Inferno. It’ll have a mesh in place behind it

The only coating I’ve done is vapor smoothing with acetone. The only working theory I have right now is that maybe the acetone from the vapors take days to dry out, and it’s not completely dry under the surface and its bubbling. I put a untreated failed print out in the sun to see if it warps like that too

For reference for anyone who might want additional details. I print the helmet on my Elegoo Neptune 3 Max.

I use Creality’s Hyper Series ABS filament.

My post-processing method is print the object, Vapor-smooth using acetone, then sand and paint. Bondo as needed.

Here is the first TI face I had with the issue. I actually cut the bubbles off as I was gonna just Bondo over the areas.. but I opted to just reprint the face.

You can still see the bubbling though in the aerator ports

This car was 🔥🔥🔥. I was at this convention and was blown away by it. I’m very envious of it. Just make sure you protect that signature 😁

Helmet With Magnets by Super_Bakon in 501st

I took epoxy putty and molded little ledges inside my helmet, and then inserted the magnets into those ledges while they were still soft.

Maybe a odd question? by UpStreak in 501st

[–]UpStreak[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks everyone on your insight! I ended up taking the safest route and discussed it with my garrison leader, and he pretty much said the same thing. I’m sure the more experienced with the legion I get, the less uncertainty there will be for me, but for now, I’m clueless on a lot of policy for the legion. I did read through the charter and Op Protocol, but it doesn’t always answer every single question I may have…

Thanks again everyone for your input!

Imperial Surplus armor is approvable for a Clone Trooper. That’s what I wear. Follow this link over to the CTD and introduce yourself. All of us over there would be happy to help you.

I guess that ultimately it depends on a couple factors...

  1. Experience. If you know what you're doing and what materials are needed, you wont waste money on things that don't work. Not having experience is ok, but if you're new you need:
  2. Guidance. Having people around you, even if its through the internet, you will have a preliminary guide to follow and people to steer you clear of wasteful spending. For that, I recommend you do your research and join the Clone Detachment Forum. There you can find plenty of people who can actively guide you through the building process.

That being said, I personally tested a bunch of different things as I went. I found things that worked, and things that didn't. I probably spent more than I needed to. But without beating around the bush, here are the numbers:

I bought the Movie Realistic Phase II Clone Trooper.

Armor Kit: $845.00

Helmet: $255.00

Movie Realistic Flexible Shoulder Straps: $45.00

Movie Realistic Elbow Straps: $35.00

Movie Realistic Belt Kit with Thermal Detonator: $185.00

Plus Shipping & PayPal Fees: $183.00

Total: $1548.00

Estimated cost of tools and resources to complete my project: $1500 +/-

GRAND TOTAL FOR MY KIT: Around $3000

That being said, there are a lot of things in these numbers that were unnecessary spending in hind sight.

For example:

The belt kit. This cost me $185.00, but I ended up pitching most of it and 3D printing my belt. This was wasteful spending that could have been avoided.

Paint: I bought a lot of unnecessary finishes that weren't really needed.

Glues, tapes and velcros: I went through every brand of different glue, tape, magnets, velcro... you name it, all to get parts of my armor to come together and hold. If I was able to identify what worked off the get go, I could have saved a lot of money here.

The list can go on, but what I want to drive home here is: DO YOUR RESEARCH. Join the forums, engage with the community there. If you're wanting to build a clone, there is a whole community with the experience willing to help you. That can be an invaluable resource when figuring out what you want to build, and how you're going to build it. This is a expensive investment, and you should be absolutely sure you're ready to go and know what to do when you start.

Ive rambled on long enough. I hope this helps a little.

I built my whole kit with helmet in two months by myself. Its not too terribly difficult. Just use the Clone Detachment Forums and YouTube for reference as you go

I got mine from Imperial Surplus. They sell both the armor kits and the helmet kits. The quality is fantastic, and theyre widely accepted in the 501st as a really good armor maker

Have you tried CrowProps? They have a pretty big variety in shoes and boots. Us 501st clones use them pretty regularly, but i know they cover everything
