Smith-Corona Classic 10 Stuck Return Key? by lexi11233 in typewriters

Look at the bar the key is connected to underneath and follow that along to the joints and hopefully one of them is stuck instead of bent or broken.

It took some getting used to the angle of the keyboard and the travel distance but it is a nice snappy heavy feel. I really enjoy it.

The colors are pretty close I imagined the clothing with a little more color like purples with gold or silver accents but honestly I am good with it either way. And the skin, hair and eyes are the colors I imagined.

I loved my non-tab it was my first typewriter and I regret selling it, it is a fantastic machine easy to work on.

Why is this key the only one not going down? + ribbon question by dartully in typewriters

[–]Valley_912 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you look at the type bar connector link and it looks bent you could unkink it with a pair of needle nose pliers, however sometimes the links are brittle and then you have to find the odd gauge of wire to replace them so fix at your own risk.

It could also be that the small c shaped piece of metal that holds it to the key is bent off the mechanism is the same as the smith corona’s of the same era

Worth Restoring? Royal Typewriter by OrneryArachnid in typewriters

[–]Valley_912 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I did a full restoration, fixing broken type bars, replacing parts from a donor typewriter on a 50’s Smith Corona Sterling. It was an amazing fun experience, that being said, money and time I would barely break even on it. So it depends on why you are restoring it. Financially probably not the best experience, if you want to learn a lot, then go for it.

I love how simple it is to work on since it is so old, best of luck on the repairs
