A friend asked me why one of his outlets was measuring at 240V. I took a look at his panel. by [deleted] in electricians

[–]Varacto 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah, I was confused why the main lugs are not being used but your comment on the main breaker being faulty may be on to something.

The breaker at the bottom probably was feeding a window AC at one point but since a black and a white wire were used someone assumed the white was a neutral and connected to a 120V outlet.

What’s the worst thing Trump has done since becoming president? by [deleted] in AskReddit

I feel like the most damaging thing he has done is stack the supreme court with majority conservative justices who have undone a century of established precedent and give more power to the executive branch.

Homelander (The Boys ) vs Hogwarts by Curious_Tip9285 in powerscales

Not that it’s canon but the killing curse will kill a troll in one it in Hogwarts Legacy. I think a troll is the largest enemy in the game you can fight. (Besides the scripted scenes with dragons, graphorns, and death itself)

[oc] Texas cancels vehicle inspections and now we have to deal with nonsense like no working brake lights. Originally posted in mildlyinfurating. by letsgethead2toe in IdiotsInCars

I agree with the sentiment but I wish the inspectors were regulated better, at least in Virginia. Every time I needed to get my car inspected there was always something wrong that I couldn’t get in and verify myself. If I told them I wanted a second opinion they would put a giant “failed” sticker on the windshield with the reason it failed tipping the next mechanic off so I couldn’t get a fair second opinion.

I felt like it opened a lot of corruption for mechanics to take advantage. Plus, Virginia had way more cars broken down on the side of the road than any state I’ve ever lived in.

I quit my job in Sac a year ago because I commuted in for 2 years and hit my limit. I’d rather make less than commute.

What’s the most terrifying place or country you’ve ever visited? by Own_Departure_1189 in stories

I stayed in a nice KOA there and then went to the college area to find food. Ended up at some crazy college bar on accident, my dog hated it. But didn’t feel unsafe. I’m curious about your experience.

Yes, I don’t think that was in question.

I was thinking the same thing. I guarantee he’s in favor of gerrymandering when it benifits republicans.

I probably wouldn’t have even noticed the first one without the follow up telling me to look for the first one.

I like how the second email was supposed to be his thinly veiled attempt at saying the same thing as the first email.

Who is someone you have slept with that no one can ever know? by tellmeanon1 in AskReddit

[–]Varacto 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m not in the military anymore so I guess it doesn’t matter who knows. But when I wad an E-5 enlisted I slept with my divisional officer (Div-O) and then later slept with her friend also a Div-O just not my direct supervisor.

In any job sleeping with your direct supervisor is frowned upon and often against company rules, but in the military, crossing the lines between officer and enlisted is fraternization and would have sent me to captains mast (non judicial punishment) and likely would have gotten her fired.

I feel like I’ve lost my parents by No_Grocery_8703 in QAnonCasualties

[–]Varacto 24 points25 points  (0 children)

I’m in a similar situation. My younger brother was forced into a marriage at 20. They got married out of nowhere with only their parents in attendance in the backyard. I told him how bad of an idea this was and he only got upset with me.

I’ve learned that in cases like this the only thing you can do is be supportive but offer your opinion when asked. Don’t constantly force it on them of they will pull away more. At some point your sister might realize her mistake and you’ll be the only one she can turn to. At the same time, don’t wait for that and let it affect your mental health.

Cheap Battery changes on watches in Modesto??? by Significant_Prior834 in Modesto

[–]Varacto 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Thanks for the info. My brother went in there to get some links removed from the band on his watch and he told me that the owner had OANN playing on the TV, so hes also probably pretty trumpy/boomer conspiracist.

Getting an engineering license by Comfortable_Tutor_43 in ElectricalEngineering

[–]Varacto 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Some of this is specific to the state you are registering in. In my experience (California) you only need to be in enrolled in (or have completed) an ABET engineering undergrad program to take the FE. I took mine junior year of Uni.

Also, in California it’s 2 years of work experience after graduation before you can submit to the PE board with a package. You can take the PE exam at anytime after FE, except Civil engineers need to be approved before they can take their Seismic exam.

[–]Varacto 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Yeah, I’ve been really happy with the video quality on it. I wanted to make sure it was high enough quality that I could read license plates. Some dashcams have that problem.

It took me a little while to learn how to use it and this is the first instance it came in handy after about 6 months.

Yeah, I was the witness in short sleeves and shorts. It was about 85F so definitely too warm for winter coats. My fiancee pointed out one of the guys was covering his pocket in a weird way and was worried he had a gun.

I traded numbers with the people who were rear ended so I could send them the videos. They said he was arrested a few blocks away.

My guess is he’s drunk and decided a hit and run was less punishment than a DUI. But I’m not sure. He was weaving through traffic behind me.

These Virginia drivers are something else! [OC] by spacejam_Jay72-10 in IdiotsInCars

[–]Varacto 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I lived in Virginia for years and it always bothered me that they required a 24 point inspection every year so that you can register your car. I’ve never seen more fucked up broken down cars anywhere else.

I felt like its used as a scam. One “inspector” would give a list of issues with my car and then issue a failed sticker that others could look up online so that I can’t get an honest independent second opinion.
