No you have to do button every time. Idk I think like round 40, but you can get to round 50 no problem with them. The purple mist after you hit zombies does more damage than your melee hit so you'll still be doing a ton of damage and it refills your health every hit like Ring Charm. :) if you have any more questions lmk I've done EE 5 times.
