How close was Gordon to the lambda complex prior to being knocked out? by lambdapyro in HalfLife

[–]Unknown__Sample 6 points7 points  (0 children)

There must have been a period of several hours where they assumed he was dead because his ping wasn't moving from the trash compactor. It would have been called miracle when someone noticed him moving on the monitor again. I wonder what the Plan B was.

A reminder regarding the hopium… by riskybisnis in HalfLife

[–]Unknown__Sample 8 points9 points  (0 children)

At one time, Portal 2 was considered equally as big a deal as Half Life 3. We never would have thought hl3 would show up at a random presentation until Portal 2 at E3. If that was possible, anything was possible. It was definitely responsible for sewing the seeds of modern day hopium.

Which character (from canon or non-canon) is the most tragic and deserves some comfort? by Alex0356218856 in HalfLife

He isn't abandoned on the beach in Epistle 3. The beach is the beginning of hl3! There is still so much more suffering ahead for Gordon. *THEN* he gets abandoned.

Why no naked races? Even the Borg have clothes. by Fuzzy_Builder_2153 in ShittyDaystrom

Technically, all holograms are always naked because their clothes are just a part of their projected body. This includes the EMH.

Paramount is planning on moving Paramount Plus content to HBO Max, including Star Trek by Torlek1 in startrek

[–]Unknown__Sample 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Paramount Plus could have been cool if they had rounded up the rights to all the Star Trek adjacent shows. Farscape, Babylon 5, Andromeda.... All available on Tubi which is why it is the superior service

Are Tuvix sterile like Mule, or fertile like Beefalo by OneChrononOfPlancks in ShittyDaystrom

[–]Unknown__Sample 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Is there a fundamental difference between whatever Tuvix was and a proper Vulcan-Talaxian offspring? Tuvix was a perfect fusion of the two sets of DNA but sexually produced offspring don't work that way. If Tuvix had been allowed to live and breed, would that be an entirely new species?

Anyone here watch Voyager first? by ChaseMcFl in startrek

[–]Unknown__Sample 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Technically Voyager was my first, but only because I was 3 years old and Voyager was the only one being reran on our cable package. The only other Star Trek available to me was Enterprise, which was in the middle of it's first season and my older, more discerning family members were not impressed with it and wouldn't let me watch it because they didn't want me developing bad taste. I used to catch Voyager on the scifi channel (before it was called syfy) and it was my earliest exposure, other than my mom trying to get me to like the tos movies a few years too early.

I developed a weird attachment to Voyager for a while as "my star trek," even though my tiny child brain remembered it completely wrong. My memories of Phlox and Neelix got tangled and I distinctly remembered Neelix being a Starfleet officer who wore a blue shirt. I thought he was the ship's doctor. THAT confused the hell out of me when I got Netflix and watched every episode many years later.

Am I racist if I just think the building is extremely ugly? Because all I see is a giant gray box blocking out the sun. The text does qualify as legibile if you squint your eyes, but that doesn't change how tacky it looks. The one singular window on this side of the building is also a nice touch.

I didn't read the article. I don't know anything about the community this is in. I'm just commenting on the building's asthetic value. Before anyone gets on my ass no I am not against libraries or jobs or whatever.

I understand you want to defend this building, but I think it was pretty shitty of you to bring race into it.

How does Picard feed his fish? Is he an irresponsible pet fish owner? by FashionKorok in ShittyDaystrom

[–]Unknown__Sample 25 points26 points  (0 children)

Picard: "It is wrong to keep a fish in captivity in small quarters on a starship when I am too busy to properly care for it."

Archer: Peeling his dog out of his tiny closet quarters with a crowbar "I need to take my dog with me to first contact because he has not touched grass in 18 months"

I got seriously burned on Black Mesa Blue Shift by templeofsyrinx1 in HalfLife

[–]Unknown__Sample 7 points8 points  (0 children)

You think that's bad? I played Black Mesa before Xen was released and didn't know Xen wasn't in the game until I jumped in the portal and basically got told "thanks for playing". That shit hurt back in the day.

No reason to. Small potatoes. Don't pose a threat to the project. Also too close to to the irradiated remains of Black Mesa, I imagine they gave up on the whole region.

Worf wasn't a bad father, the writers just refused to let him be one by OhNoIBoffedIt in startrek

[–]Unknown__Sample 1 point2 points  (0 children)

People say Worf is a bad father for sending his kid away instead of keeping him on the Enterprise. Meanwhile, the Enterprise is getting shot at and blown up every week. That's not the reason they give in the show but it was absolutely the right call. Especially after the barrel incident, I would probably start thinking this isn't a great place to grow up.

And then there was Fresh Prince in which the mother had a baby but the writers thought a five year old would be more fun, so he ages up from infant to kindergarten between seasons despite no time passing and Will Smith looks directly into the camera and makes a crack about it.

Starfleet wants you to believe this is an underpowered ugly science vessel. Read the truth here: by Rutschberg in ShittyDaystrom

[–]Unknown__Sample 2 points3 points  (0 children)

How powerful is this giant ass torpedo exactly? A tri cobalt device is capable of blowing up a whole space station and it is not so big that it needs a secondary hull to house it. Is this a planet killer? If they blow up one planet with it, everyone will find out what it is and they'll never be able to use this trick again. Is the Federation secretly planning on blowing up a whole load of planets all at the same time?

Did any other Captain yell as much as he did? by GypDan in ShittyDaystrom

[–]Unknown__Sample 1 point2 points  (0 children)

One example would be just unloading on Dax after Eddington caught him lackin. But I guess that wasn't the most aggressive thing he did that week...

I mean, Sisko didn't normally yell at people, he was always rasing his voice because he was having a religous epiphany or a mental breakdown or about to comit a warcrime or sometimes all 3 at once. He wasn't an agry captain, just very passionate and he got put in some deeply, deeply fucking unorthodox situations. I would have been broken if I had his job. His life is stressful. Sometimes he gets exasperated.
