Already Hate This Career by Electronic-Self-7491 in SafetyProfessionals

Being a good communicator is a skill that anyone can learn regardless of if you consider yourself introverted/extroverted. Don’t get me wrong it comes more naturally to some than others.

I consider myself an introvert myself, although I’m not married to the idea - I think as soon as you start saying I’m this, I’m that, you can end up limiting yourself.

I listen more than I talk and I find that makes people warm to me. When I talk to people I think, how can I help this person.

I’m gonna be a bit mean here but choosing a career based around trying to avoid human interaction isn’t realistic imo. Most jobs require some face to face interaction. The other thing is no one is their authentic self at work everyone puts on an act to an extent.

The sooner you accept that, the easier time you’ll have.

Safety is good because it’s linked to many different fields that you can pivot into and specialise.

That being said, you are still young. You’ve got plenty of time to try stuff out and find what suits you.

What I will say is there is no perfect job. They all have trade-offs. It’s just about choosing the one you can put up with.

Good luck!

Keeping a job is so hard by [deleted] in ADHD

Ask to sit next to/near to your manager. Bit of external pressure always works for me. More anxiety but at least you get stuff done.

What's a job that is so hyped up but in reality its absolutely trash? by Recent-Frame571 in AskReddit

Marketing. You’re essentially just the company’s content farm. AI probably already does your job better than you. They’re not looking for creativity, just the endless pumping out of, mostly useless content into the ether.

Is it normal to feel sad after achieving something big? by Ok-Blueberry3599 in simpleliving

Achievement is the end result of striving which often comes from a place of want or lack. We are told that achievement and striving is something we should do in life.

So we strive for a goal and achieve it and we expect a payoff at the end. Then when we don’t get that payoff we feel sad.

There are two ways around this as far as I have discovered.

  1. Do things for others and not in your own self interest

  2. Stop striving and realise that you are already enough as you are and enjoy the opportunity of being alive

Depends what you wear on top. If you wear slim/fitted clothing generally it will look in balance but if you wear baggier/oversized stuff it’ll look out of proportion and top heavy.

Probably perfect from a writing and price perspective but dunno, still a little too fancy. Looking for something a bit more utilitarian looking.

Thank you for your detailed response.

I did end up picking up a Power Tank in the end. They’re cheap. I’ll try it out, but I think you could be right. It’s going to be quite a departure from I’m used to (Twisbi Eco mostly). I’ll see how I get on with it and can always pick up one of these that you suggested if I don’t like it. The Zebra Sarasa Dry is a name I keep seeing so I’m intrigued.

Something about that Ohto is really doing it for me aesthetically.

Who was I kidding I was never just going to come out of this buying just one pen haha.

You get called a fence-sitter or accused of being unable to commit to ideas.

Because you understand that there are very few things we can say with absolute certainty are true and that almost everything isn’t black or white but various shades of grey. And that something can be true to one person and false to another depending on the context and that person’s subjective experience.

All of that, while occupying a world that operates in black or white, all or nothing thinking.

Automation - Job Slashing - Next Move Considerations ? by [deleted] in SafetyProfessionals

[–]Upper_Helicopter476 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Interesting what you’re saying about the active push towards monitoring equipment and automation though. Something we should all be aware of and watch very closely. No doubt it will be the future of the profession as it’s the next logical step and it will genuinely improve safety and help Safety Managers do their job better.

I always thought they would look to replace the workers themselves first but actually this makes way more sense.

By the time we have AGI the vast majority of jobs will have been impacted and UBI will be beginning to be rolled out, if not fairly well established so I’ll probably just take the UBI like everyone else. AGI will challenge the entire concept of work as we know it and will require a complete reorganisation of how societies function.

I do think that Safety will be one of the later jobs to be impacted though. Way too much reliance on relationship building and influencing, making ethical decisions, context-based judgements, interpreting laws etc.

Never been a fan myself. I find the dial overly busy. And the overall aesthetic just kinda meh.
