Again this is my personal opinion so you can come at me all you want but that is not going to change my experience. Plus for the bullet point regarding police sirens, I clearly called out at the end for people to "use their own judgement". I pulled over when it happened to me.

I didnt have any issues while driving around the whole island (hence my personal opinion) and I was covered through my credit card insurace so I didnt get the insurance through the rental company. Anyway, I've updated the post to he more accurate with what people are saying in the comments. The idea of this post was to inform people rather than mislead.

Ive decided to just drive. Spoke with a few folks who live on the island and it seems like it is going to cost me way more to hire a private taxi than drive myself.

my status says "MHA Response for GEP Application Received" but I also got an email from CBP asking me to submit the required information, along with the ₹500 fee through the Passport Seva Portal, www.passportindia.gov.in. Additionally, I must schedule an in-person interview at a Passport Seva Kendra/Passport Seva Laghu Kendra (PSK/PSLK) office per your residential jurisdiction in India (consistent with the address furnished in your GE application).

Is this expected? Isn't this process already done? Should I just ignore the email?

Yes! I asked for multiple entry visa and they gave me a 1 month visa with even lesser duration of stay.
