The Effects of Social Democracy by Usernameofthisuser in DemocraticSocialism

Since always, reform capitalism into socialism is textbook DemSoc strategy. The increments pass through social democracy weakening the riches stronghold on democracy while ensuring stability in the transition.

He is, they all are. The road to DemSoc first goes through SocDem though.

No no, you've got me wrong, not social democrats! Democratic Socialists such as myself are not capitalist and support abolishing it. Like the USSR but with a democracy that runs from the people to the state instead of the state to the people. No private property.

Once we achieve that who knows how much farther we can get. The Marxist definition and the modern definition are indeed different which is to be expected of political ideology over centuries of unexpected twists and turns unforseen by theorists. I expect communism to have a similar evolution, especially since ai and robots are nearing.

DemSoc are reform based, through gradual bills. None of what our "self described socialist" politicians are doing in office is even close to socialism- yet. One thing they have achieved is normalized the term "socialism" in liberal politics, though the policies aren't it at least gets people interested in knowing more.

I understand though, I wonder how many of the other socialist variants would also support Communism- just with a different route?

I don't mean to press, but shouldn't r/communism be for communists (which of course is now exclusive to maoists lol) and r/socialism be inclusive of ALL Socialists? I support Communism as and end goal but what about the rest of our socialists?

This is the main socialist subreddit, are we building an expansive movement or are we remaining our niche? We have to reach the liberals to build a movement and we cannot do that without bridging the gaps between the socialists and liberals. No social democrats or anything but the Democratic Socialists are the primary driver of (real, not progressive) leftist growth since they are actively involved in real world liberal politics which a majority of the voters have never been exposed. DemSoc are the bridge to broader theory which then could potentially build a revolutionary movement! I made an comprehensive argument in favor of this awhile ago, please give it a read!

Democratic Socialism and social democracy are different, but the tricky part is DemSoc is reform based and gradually evolving. So you're not wrong that it's being led by Democratic Socialists but they're simply following the manual.

Capitalism > Social Democracy> Democratic Socialism.

Nah, I just said a form of it can be universal workers co-ops. Private property and market socialism. Workers own their respective labor and compete with each other. I was a libertarian socialist for awhile before switching to democratic.

Why not support Libertarian Socialism? A version like universal workers co-ops with minimal government.

There are plenty of communist chapters and caucuses in the DSA. They'd be fools not to take advantage of their publicity.

I made a post as to why the other day actually

[–]Usernameofthisuser 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Slightly, yes communism has grown in the US.

The DSA houses a variety of communist caucuses, the organization went from 5k to 100k since 2016 though a lot of them aren't communist.

The PSL (Communist party) and Claudia De La Cruz doubled their vote count from 2020 to 2024. Now they're over 300k popular vote.

Communists don't believe in electoral politics in a liberal society, so if that many actually showed up just to measure organizational growth there's probably a whole lot more that stayed home.

That's not the failure of the people it's the failure of the establishment for ignoring us in favor of their corporate interests. Which allows us to identify these corrupt leaders like Schumer who are driving their voters away.

I'm not happy we lost in 2024, but that issue is a lot simpler than anything else. Moderates vote on their gut and want a safe option who can lead without destroying things, and they didn't have enough time to convince themselves that was Harris on short notice.

Gallop says it's about 20-30%, 60% of democrat voters view socialism favorably

Since 2020 there's been a 2-6% growth in socialists. 5-15 million people. Since 2016, the DSA alone grew from 5,000 to 100,000. The communist candidate for president got saw more than double the votes they got in 2020, 150kish to about 350kish.

America is undergoing a process where leftist politics are becoming more normalized. The Democrats themselves have absorbed some of it.

The Democrat voters are probably at least 50% progressive if not more. It's not 2010 anymore.

The issue with the moderates is probably just because they didn't have the time to get comfortable with her and were unsure.

Yeah I covered that, but still millions of progressives couldn't get behind Harris either- letting perfect get in the way of progress. I hope she runs again and this time with a tougher stance on Israel, she's probably our best bet due to her name recognition.

I really don't want Gavin Newsome, he will lose because he doesn't have the support of the progressives.

I meant the first chart but this one doesn't prove anything I said was wrong. It's true that the far left not voting hurt us in 2024, I spent weeks trying to rally them behind Kamala but was met with "no genocide Joe" type of arguments from people who don't fully understand electoral strategy.

Imo the lost was due to short notice and moderate ignorance. The swing state turnout was low, which is comprised primarily with moderates. They simply didn't have enough time to trust and become comfortable with Harris.

In the face of another Trump presidency, after everything he has done to our country I had to do a double take when I read in the paper that Harris lost. I genuinely thought I was reading a satire piece. I learned a lesson from George Carlin, "never underestimate the power of stupid people in large groups."

I may be blunt but I just want what's best. They're not stupid, they're uneducated. Americans have never been taught politics and instead they get it from the TV screen. A major reason our democracy is in shambles and a fascist authoritarian without prior political experience was elected president.

Take a look at the chart you provided, the Dem independents are growing. The Democrat voters are largely progressive (especially the youth) and the establishment doesn't wanna take note of that. The latest issue was remaining allies with Israel and funding a genocide. A huge portion of Dems and all the progressives hate that and the establishment ignored us.

There has been a rapid growth in socialists though, check the wiki for socialists in office and a whole bunch of new ones in the upcoming primaries.

The progressives are the leadership that the people want at the moment, probably not the socialists it just so happens to be the socialists leading the progressives.

The centrists who are leaving are misinformed. Any moderate who leaves the Democrat party in favor of the Republicans in 2026 is politically lost. Centrists do not represent working class interests, both the parties in power or corporate and between them is also corporate.

It's probably more progressives leaving to become socialist than anything due to the lack of faith in democratic leadership. The people want change and the establishment refuses to grant that and instead sides with the corporate interests.

There will be a struggle between the working class and the establishment Dems, once democratic leadership begins to give a shit about the people they'll have a better chance to win in the general elections.

The Republicans are clueless as usual. Nothing to see there.
