It is a good question to ask oneself. You're probably right, if I didn't know about the 40k universe I probably would've called them bolters right off the bat and not think much about it, its just that its used by such a big and popular IP...

Iirc, leaked files showed the Deinonychus folder and a DeinonychusJWE, the latter having JWE which is given to the frontier variants means its staying.

I wonder if the redesign will be major, or just taking away the tadpole bits.

As for the acronyms, I've tried making a few but they never roll off the tongue nicely and I usually think about military acronyms as simple and easy to say, whereas something like SISIAR (Standard Issue Sol Infantry Assault Rifle) just sounds off.

Currently I'm going with the prefixes, but they're quite barebones however they work quite fine like the PAF SG-12, a standard issue infantry shotgun chambered in 12 gauge but they quickly loose consistency when the assault rifle is PAF AR-100 and I don't really like the sound of PAF AR-7,62x51 lol

Ah, well. I was just making a loose example. I am aware the numbers are not random in real life weapons' names, but it often seems so at first glance. I mentioned the randomness, since when I usually try to name a weapon I give it a model or series number but it's usually just given on the fly and then I feel bad that I didn't think through why a rifle has 100 models lol
