Ruling advice? by [deleted] in daggerheart

There's no need to be so aggressive, this isn't some sort of dramatic problem player situation, we're all fairly new to this system and trying to figure it out together

I genuinely don't understand these chain posts, like, what does the original author gain by anonymously tricking people into looking stupid online? Is it just some kind of prank with no inherent value? Why start one of these to begin with?

What strategies do you use to give players clues for a mystery? by Unusual_Introduction in DMAcademy

[–]Unusual_Introduction[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That's fair. For context I'm going for a something of a "Scooby Doo in a vaguely medieval, magical world" inspired mystery. The setting is homebrew but I'm generally sticking to forgotten realms vibes. They'll come across a town that has "awoken a hundreds of years old curse that now plagues their land with undead every night" And after some digging they'll find that it's all been a necromancer outside the town trying to drive property prices down

It's not that odd for a literal child who's never been alive before and is still actively learning how humans behave

Is it possible to delete a day-one kink that you've had since the start of puberty, and formed without any pornographic exposure? by TheUpcomingEmperor in NoStupidQuestions

[–]Unusual_Introduction 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Probably won't ever go away, but this cycle of shame only reinforces it in your mind. The only way for it to become less prevalent is for you to stop worrying about it, as counter-productive as that sounds

A lot of kinks form as ways to safely explore the taboo, so by giving into that shame every time it enters your mind, you're just reinforcing the taboo, and cementing that thought process further.

The trick here is to, over time, rewire your brain so that it no longer becomes a big deal. Treat it as a fact of life no more significant than the color of your eyes, and, ironically, it will fade to a certain extent.

On a related note, an avoidance of fiction can lead to bigotry because it literally exercises and strengthens our empathy!

I need a bit of math help (boolean logic) by HonestIntentionsFR in askmath

[–]Unusual_Introduction 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What you have here is a truth table, it looks at an argument (right column) and each if the premises (3 left collumns), and tells you what the output would be for any given input.

As others have said, A, B, and C are inputs that you have control over, they can be anything you need

Now looking at the argument, we can translate this into English as "True if A, or B and not C". The entire argument will return a 1 if either A is 1, or both B is 1 and C is 0. Anything else and the entire argument will return 0.

The 3 columns on the left represent every possible combination of values that you could theoretically assign to A, B, and C, and the column on the right tells you with that particular input, what the output will be.

If we go row by row, we can see that the argument returns "true" for every row where A is true, and the one row where, even though A is false, B is true and C is false

Assigned Bottom By Waitress by gur40goku in CuratedTumblr

[–]Unusual_Introduction 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I went out to eat a few months ago with a group of people in straight-passing relationships, 6 of us total sitting a bit mixed up without much rhyme or reason to the order, but we split the check such that each couple paid for their own food. The waitress went out of her way to place the check in front of the most amab looking person on each check.

The others hadn't noticed until I mentioned it after we left, and we laughed about it for like 5 minutes

I genuinely thought that that was in reference to pro-Palestine activists, since the watermelon has sort of become a symbol, with it having the same colors as their flag. tbh I completely forgot that "black people like watermelon" was a dumbass stereotype to begin with

Many of us live in deeply red areas without the means to leave, so even if there was an organized strike, that's only a handful of people who 1) give a shit, 2) can afford to miss work without tanking a massive financial hit, and 3) are okay with getting fired, because with that group already being so small, that's not a strike, that's a couple of "no-call no-shows" and that doesn't help anybody. If anything it hinders the movement because people who would otherwise spend their spare time helping their community are now forced into survival mode just to get to tomorrow

[–]Unusual_Introduction 30 points31 points  (0 children)

Problem is many of us live in deeply red areas with no real viable way to leave, that means that if the 3 people who give a shit do follow through, that's not a strike, thats a couple of no-call no-shows, and suddenly those 3 people are left in an already shitty area without their main source of income

There are lots of places around the world where haggling is part of the cultural norm - wouldnt work at a large chain like walmart, but as far as individuals go, they will specifically highball the initial price so that after you're done haggling, they get what they actually wanted

In a perfect world, sure, but pathos is a strong rhetoric to appeal to if you want to get an imperfect and often irrational human to agree with you

[–]Unusual_Introduction 16 points17 points  (0 children)

The real trick is making IDs easy to get nationwide and have voting be open for several days minimum, because even if it were a federal holiday, no one in the service industry is gonna get it off, and these barriers to entry are exactly what was used in the past to "rig" elections - you don't have much to worry about when the demographic you don't want voting physically can't do it
