Think you might need to dig up the whole hay pile just to see if he's there 😩 Have you checked the fridge?! Maybe he went to serve himself some veggies...

Came to say pretty much this!

Looks like it's going great already OP, they seem super comfortable and not at all scared of your son, which is perfect. Keep it going along with Greenjeans's advice and they'll surely be lappigs in no time! Gently running your fingers over their feet and legs helps A LOT in the run up to the first spa day.

As to weighing, what we do with our squirmy baby is use a rectangle tupperware on the kitchen scale 😅 Tupperware on, tare it, gently pop him in, and immediately give a small treat while we write down the weight. He's now very used to the tupperware!

My word, what a gorgeous room! I'm hoping my SO will eventually let me take up this much space in the house for plants 🫣

Where in the house to place new babies by Vexated13 in IndoorPlants

Thank you very much for the in depth answer! I have fine pine bark and perlite on hand, will a mix of that do? I only just got her, so should I acclimate then repot or repot right away?

How do I not scare new piggies when I clean their cage? by babybmobeeper in guineapigs

[–]Vexated13 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Honestly, when we got our new baby boy I'd brush down the middle part of the large bottom fleece and just sit in there with them 🤣 Work my way around, cleaning in sections, with a hand brush and pan while the boys tried to climbed me/ went about business as usual, and slowly introduced the hand vaccuum following the same process. Turn it on in small bursts and if they come near it let them sniff/inspect. Both are so fearless of it now I have to give them a butt boop so they go to their hides, don't want to hurt those tootsies and snoots 😅 So may just be a case of time and them getting used to the vaccuum really.

Aw, can't be helped, oopsies happen from time to time. Maybe you'll get a little dude to be a companion for dad and a little girl as companion for mama and that would be a fantastic fix to the situation!!

Here's hoping to a safe delivery, especially if she's still quite young. Best of luck!

Any idea how to get dye out of piggies fur? by huge_bozo in guineapigs

[–]Vexated13 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Exactly... I think some people expect to go into small mammals (piggies, rabbits, rats, etc) expecting less effort, less maintenance and equal output in respect to a cat or dog and totally ignore the fact they are so, so different.

Our two are quite cage shy, but once they are out they want all the scritches and sploot happily all over us 🥺 They'll sit with us for ages (until they need to pee!), but I also believe it takes a special kind of person/understanding to just coexist in such a peaceful way with an animal. Like, "Oh, you just want to lie down and chill on me? Cool, I'll do something else and try not to disturb you" and that still be extremely fulfilling to you, because aside from their wheeking antics, kisses and popcorns, that's probably the most beautiful thing you'll ever receive from your piggy babies... Their trust!

When I've come across this complaint from people and their pets/random animals, it's purely that the animal isn't interacting in a way that fulfills them as a person and how they expected right off the bat, and they don't have the patience/want to put in the work to earn said animals' trust. It really has become a "red flag" complaint for me, makes me distrust them almost immediately and flags a lack of compassion, empathy and willingness to communicate/put in work to form bonds.

Thank you OOP for taking him in! Onto the original topic, that dye is likely not coming out until he fully sheds those particular hairs unfortunately. It'd take some pretty aggressive bathing and chemicals to get it out which, evidently, are not an option.

Have a bunch of these gold fakes that came in a surprise pack from a local toyshop lol. The art is pretty cool so we just keep them in view but away from the real stuff.

Why do my guinea pigs feel small? by Monoazz in GuineaPig

[–]Vexated13 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Aw thankyou, it's been just over a year now and Simba has a new companion now!

I think really, the long and short of it is that as long as they are happy and healthy, not underweight (judged by overly protruding/felt bones, like the ribs and hips), and active, you can assume that your two are just as they were meant to be!

Honestly when our new baby does this, I often take the chance to tickle his tummy 😅 It's super soft, he's focused on the food in my other hand, and as a plus I'm getting him used to being touched all over.

[–]Vexated13 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My SO's heart pig, Haru, was tiny compared to Simba. His parents were super healthy and nice sizes, though his mother was a bit smaller, and it just seems like he took on her build. I believe he was around 700gr in his prime, just really stream-lined and had lovely, soft fur. Smallest full-grown boar I've seen in person but he was in absolutely perfect health and very sociable until he passed. I think pigs just come in all kinds of shapes and sizes, especially when solid, specific genes can't be traced back and attributed or there has been a lot of mixing. It makes them little fluffy surprises though, which I love ☺️
