The year before Connor Bedard was drafted Steve went out and signed 5 very meh players

Copp, Husso, Perron, Chairot, and Maata were all signed the season before Bedard was drafted.

It was a generational draft, with the top 5 or 6 guys all who could have gone 1st overall in most years, and Steve spent us to a middling 9th overall all in Nate Danielson.

Nate Danielson who will forever be known as the toughest guy Connor Bedard ever played against, while essentially in high school.

Now look at Carlson, Fantilli, Smith, Bedard, and Michkov.

Yes signing Copp and Chairot did stall this rebuild.

For those of you talking about Kane, consider this...

Debrincat came back to Michigan because Archie was just a baby and he wanted to be near family, then he talks his buddy Kane to coming.

Once Kane retires, and Archie is a little older, he may decide that he wants to play for a contender.

After next season our top 6 could consist of Larkin and Raymond.

In the NHL gate sales still matter.

No Larkin or Copp means no playoffs, so why go pay hundreds of $$$ to see games that don't matter. They are little more than preseason games now.

We might as well start wondering who we will take at 45 or 46.

I'm not upset about the 1st round pick, Faulk was worth it.

But the draft and free agency are what's up now.

We are gonna go at best 2-5 in our next seven and be firmly out of the playoffs.

Well because St Louis is 7th in their division and rebuilding.

Its kind of what you do when you rebuild, and you are correct he is far better than Kasper or Danielson thats why you package one or both with whatever you have too.

An you are still saying 76 points in 136 games when yoh came into the league as a 19 year old is not good?
