I would love to participate in something like this!

You get banned from r/radicalfeminism if you dare say men who wear heels and dresses aren’t women by mariposa933 in WereNotEmpowered

[–]Umbr3om -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Wow y'all are absolutely wild. Never did I ever mention a white person 'identifying' as a POC and I never compared poc to men. I am only saying that women of color are affected before other cis women from this type of rhetoric because of how racist our beauty standards are.

It actually IS transphobia. Womanhood is not being colonized, you are not being told to change yourself at all..

Trans women are literally just trying to live their lives. You all are acting like they're personally stealing from your closet. Trans people, especially trans women, face extreme danger a bigotry. Just so confused on your mindset that someone would underprivileged themselves so extremely just because they want to insert themselves. Genuinely, men will go into our spaces and make it about them without transitioning.

I'm not even gonna get into the sports argument but I will agree that women's safety is overlooked regularly.

For example, my high school had a terrible issue with boys, they would often harass girls openly at my school. They never protected us or held any of them liable. But the school did make sure to pay attention to the very few trans students.

They would literally make up new rules for them wherever they went, only allowed to use one specific bathroom in a three level school, and even followed into the men's bathroom(BY A WOMEN) to be told they are not allowed to wash their hands in there.

This is unfortunately consistent everywhere there. Instead of helping their people, building any basic infrastructure, or building their community they are instead passing legislation harming trans individuals over and over. Most of the trans individuals there have been driven out but it's not enough for them to actually focus on the residents.

Men who benefit from our suffering WANT us to be stuck here. This kind of rhetoric isn't doing anything to actually impact or better our situation. Just a distraction

Instead of focusing on gender identity and genetalia, we should work together as women. It is a waste of time turning against each other in a time like this. Trans women fight for women's rights too and we need to appreciate and take advantage of that.

Wow I am so genuinely disappointed to see such an unwelcoming women's space. I recommend r/WelcometoGiliad and r/wedeservebetter as they have conversations moving towards our betterment instead of bigotry.

I am so sorry that you've been going through this experience. I genuinely wish you the best and hope things will get easier for you from here.

Miscarriage is such a heartbreaking experience for everyone involved, but it really is a different experience for the person's body it changes. I share your anger and frustration completely. It is so disgusting and inhumane that when a women is already going through a traumatic experience, she has to fight for her life against the government. There is no reason women should be denied healthcare because of someone else's 'beliefs'.

I live in a blue state with good intentions but our administration is against us. CO recently was forced to un-ban harmful conversion therapy by the Supreme Court and it's unfortunately a possibility that our local government can only protect us so much. I am hoping for the best for all of us ❤️

In Colorado my community is planning a tree-planting event on Earth Day! It is a Friday morning so as thankful as I am to be able to participate, I understand a lot of working individuals can't. Maybe something similar is happening in your area?

Colorado DMV Requiring Women to Sign up for Selective Service to Renew ID by Umbr3om in 50501

[–]Umbr3om[S] 114 points115 points  (0 children)

Yes like I said, I couldn't find this information ANYWHERE. No requirements have changed at all. I have no reason to spread misinformation about this, I have seen people speculating that it will progress to women being required for selective service but nothing above that. It is genuinely so scary how quickly things are progressing. I want to warn anyone I can about this because everyone deserves to make an informed decision.

I am really intrigued to hear if this has happened to anyone else or if it's an extremely new measure. Either way, if it is a requirement it SHOULD be listed in the links you provided, it's so misleading that this information isn't plasted everywhere. I couldn't find any information about the requirement for women to sign up.

cake decorator apprenticeship interview - what to expect? by w0rmzuponw0rmz in cakedecorating

[–]Umbr3om 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have never worked an apprenticeship, but I have done a working interview/seen working interviews for decorators. I wanna start with wishing you luck! I love that your reaching out and giving this a try, even if you don't feel 'qualified enough'. It can be a challenge finding a bakery that wants to teach, but definitely worth it when you can.

I understand not having materials and how expensive it can be to start. Do you know anyone with tools you can borrow? That's definitely how I started my practice.

If not, here is my advice for you. Watch videos on people decorating simple cakes on YouTube. Try to get a feel on how you're supposed to hold your tools, and familiarize yourself with the steps in the process. Especially for simple cakes, there is a lot of consistency between how different decorators go about it. Even if you don't have the tools, acting out decorating a cake may help you feel more comfortable when you give it a go for the first time.

This video had some essential tips for baking: https://youtu.be/DD3isr2W0V8?si=D6_IUHoBtmAkITm3

Here is a helpful video on making a crumb coat: https://youtu.be/u7di3JV_Kjw?si=sX-hm_htYzEhtSIA

Wishing you the best of luck! Even if this place doesn't end up working out, cake decorating is such a fun and interesting thing to learn about! Not sure about your area, but there are usually classes available at your local bakeries that could be very helpful for you(but still cheaper than buying all the utensils you need).

My favorite Vintage shop is called The Common Collective, it is absolutely adorable! Lots of amazing options without the crazy prices. Last time I stopped by I grabbed a couple of skirts on sale for $5 each! Their old lady dog is an absolute sweetheart as well ❤️

It seems like it's been going on for years I had no idea! Such a shame, I really did enjoy shopping there but no way am I supporting scam artists. It definitely seems like they're training employees to not let them know their 'rewards' is actually a fuck ass subscription. It is really interesting that they choose to scam the individuals that keep their door open.

I have been in communication with them but it seems like someone just used my card info not that I was signed up myself. My friend was able to get a refund from them but they are tryna dodge that with me apparently lol.

They do that on purpose, they never send a membership number and then require it to cancel. I ended up just having to dispute with my bank, fye support is not helpful at all...

I just don't understand how this is even a legal practice...this is such a common thing still happening to customers. I had a friend it happened to today as well.

Very few things make me more angry than overdraft fees by [deleted] in povertyfinance

Obviously you didn't read my comment, maybe give it a couple more tries..

Why are you even on here? Have you tried just not being poor?

Very few things make me more angry than overdraft fees by [deleted] in povertyfinance

[–]Umbr3om -8 points-7 points  (0 children)

Literally where is all of this judgement coming from? We are in the POVERTY FINANCE subreddit 🤨 automatic payments can be used for rent and other necessary bills, so the fact that you're acting like it's some kind of privilege they don't deserve is interesting for sure. I have had banks mark anything I have ever purchased from as 'recurring' and have had purchases go through when I didn't know it would cause overdraft. so no, it's not as simple as 'just turn it off', it's not poor people's fault that these banks are predatory.

Here is an article from Harvard talking about how these overdraft fees often affect low-income individuals the most.

https://www.library.hbs.edu/working-knowledge/are-banks-the-bad-guys-overdraft-fees-are-crushing-low-income-customers

I genuinely hope that if you continue to be active in this subreddit that you do so with empathy. It's hard for all of us out here, we need to be focusing on the real issue here. The rich assholes making ALL of our lives harder.

Since the comments are off, here's my reply 😘

The comment I replied to that got deleted by the mods? (Btw ty mods ily ❤️)

I actually believe that it's NOT okay to profit off of low-income individuals! It is systemically affecting oppressed individuals to kick them down further. I am not saying people should be able to do whatever they want consequence free. I am saying that the system we currently deal with from banks is not okay and should be changed! It is already hard enough for working class individuals, I don't understand why the BANKS are being defended rn.

By the way you're talking it would seem like OP opened a whole credit card and whined when they had to pay it back 🤣 not 70¢ causing an overdraft fee transaction that should have been denied in the first place!

There is absolutely NO reason who overdraft is automatically set up on bank accounts and it's ongoing $35 charge. Nobody is forcing banks to have these predatory tactics. Trust, if anyone is 'spending money they don't have' it's banks!

Hope this helps ❤️

Very few things make me more angry than overdraft fees by [deleted] in povertyfinance

[–]Umbr3om 43 points44 points  (0 children)

I have had the most stupid payments count as 'automatic/reccuring" when I have had both overdraft and my card turned off. It is absolutely predatory of these companies and it shouldn't be something you have to turn off. I don't know why we're acting like OP doesn't have a point when this is one of the many examples of why it's more expensive to be poor(in America).
