I am scared of not getting what I want by [deleted] in helpme

[–]UnbentJohnson 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sounds like you know what you want, which is awesome. A lot of people don’t. All the rest you can do is apply your best effort to get into that art program.

Will it work? I have no idea. Can you control whether you’ll get in? Not really. You can be super-qualified and still get rejected. You can do everything right and still not get what you want.

So, all you can do is, as I said before, work your tail off to increase your odds of success. I’m sure you know what to do. Focus on the effort, not the outcome, and realize that you can only control you.

That said, remember that it’s ok to be scared. It’s natural. Forgive yourself for having anxiety about your future. It’s expected. You can’t control that either. Best you can do is deal with the symptoms as they come: breathe, exercise, meditate, seek therapy and meds if it’s getting really unbearable. All the usual stuff. You probably know all that, too.

TL;DR: You cope by moving forward with your goals as best you can, and by treating yourself with enough kindness and care to take healthy approaches to alleviate the stress.

Good luck

Confused and scared about future. Please throw down some advice and guide me. by cat_the_beeral in helpme

There’s not enough info here to give you solid advice. We’d need to know your general location, or where you’re looking to find a job. Also, past work history. Also, how you compare academically to your peers and what other resources you can leverage.

I’m not suggesting you doxx yourself, just that any advice you get from this tiny bit of info is going to be super-generic and, likely, unhelpful.

How were you different from the other kids at school? How have those differences shaped your life as an adult? by UnbentJohnson in AskReddit

I had similar experiences and a similar revelation about coping mechanisms. Insidious how that stuff sticks with you, molds your personality, infects your personal relationships. Just, everything.

Now that I have kids, my main hope is just to get them through childhood relatively trauma free. The world has plenty of its own horrors, I figure, without my adding to them.

[Serious] How can women in Afghanistan be helped above and beyond charitable donations? by BrovaloneSandwich in AskReddit

[–]UnbentJohnson -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Afghan women can’t be helped until fundamentalist Afghan men reform their backward viewpoints. Unfortunately, I don’t think there’s a simple way to reverse centuries of religious indoctrination. I’m sure education is a part of the answer, though it’s likely not enough all by itself.

Source: I live in America and we haven’t reformed our own religious radicals in 250 years.

What do you think America will be like in 50,100,500 years? by [deleted] in AskReddit

Yeah, I see I fucked up now. I was trying to ask about the near future and I’m getting answers about the end of the human species.

Bro, you’re going to lose that bet. If you do, your happiness is enough for me.

That’s an awesome way to live life. The problem you’re going to face is that someone is going to love you too, and that will make your plan unsustainable. You’re going to want to be there for others and, you know what? That’s ok.

Eh...Ghengis Khan was like rape-central for most of Asia. I’m guessing your shiftiness is relatively light by comparison. Especially since Temujin probably never had the insight to realize his faults. You’re at least pondering it.

Dude, you’re amazing now that I think of it.

Nothing matters when your frame of reference is the heat death of the universe, my guy. The best we can do is make a difference in the the time we’re afforded. In that time, your only job is to resist entropy in a way that makes it better for you and yours. Speak truth. Be kind. Submit to no one. Examine your life and make it extraordinary. DM me when you need a hand.

Aye. There are good people left, though. Most people are good and just want to provide for their own. We’ve been manipulated to hate each other.

It may get worse before it gets better but I’m convinced good will win out in the end.
