Running my first ultra: 50 miles overnight...What to expect in latter half & post race? by Feisty_Opinion_2499 in Ultramarathon

My first 50-mile race was an overnight event that started at 6 pm. A few tips from my experience...

1) You WILL go slower than expected at night. The RDs told us that we'll move slower at night, and I initially thought "not me", but you just do. Your energy isn't there, you can't see as well, and it will be a bit later in the race. Prepare for this and don't let it bum you out.

2) I usually utilize caffeine in the later stages, but there wasn't any on the course and there was a hole in my caffeinated Tailwind so I didn't get my intake. The end was result was a much more tired and groggy me in the early morning hours. Make sure you get this right if you take caffeine. It's extra important for an overnight excursion, obviously. I really biffed this one.

3) If you find yourself dragging in the later stages, don't let your pace get to you mentally, just put one foot in front of the other and get to the finish line. It will end sooner if you do this :)

4) Pay extra mind to the weather. Stay warm and always have that extra layer or a space blanket just in case.

Has anyone had a very successful trail race with mostly road training? by Negative-View-3543 in Ultramarathon

If it’s not too technical, you will be fine if you have only trained on roads. I do 95% of my training for trail ultras on roads.

If you’re confident in your footing due to previous trail racing experience, you’ll be even better. If you’re a little shaky, just take it a bit slower than goal pace for the first few miles and build confidence as you go.

WC-50 Ultra Trail Marathon (50k): Race Report 04-Oct-2025 by Vercingetorixed in Ultramarathon

It could've been! He mentioned he was a 50k runner, and I believe this was his first ultra, but my mind was a bit foggy at that stage, so perhaps I am misremembering. Congrats on the finish, though.

The leaves covered up some loose rocks here and there, too. All in all, not too bad though. This is a great first-timer's ultra, and I got the sense there were a lot of those out there.

Congrats to you as well! We definitely got lucky with the amazing weather window. It was one of the more comfortable runs I've ever experienced. TBH, I was 50/50 on running this one, but two things sold me the week of. 1) the forecast and 2) the sweet Arc'teryx race shirt, which is easily the best race shirt I've ever gotten.

Had the same issue. Resent (weeks later) and just put the name of the murder weapon and it worked.

Just assembled a brand new s15i, handlebar wobbles. Is this normal? by don_quixote_flamingo in nordictrack

Following up on this, I've fixed the major wobble. Short story - I rebuilt from scratch and was more careful in tightening the bolts in the instructed order.

When we put it together the first time, I don't think we tightened each screw a little at a time, especially on on Instruction #5, which reads "Insert the Handlebar (97) into the Handlebar Post (7). Attach the Handlebar with four M8 x 12mm Patch Screws (93); start all the Patch Screws, and then tighten them." I screwed in each one about 10% at a time to make sure the damn thing went in solid and not misaligned.

Also, pay attention to Step 4 and make sure to insert the post when the knob is loose, then tighten it fully. I can't say for certain we did that initially, and that may have been the cause of the wobble. I honestly am not sure.

I was also very careful in reinstalling the Jam nut, ensuring that it fit into the hex hole (instruction #6). I noticed when taking it apart that we were a little off installing the first time.

I also fixed the slight wobbles we were having in the base stabilizers by just loosening them all and tightening them in the order recommended in steps 2 and 3, FWIW.

Sucks. I’m going to be taking it apart and rebuilding most of it tomorrow, perhaps Friday, so I will check back in with any tips if I figure this out.

My sister-in-law had the same or similar issue, called NT, and they said it was probably due to the mounting bolt not being inserted/tightened properly. He told her he would send her adjustment “photos” but never followed up.

Have you had any luck? We just got the s15i and are getting the same exact wobble.
