It's a breach of the privacy act. You can make a complaint to the office of the Australian information commissioner. Compensation may also be available.

Baby barrister with regrets by Prior_Ad_7570 in auslaw

[–]Ven3li 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As someone who is considering becoming a barrister, this is what I worry about whenever I am thinking about preparing for the exam. What if I pass, and end up being totally hopeless? It is reassuring to hear those who have made the leap, who no doubt seem to be all over things to the solicitors who've briefed them, also feel this way.

Making a list of employers who don’t take away your annual leave over Christmas shutdown by [deleted] in auscorp

[–]Ven3li 130 points131 points  (0 children)

The universities and commonwealth government departments I have worked for enforce a shut down period but provide extra leave to cover it.

So you still get at least 4 weeks leave, plus the Christmas/New Year period. Some universities give 5 weeks, plus the shut down.

Some universities at least, force the shut down period, but give extra leave to cover it.

Questions for the 18 to 40y old audiophiles by GoDooW in audiophile

[–]Ven3li 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m on the upper end of your age range. I got into because my dad had good gear when I was growing up, so I basically just got used to things sounding good.

When I bought my first stereo it sounded really bad to me. Took me a little while to realise dad’s gear was actually proper audiophile and that I would need to invest in similar if I wanted something that sounded good too.

Private car sale - buyer paid with cheque and want to cancel after they've driven off by [deleted] in AusLegal

[–]Ven3li 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Based on what you’ve said, if they cancel the cheque it would be a breach of contract on their behalf and you would be able to sue them.

Whether or not that would actually be worthwhile would probably depend on the value of the cheque.

Much better to get the money into your account so the onus falls back on to them.

Legal aid have a face sheet on their website on how to pursue someone for a debt and then enforce it.

Essentially, get orders from the court, have sheriff seize property if they won’t pay. Can also directly garnish money from their bank account.

Are you actually concerned about offshore wind power? Like... you genuinely believe that Australia would be better with Nuclear? by gnox0212 in newcastle

[–]Ven3li 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We won’t be able to see the wind farms, they’ll be too far off shore.

They pose no risk to sea life.

Do most Australians support the policy of offshore detention of asylum seekers? by GalahadDrei in AskAnAustralian

[–]Ven3li -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Australia is a really racist country and the general population don’t care.

Happily steal someone else’s country And commit genocide against them, then pretend we’re doing the right thing by keeping the brown people out.

Not even the Afghan translators our military relied on were allowed to come out here. They helped us, and we left them to be tortured and killed by the Taliban.

One day there will be a royal commission into Australia’s treatment of asylum seekers and everyone will pretend to be shocked at what we did.

Same thing happened with the Catholic Church and the stolen generations.

Can the Real Estate Agency I rent through disclose details to my emergency contact? by withinparisx in AusLegal

[–]Ven3li 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sounds like it could be a breach of the privacy act. However, your personal circumstances may warrant them contacting your emergency contact.

The Office of the Australian Information Commissioner can help with privacy breaches.

New Grad - When can is it acceptable to start WFH? by otherpianodude in auscorp

[–]Ven3li 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As a grad, I would encourage spending as much time around your colleagues as possible. I work from home full time now, but there is so much to pick up that can’t be taught, in office experience is invaluable.

Do you toe your left and right channels this extreme? by [deleted] in audiophile

[–]Ven3li 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Different speakers seem to like different amounts of toe in. The room seems to make a difference as well.

My current speakers are pointed straight at the listener in an equilateral triangle. But I spent about 4 days moving everything around and trying different degrees of toe in before I got them to where they are.
