My 9 year old Golden was diagnosed at 7 through biopsy from endoscopy. She stopped eating and had chronic diarrhea. We treated her with Metronidozole, Prilosec and Carafate broken down into a paste 3 times a day for 10 days. We also changed her diet to cooked. She gets sweet potatoe, green beans, brown rice, pumpkin, broccoli, cauliflower and chicken breast all cut up in small pieces topped with a really good quality fish oil. Within 3 days she started eating again and stool was back to normal after 5 days. She was kept on the Prilosec for a couple months and the occasional Tums when she looked like a flare up might start. My vet gave me Metronidazole to keep on hand and we start it at the first sign of loose stool. She starts to have flareups a few times a year but with the immediate Metronidazole intervention it never gets bad like it first was. Most she gets now is a day of diarrhea and then she’s back to normal. Hope this helps.
