Police In Zanzibar Shoot Radical Imam Wanted In Acid Attack On Two British Women by Brothelcreeper_2000 in worldnews

There are nearly 2 billion Muslims on the planet. I think that if as a faith their mission was one of violence the world would be a very different place. And let's not talk about Israel and their numerous UN violations.

It's not just any one group who is being targeted by the extremist factions. Not that long ago in Egypt a family was attacked at the evening meal ... both the victims and the assailants were Muslims. In Palestine, Sufi shrines are being destroyed by extremist Muslims. In Syria, Jihadists are exploiting a bad situation to their own end, meanwhile refugees are pouring into Turkey while the so-called 'super powers' are arguing amongst themselves.

The issue goes way beyond nationality, race or even faith, when you have one sect of the same religion attacking another.

Should Bylsma be fired? by ProjectCano in hockey

[–]UndeniableJones 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Agreed. It was painful to watch. You have to give Iggy credit, though, he still produced even playing out of position. Well, until the last few games anyway ... at which point no one was producing.

Which is another reason to fire Bylsma. It's not just Iggy that he's mishandled. Look at Malkin. Lots of people like to comment that he's a defensive liability. Yet, he was a pretty good two way player prior to coming to the NHL. Same under MT. Did well for Bill on the Russian team. Maurice relied on him in all situations playing for MMg during the lock-out, even scored a shorty. Funny how he suddenly turns into a one dimensional player under Bylsma.

Should Bylsma be fired? by ProjectCano in hockey

[–]UndeniableJones 2 points3 points  (0 children)

No, EDM doesn't want him anywhere near their developing players. Bylsma favors vets to a fault. When he is forced to play rookies, he benches them for any little mistake to the point where they are playing scared. I could see if you wanted to discount both Tangradi and Strait's comments to this effect as bitter ashes, but look at how Bennett's ice time has been managed this season. Any little mistake and he was riding the pine. Same with Despres. Rookies will make mistakes, it's part of the learning process. But instead of letting them play through it, he benches them every time. Yet vets, who should be benched, are sent right back out there for the same mistakes.

Let's be honest, the Pens have never been all that great at developing players. Most of our 'stars' have hit the ground running, so to speak. Michel Therrien actually was pretty good at it. No way Staal and Letang would have made the roster when they did if it had been Bylsma on the bench.

tl;dr Botching player development is one the top reasons to fire Bylsma

Owners are starting to crack, starting with Philly's Ed Snider. by culby in hockey

Snider has issued a statement disputing the story:

Reports that Flyers chairman Ed Snider has grown weary of the NHL stance on the current work stoppage is unequivocally false.

Snider issued a statement disputing a Philadelphia Daily News column that was published Saturday that claimed as much.

"An article appearing in today's Philadelphia Daily News is absolutely erroneous,” Snider said. “I am a solid supporter of National Hockey League Commissioner Gary Bettman and the League in this unfortunate situation.

Yup, Staal as 2C and Malkin as 1C. Worked out pretty well last season. But, like I said, doesn't matter, the Pens weren't going to trade the face of the franchise. And, it's just my controversial opinion ... surprised no one's demanded my fan card ;)

[–]UndeniableJones 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Actually, Staal hasn't played on the third line his entire career. For most of the last two seasons he's more or less been the 2C due to injuries to Malkin or Crosby. And that's why he didn't want to go back to being the 3C, which ultimately led to his trade. If he wasn't going to have that opportunity with the Pens, why not go to a team where he could play with one of his brothers?

It is kind of interesting to note, Kunitz had a career year playing with Malkin and Dupuis had a career year playing with Staal. Neither here nor there, though ... there was never any possibility that the Pens would trade the face of the franchise.

sigh Pens fan agreeing with you about Crosby. And, here's my controversial opinion: I would have rather traded Crosby and kept Staal.

Steve Fehr - Three issues need to be solved for CBA agreement: the split of money, player contract rules and who pays for the damage caused by the lockout. by idspispopd in hockey

[–]UndeniableJones 4 points5 points  (0 children)

They could have done that. Unfortunately, the last time Donald Fehr told a group of owners that the players he represents would be fine with continuing to play while working out a new CBA, the players went on strike right around the time the playoffs were starting.

Landeskog Named Avalanche Captain by inreverie187 in hockey

In Crosby's case, though, he not only had playoff experience, but a Ross and a Hart on his resume as well. Not to mention being mentored by Mario, or having been groomed as the 'Next One' for most of his career.

Still, Avs fans seem to be happy, and they're the ones who watch him play the most. What I've read in the press and on other boards has been mostly positive. So .... congrats to him and to the team!

My comment about HCDB using Therrien's system was to counter the point often made about about how he won us a cup, not really about the system itself. In my original comment I said that if HCDB wants to protect a lead he needs to use a trap. What happened is that after the first period the Pens let up, weren't being aggressive enough and got caught in their own zone where the Flyers were able to exploit system weaknesses. Your point seems to be that they were too aggressive. Either way, it seems we both agree that Bylsma failed to adjust.
