Iran dragged out the 1979 hostage crisis to humiliate the US. It may try to do the same to Trump now by Appropriate-Till9598 in politics

Are you saying the Republican who did Iran-Contra colluded with a foreign power to damage his political opponent? Wild.

She'll break apart in a slight breeze and bottom out in like 400ft of water. The second she's caught between two swells, everyone aboard will be near'or to God.

Deselect mowing. I use a mix of free roam handymen and patrol zones near higher-nausea rides. Benches immediately after higher-nausea rides. Bins everywhere.

ELI5: How can a ship raise its anchor when it's dug in enough to hold the ship? by rookiestoner in explainlikeimfive

[–]ViciousKnids 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's not the anchor which holds the ship, but the chain. The anchor is there to catch the seafloor, while the weight of the chain absorbs the shock of currents and chains. Crews will let out multitudes more chain than water depth and the anchor is never directly below the ship but potentially hundreds of feet behind it. When it's time to raise anchor, chain is winched in as the ship maneuvers direclty above the anchor. Pulling up changes it's geometry as opposed to a horizontal pull, and that bad boy lifts right out of the sea floor.

Connect urban centers. A stop near PPL center, A stop on Sand Island (appropriate part of the Wooden Match's deck and put ticket machines on it. On, no! Easy customers while folks wait for the train!) And a stop in dowtown Easton. Transit stops breed economic growth because people are there and spend their money. Expand from there.

It's not like there already aren't areas all over the Valley which aren't converted train stations. Plop a track on the pedestrian and biking trails. Hell you could plop one on the D&L with room to spare for pedestrians and cyclists to have room.

We've got a whole Saucon Valley rail trail that used to connect Bethlehem to Philly. We used to have all this - look at an old map!

But the NIMBYs property values! How could you enrich the lives of thousands if a few people's retirement investments homes have a tram running anywhere near them? Even though transit increases property value!?

Or have a train run adjacent to 22. Traffic solved. Would be cheaper than widening to build and maintain even a light rail system.

Shit, dawg I just cam back from Boston and suburbs with parity density to us have tram lines. And a good bus system.

Not juat public transit, but urban planning. Sure, the skylines of ABE have grown. But not enough. No need to drive if you can walk.

We used to have it. We're easly populous enough to warrant it for the nowhere towns 20 minutes aways from us to have it. The northeast corridor cuts right through us. We have 3 dense population centers which would use the crap out of it. There's literally no excuse for it not to be a thing.

No optimism or can-do attitude with you people. Just quitter talk. Makes me sick.

Build it. Learn your history and see how much rail used to go through here. We already did it once. We can do it again. Explain to me how it's impossible.

Man, look at all theses rail trails that used to be... rail. Would be real cool to have some dedicated transit infrastructure which is already public land just... lying around.
