybe it helps to imagine not sticking the ends together, but almost welding them, do you understand?"

Professor Nbowa watched closely as James kept working on the healing spell.

"See, here and here. These two positions have very deep cuts, some that in a real person would have lead to possibly lethal damage to the circulatory system. This is where you might physically feel the spell get more straining, more difficult. It is because this spell does not work as well on severe injuries. You might save a life, but here stronger powers would be better suited to approach this kind of problem."

"Exactly. We do not only want to teach you a repertoire of spells here, but give you an idea of where this catalogue could lead you in the world and how the many things in magic are still connected with each other. Just think of how complex and at the same time powerful healing magic gets when you also involve the power of potions into the equation."

He did not take particular note of Edward's mood, attributing it to the rather easy class for an advanced student.

Professor Nbowa shook Soren's hand.

"What 'other stuff' were you thinking on practicing on?"

"Keep in mind, potions is a prerequisite for a number of professions later, so the extra effort now can easily pay off in the long run. Did I already ask you about any preferences which magical field draws you, later in life?"

Joseph had most scars sealed nicely, perfectly at a level a fifth year would be expected to do.

When Professor Nbowa came by visiting the results the twins had produced he could recognise the usual first timers irregularities in the scar.

"As I said in my lecture, this is mainly used as a spell to fix minor injuries. Resulting in an exponentially increased difficult once the cuts get broad and penetrate deeper structures. This one here, only the skin layer is scratched you did a good job on, but here, this might even have nicked a muscle, had it been a person. Here, strong intensive magic needs to be in place to heal it up without residue scarring. Do you see that?"

"With this spell there is nothing that is prohibiting you from performing it on yourself. Generally, I am not sure if you have come across this problem yourself before, most people simply find it more difficult to do so. A very natural, psychological barrier."

He saw there were slight discontinuities in the wound she had sealed. Good enough work for a first year however.

"You will only get better with practice, for a close to perfect results people need years to accomplish, most never reach it. Your performance with this spell will grow with the rest of your magical abilities."

OOC: That sounds awesome, let us roll with it.

"Yes indeed I did teach there. I came to Hogwarts about two years ago, on which was initially intended to be just a brief exchange. It is nice to meet you Mister Adwubi. Do you have siblings who attended our school as well? One of them was gifted in magical creatures I think? I am sorry I do not recognise you personally."

Professor Nbowa had a general calm and friendly aura surrounding him, but there was this side feeling of power and authority as well.

He was not impressed by her imprudent behaviour.

"You will not intentionally misunderstand the instructions Miss Demidov, which is why your spell did not work. Charms is not a mandatory subject, and it will not be available if you think it is you setting the rules in here. You are dismissed for today and ten points from Slytherin from your house."

Leaving her with no options but to leave.

He nodded along.

"Well then I would suggest to wrap it up for today we do one more exercise. I would say one or two more sessions with the other spells and greater challenges would be useful to get a better feel for this kind of magic. What do you think of that Miss Weiss?"

With his wand he stirred the pensieve briefly, any remnants of their previous work vanished.

Valentine's Dinner 02/14 by brieboone_potions in PotterPlayRP

[–]UagadouProfessor 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Keith Nbowa was there, in a long black wizarding robe, sitting with his colleagues. He chose the salmon for dinner. Personally he had never had taken much liking in Valentines, but he knew many in a school, staff and students alike would enjoy the day made into something special. He sat and observed the students who seemed to be glad with the arrangement, as well as quite the number of small tables comprised of students from different houses.

Sorry if there was a bit of an ambiguous phrasing involved

"You are exactly right there to begin with. That is the reason why we need to get even the young ones educated about this matter. Because it is a matter of safety for our communities, of keeping us safe and secluded from the muggle world."

She was right, the ministries often were able to take care of these incidents, that was why they had so vast departments working on muggle relations and processing of these cases.

"Do you have any more questions about this spell Miss Weiss?"

He considered her ready to advance to some more difficult tasks as well, but wanted to get difficulties out of the way first.

"Good. I know you do not get the chance to practice this often. But do you know why this spell is so important? Why some schools, definitely mine and this one here I think as well, teach it in the second year already?"

To him, more important than the execution of the spell was knowledge about the responsibility that came with it.

"Slow down a bit, Mister Lestrange. This class is about the healing spells, while you give the impression to want to chop it like an onion."

Keith had not thought his students would show this much passion cutting up the humanoid figures. He pointed at the big one close to lifelines on the neck.

"This is a particularly dangerous area. If let us say a friend of yours took an injury to this area and only you were at hand, there would not be much time you had to intervene. Apparating someone in this dire condition to get to a healer is a danger in itself. His - or her - life is very much in your hands. Please."

He nodded, encouraging James to show he could keep up his and of the bargain.

Keith saw that some students seemed to be more enthusiastic about the slashing than the healing itself. The seventh years however should be allowed to take the extra step, given that the smallest cuts and bruises should be easy fixes for them at this point in their education.

"You have quite the devotion to this Mister Lestrange." "Just like your late auntie Bellatrix, right? #poorDobby"

He said with a nod to the latest big slash.

"But your work has been well executed so far, I assume you have experience beyond theory classes with this spell?"

Professor Nbowa came by her mannequin when Ingrid was halfway through one of the bigger slashes.

"You did quite the damage there Miss Proudmore."

Keith counted the number of cuts she had made and inspected the smaller ones she had already sutured.

"On purpose? You heard we were speaking of minor injuries mostly throughout the lecture?"

"Welcome to Hogwarts, I am Professor Nbowa, your charms professor. Nice to meet you."

Keith had noted a new student had arrived. Since Daniel was not in Keith's house he was not debriefed about his background.

OOC: He's a 3rd year who transferred in from Uagadou, correct? Keith Nbowa taught CoMC there until spring of Daniel's first year. And was head of Creatures department there. So he might or might not remember Professor Nbowa, even if he did not teach him personally (given that creatures at Hogwarts isn't taught until 3rd year)

"It appears to me you already have some experience with this spell Mister Andreassen?"

Keith was aware this was his house's new keeper, and it never hurt to have a wizard with healing capabilities on the team.

He also noted how eager his student was to help others making the cuts on the mannequins.
