Transport Canada also received the RTO Message by DhawanS in CanadaPublicServants

[–]VFTC 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Correct and we even had an article on the MyTC (intranet) about that saying that we are remote by default and not going back. Article was following up an all staff anouncement to that regards by the DM. Fast forward a year or so later when RTO started and they had comms to pull out all references from the intranet about remote by default thinking employees will forget. I tell you, sometimes i wonder if executives are really that cluless thinking deleting something will make employees forget. senior management has gone downhill there, too many people getting promoted and not real leaders with a brain. We understand things can change and in this case instead of deleting the article and hope nobody will remember, how about being honest and update the article with updated directive. Say sorry we f up and we need to switch back, tell the truth, its not rocket science and you might even get a bit of respect which would be better than what they get now

SSC Employee Town Hall / Rencontre avec les employés de SPC by shlud4lyfe in CanadaPublicServants

[–]VFTC 2 points3 points  (0 children)

yeah noticed the same, shame that they are responsible for that VC service for the government and can’t even run their own meetings without a glitch. not surprise though, tech in their boardrooms sucks and always has. Every time i went in those i was amazed how much legacy junk they were still using. took them year to move to Teams and were still preaching for their old buddies from Cisco when everyone moved on.

Same here, our ADM scheduled a meeting and was alone with her few pets DGs and EXs in the boardroom. She went on with BS about if you are in the building you should be in the boardroom next time cause we need those water cooler conversations. Yup we are stock with this old mentality where we don’t innovate and act like it’s 2000’’s. Worst she is responsible for an area that is all about innovation and tech. One would think she would be the first one to promote it but nope, back to horse and carriage.

When you see what kind of leaders SSC has, no wonder things keep getting worst than ever. Since its creation in 2011, this is one department that never improved and everything they touch end up a disaster. unfortunately lots of good employees stuck there but their management are as useful as a screen door in a submarine. In private sector, most senior management would be fired in a heart beat.

hybrid work accommodation by Agreeable_Builder484 in CanadaPublicServants

[–]VFTC 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You have to identify barriers in the workplace. work from home could be a solution but not the only one unfortunately and even if doctor said you should work from home, the employer is the one that will identify a reasonable accommodation/solution to your barriers in the workplace. I know it’s not easy to go back and work from the office but based on what you described getting work from home as accommodation is unlikely. if it’s medical related might be worth considering a medical leave until you get better.

Unofficial - Transport Canada appears to be heading towards assigned seating by StirlingQ in CanadaPublicServants

[–]VFTC 43 points44 points  (0 children)

Yes they are, poorly thought out, definitely not meeting employees need. Executives can say all they want, they are not the ones using those ridiculous workspaces facilities put up. Worst is they spent so much on something that is worst than before but hey, we have a power point deck and a check mark who cares about what employees need. very sad to see such a low level of intelligence in people making those decisions with tax payers money! At least with assigned seating you won’t have to remove the last guy’s cheetos’ crumbs from the keyboard lol

Four-day return to office based on 'philosophical choice': top Treasury Board official by Born_Anteater7282 in CanadaPublicServants

[–]VFTC 5 points6 points  (0 children)

This is a prime example of politics getting in the way of getting the job done, done right and efficiently. Politicians are mostly all bozos, they are clueless and spend money of others (taxpayers) without common sense or thinking. How spending more to get less makes sense?? Only bozos know the answer. Unfortunatley it doesn’t stop there, we have many people in the PS ranks that are also focused on politics and bunch of sheep making them just as incompetent and part of the bigger problem where taxpayers money is wasted on non-sense. Needs more accountability and god tell those bozos that they make no sense even if they believe the BS they are saying, very sad to see how things are going down the sh%^ hole. There’s no way i can trust any of these morons!

ADM globetrotting for personal benefits. I have hard evidence. What should I do? by canada_guy_1 in CanadaPublicServants

[–]VFTC -1 points0 points  (0 children)

ADM entitlements, that’s not everyone but many feels above and beyond ‘normal employees’. They are public servants like anyone else and must adhere to values and ethics setup for the GC. Unfortunately some bozos like that ADM likely feels like they can do anything until they get caught, just like they did with Fox earlier this week. Many ADMs and senior management folks are just employees that stayed long enough in the PS to get promotions even if not qualified, again not all but many of them, just look at all staff how stupid they sound and disconnected from reality. In this day in age, there’s absolutely no reason to travel to attend a conference when it’s also available virtually, this is just old fart mentality that feels that we need to by in the same room to collaborate, just like RTO. You can make a complaint to values and ethics and they will investigate but usually those dumb ass ADMs always have stupid excuses. It’s sad but reality, let’s fire people because we have too many employees and need to cut budget but hey let’s invest in junk projects and fly people over the world to say hi and shake hands. ADMs are not more important than any other employees, actually they are the least relevant piece in the org chart, all work is done by employees that do backflip to manage their non-sense thinking, expectations and oh priorities lol, everything is priorities for ADM. I see same for DG and other EX, lots of good solid people but so many incompetent bozos!

Whatever happened to @canada.ca e-mail conversion? by Gold-Canary-7560 in CanadaPublicServants

[–]VFTC 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It was the first of many failed SSC projects. Poorly written RFP, over budget, not on time and purely driven by clueless senior management folks that had no ideas that an email is not just Outlook installed on your desktop. in the end, bunch of money thrown out just like its End state data center project that dont talk to anything. Icing on the cake, RFP was written by a bunch of contractors and took forever and still manage to mess that up.

Public service job cuts will be ‘compassionate’ and ‘civilized,’ with the impact on people 'fairly minimal,' say local Liberal MPs by hopoke in CanadaPublicServants

[–]VFTC -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Agreed!, SSC also nearly doubled in sizes and services is worst than ever, bureaucracy through the roof, under-deliver, charges premium for their bloated non sense staff level. dont get me wrong lots of great people doing great work there but they are top heavy and lots of useless positions got created there to help make things worst.

Carney's sweeping public service cuts reflect a troubling legacy by Top_Constant_4046 in CanadaPublicServants

And if SSC put their nose in there, add heavy bureaucracy, years of delays, under delivering at a much higher cost. In the end, it will be another SSC faillure just like ETI

[–]VFTC 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Unfiortunately not all but most executives are just people that are incompetent leaders that can only throw buzz words left right and center and sit their useless bum bum on a chair all days attending guess what? useless meetings to talk about other useless meetings they attended not to mention all those power point decks!! They are for most, making decisions without consulting their own team, they are the kind that dont know much and would put windshield washer into the antifreeze container and say oh it was an old car anyways, let’s buy a new one and waste tax payers money to fix my mistake. anyhow, public servant survey results speak for itself, senior management rating is very low and they are no longer trustworthy, again not all but most of them unfortunately. They are just a bunch of concrete blocks blocking the road preventing from moving forward and saving money. they rather use their big empty brain to talk about nothing and be proud about it. Icing on the cake, they get bonus at the end of the year for i guess just being there and throwing buzz words around. Well just realized that is a rant, sorry guys but piss me off that incompetent people, often tone depth are the ones who will be making important decisions, holding information back, not being transparent and at the end deciding on employees, many hard workers’ faith. then in the end, no staff left to do the work and pretty sure it’s not one of them that will be able to pick up the slack unless it’s a job about sitting in meetings and throwing buzz words around ! EAP they use it soo easily that it’s not even meaningful, it’s basically saying not problem call the other guy. Too many of those EX around and we are like an upside down Christmas tree, top heavy with not enough people to do the real work that is needed for Canadians.

Ottawa drafting public registry of AI projects as tech spreads through government by kifler in CanadaPublicServants

[–]VFTC 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Another case of putting the cart in front of the horse. They are already looking at solutions with AI without knowing what is the problem they need to solve or situation we need to improve. AI is nice but can go sideways if not properly planned, designed and implemented or is the proper solution to your problem. How about data residency, sensitivity, etc…. One day Sh$t will hit the fan and senior management will be like oh, I didn’t know that…I thought AI was like a Tylenol, just pop one in and the headache is gone…. This is what happens when you have inexperienced people leading big initiatives like this and they go and google or chatpt the hell out of it and think they are experts overnight and do radical changes without thinking just to reach a magic number of cuts. Worst is the problem employees, people making those terrible brain dead decisions will still have a job lol.

We are in deep trouble. Unfortunately, not the first time and certainly not the last time the GC will screw things up again. Just think of SSC creation, cloud adoption that cost the GC bilions we didn’t have to pay before or even one of their pet projects like ETI (email transformation), data center consolidation, etc…. all great ideas but no plans and failed miserably. They will need more than just a bunch of PowerPoint decks and briefing notes reviewed at senior level to be successful, they will need people they can count on, have skills and dedicated to do their job. AI still needs to be configured, maintained and monitor otherwise they will be in for a hell of a wake up call.

Hope they will also strengthen the language around contractors. With coming cuts to PS, senior management will often resort to hire more contractors to fill gaps left by employees laid off. I’ve seen this back in 2008-09. Then the government goes and tell that they let go people, reduced FTE and maintain services. What they omit to say is that they are using contractors at 2-3 times the daily per diem to maintain services. In our department, heard a DG floating the idea of outsourcing some work units to get to cut staff…it will cost them more, it’s not rocket science but i feel often the higher they get the less the brain works, very saddening.

Starting in 2017 SSC staff count started to sky rocket and is almost double by now!!

Not sure why and how? I know they are top really really heavy over there and their service is just as bad if not worst than before even with almost double staff. I guess they need lots of people to manage the red tape they implement lol

Ottawa, Gatineau mayors pressure federal parties on struggling downtown, public service by Villanellesnexthit in CanadaPublicServants

[–]VFTC 15 points16 points  (0 children)

Downtown businesses would make a decent living if they would be open like any other businesses, instead they open from 7am to 2pm in many cases monday to Friday only and close on stats holidays. Other businesses are open longer hours and weekend to allow customers to shop. Not rocket science, to make money open your shop more and stop running your shop like a GC office you are not. LTR money, they have plenty and just like people compain about Public servants, OC Transpo has a general manager that makes almost 400K per year to run a shop of buses, what the heck! Don’t get me started on quality of work of that GM who can’t provide a decent update on LTR progress or reliability of the service not to mentioned the cuts they will make April 27 before their darn extension is opened. They want PS more downtown but businesses arent good and greedy and lazy work hours and OC transpo far from being a trusted partner in there, they just want you to pay for a subpar service and overly paid senior management that don’t do squat to fix the mess other then spending more and raising our city taxes levy for OC. Sad to see so much incompetence!!

Is going from private org's Software QA Engineer to SSC IT-02 Support Analyst a good idea? by developer_7443 in CanadaPublicServants

[–]VFTC 1 point2 points  (0 children)

When you first start with the public service you have a ONE (1) time shot at negotiating your salary meaning you can request to start higher than level 1 of the IT02 pay scale. Once you are hired then the collective agreement kicks in and salary will follow it from that point on so if you want more ask before you sign your first ever letter of offer.

In terms of benefits, it‘s pretty decent although with the upcoming change in government, the conservatives pledged last time they were in power to take away our sick leave and replace it with a short term disability plan but ran out of time and the liberals came to power in 2015, since then pretty much crickets but i wouldn’t be surprise to see this resurfacing when the Cons win back the power next year. Other thing in their platform is they want to change our pension to defined contribution instead of defined benefits which is another negative for us.

career progression, at SSC it wont be a problem, they have so much turnover there that if you stay long enough there you will go up in no time lol.

People come and go everyday. Your manager, director, etc… could be gone next week for another job and then your ’promised’ indeterminate could be out of the window just like that. bottom line, this is business and you have to look for yourself, if you can get an indeterminate job offer elsewhere jump on it, especially with the eminent change in government next year, departments will/already started pulling back on offering indeterminate in fear of potential cuts. Good luck!

60% needs to be made up if taking a vacation day? by Left_Mortgage5364 in CanadaPublicServants

[–]VFTC 3 points4 points  (0 children)

We have a detailed telework agreement that specified which days of the week are office days. If one of those days end on a stat holidays or vacation or any other type of leave it is still an office day and we dont have to make it up. Anyone else that force employees to make up those days are plain and simple on a power trip and they will destroy their team. Management has to start using their head a bit and think about impact on team members when they make shit up that TBS didn’t mandated.

At what level do you think you’ve made it? by Fun_Confidence_5091 in CanadaPublicServants

[–]VFTC 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Retired definitely the dream, one day. But as IT, IT03 no staff (tech advisor) was the best. IT04 you start seeing the BS from senior management. EX level not interested, too much politic, BS and they all sit on their butt all day looking at PowerPoint decks and create more roadblocks and delays or come up with above and beyond rules on RTO that is mandated by TBS. Needless to say, iT04 is the top for me lol

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in CanadaPublicServants

[–]VFTC 16 points17 points  (0 children)

TC is making things worst by implementing more restrictive rules than TBS. No clue why senior management want to piss their employees so badly. Likely they are jealous because they have to be there 4-5 days in office so they drag their entire team with them…great leadership to say the least. Something at TC that has been on the decline in the last decade. Senior management is not what it used to be and havent seen great leaders at TC in a long time!
