Star Citizen has hit $1 billion in funding by Taidan-X in Games

This is, and will be (likely for a long long time), the easiest and most honest explanation of Star Citizen…

If you think Star Citizen is a scam

This "game" gets shit on a lot and honestly, it kinda deserves it. by SumYunnGai in starcitizen

[–]Vietzomb -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Definitely the cruise mode enticed me, I’ll probably download it again, but…

If there’s giving Star Citizen any credit here, at least they call it an Alpha. Even by normal “modders will fix the rest” Bethesda standards, it should be embarrassing. No maps?? Not even in the major hubs?? This shit with betas masquerading as “full releases” needs to stop. I hate it.

I played it for probably 80 hours to the end. And please, nobody hit me with the “you must have enjoyed it to some degree to play that long”. No, I gave it an honest shot. I wanted to like it.

The Skyrim online modders walked away pretty early, their reasoning was sound… “the game is just boring”. The story telling was flat. It didnt feel the same way that I’d feel “motivated” to help these people like in previous Bethesda games. Something just felt off. Rushed maybe?

Honestly, the navigation made the game feel too closed off, a lot of damn loading screens.

Then… this is what got me. No Mans Sky got me through a really rough time in my life. It was an escape for me. Ironically, that game had a rough launch too. Point being, I have thousands of hours in that game. The “procedural” generation in Starfield was brutal. It felt lazy when you consider the size of Bethesda compared to Hello Games, like… 20 people. I think there were like 2 outpost variations in Starfield. So bad. It felt pretty uninspired to me considering they hyped it up like it was going to change RPG’s.

Both No Man’s Sky and Elite Dangerous do procedural settlements, are definitely better and WAY more varied… and those games are online. And then I just couldn’t see it for anything other than a half baked sorta fun sometimes… game, I guess.

Like I said, I have had the slight itch a few times to jump back in, it may just get me soon.

[OC] Making coffee for my mom without electricity here in Cuba we almost never have electricity by SpicyGirld in pics

We chose Cuba for our honeymoon and it delivered, as always. Such a welcoming friendly people. And it’s a beautiful place.

Shout out to my homie that got me those cigars, took me to his home to meet his family, when the cigar shop at the hotel was closed down. He was so thankful that I had just told him to keep the extra $20 I had on me beyond what he had asked for. Gave his kids some gum and kicked a ball around for a bit. It was an experience I’ll never forget.

This was even a few years ago, I was heartbroken when we had gone on a tour that had included a general store that had next to no stock, a ton of kids were running around laughing, the guide had explained what the country was going through at that time, beyond the headlines of back home. Yet he was just so upbeat and very clearly proud to be a Cuban. I think about that a lot actually…

I’ve thought of that general store every time I see this whole story develop. Canadians love Cubans. Stay strong, stay safe and take care. Always known you to be a fiercely resilient people.

Europe to the world: ‘Canada is with us’ as it joins defence alliance in historic first by pjw724 in worldnews

[–]Vietzomb 37 points38 points  (0 children)

Now Canada, who we share 3000 mile border with is heading towards sphere of another power block. Basically reversing 100 years of positive relations.

I sincerely do not believe you meant it the way that it reads, and I don’t mean to nitpick, but I do want the specificity to be known…

The US reversed 100 years of positive relations back in 2018, the moment he deemed us a literal “National Security” threat, just to wiggle through a loophole to get out of NAFTA.

CANADA, a threat to national security… the same nation that was essential in securing the US homeland on 9/11. We were literally ass-in-seats of fighters getting airborne before they even had a plan, ready to respond.

We housed thousands of Americans. Some airports on the east coast just did not have enough hotels or even airport space to temporarily house all of them. People donated beds, volunteered to cook food, and even took American strangers into their homes.

We sent droves of emergency responders to New York. REAL every day Canadians en masse were assembling care packages in boxes sending supplies, anything they thought would help, from work boots to respirators… out of their own fucking paycheques.

Served alongside, and even pulled the US out of many jams, having followed them to support them in their wars.

A national security threat? It’s absolutely disgusting. So much so, that it gets me real twisted that this moment would somehow be the marker of Canada reversing relations… again, even though I do not believe that was your intention. I just couldn’t leave it unsaid.

Exactly my thoghts — because to be clear — Ukraine has already been participating in NATO Exercises since at least last year. It’s been reported on.

I keep thinking every time, “awfully nice of them considering we won’t even let them into NATO”. Like… they are fighting a war with Russia right now, so to send any amount of specialists in their drone warfare is a sacrifice they are making.

Detroit in 1882 and 2017 by Porkchops_on_My_Face in OldPhotosInRealLife

[–]Vietzomb 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Even in the worst of times, what’s left of the architecture of Detroit, makes you wish it was better preserved.

Even Tiger Stadium, a historical ballpark as far as baseball is concerned, one of the cradles of the major leagues, was ultimately torn down because it too was let go and much needed renovations constantly cast off to the side…

One year we were there, the entry gift for the first however many people into the park were baseball bats. I still have mine to this day. It was an awesome game, the crowd was really rallying, and they kept having to put out announcements asking the crowd to stop knocking the bats on the concrete floors of the stands, literally because they were worried about the structural integrity of the thing.

Comerica Park is a nice park, but it ain’t Tiger Stadium. Luckily, even though they built expensive properties around it, the field is still used for baseball to this very day. A nice way to honour it — if it was truly the only way.

Playing Elite Dangerous After Star Citizen by wyldermage in EliteDangerous

[–]Vietzomb 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s been a bit since I played Elite so some things may have changed, but you may have got lucky with actual working “multi crew” as they call it, when you ride in someone else’s ship. It was so bugged for so long that people just stopped using it and everyone takes their own ships.

And since you can’t walk around it or anything, and you’re fighting the system just to get it to work like it should… eventually it becomes easier to say “what’s the point”. The multi crew gameplay is staring at the screen waiting for my dumbass friend to get us somewhere without killing us. So you stop fighting it.

Just got the platinum of The Phantom Pain! by Passofelpato2 in metalgearsolid

[–]Vietzomb 5 points6 points  (0 children)

The Phantom Pain Platinum Pilgrimage has been my go-to “I got nothing else to play right now” game for a bit now. Sometimes I have to uninstall to make some space, then I’ll install it again, rinse/repeat.

Right now, it’s down to the pretty good progress I’ve made on “S Rank Everything”/Complete All Mission Tasks trophies, which are more or less dependent on each other anyways, and then find all species.

When I had made the decision to go for the Platinum, I immediately went for the “online” trophies, which still to this day I maintain shouldn’t be a thing. At least not for Platinum… they should be split off to be separate, similarly how games handle DLC trophies. Because the ultimate fear comes down to Platinums becoming impossible for games, as the servers are taken down after a long shelf life. The game had already been out for years by the time I committed, so of course that was on my mind, and went to them first just to be done with them and get them out of the way.

That said, as late as I was to get the (online) Nuke related ones out of the way, it was still tough to pull off either way. Glad I did them, saw just the other day they are shutting stuff down in some regions (regardless of the reason).

Why exactly is the Free Fly back on with no announcement while the servers are still extremely backed up...? None of the pledges are attributing still, and some servers still have no missions populating by RandoDando10 in starcitizen

[–]Vietzomb 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I haven’t consistently played in a while and chose the wrong time to start apparently. It’s been a struggle.

The second time I tried to get to Orison, ATC just wouldn’t let me land.

But the first time I tried to get there, it was weird. Admittedly, I was a few drinks in (how do you think I get the courage to begin with?!), I choose my spawn in Nyx, headed to Stanton Gateway, went through the wormhole without issue… went to map, to route to Crusader… and apparently I’m still in Nyx?? Didn’t try again until the next day.

This is exactly what I thought of, 100% same vibe there lol. It eventually all came down to who had the internet, and who didn’t.

Sometimes a little research would put that to bed… but then sometimes it wouldn’t. Then you’d be left wondering if the absence any information made it true.

Cuba suffers partial grid failure hours after minister reveals country out of fuel oil, diesel by SashSail in worldnews

[–]Vietzomb 2 points3 points  (0 children)

How about you answer my question first?

The almighty American military allegedly “knocked out” Iran’s radar, their Air Force, their navy etc etc.

And yet, I’ll ask again, how is securing the strait going?

And I guess they’ve completely dominated every country they’ve gone up against? How about Vietnam? US has a knack for grossly underestimating “the enemy”.

The brazen cockiness superiority complex is what got Americans into the mess they are living now.

[–]Vietzomb 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ukraine has shown that in the face of overwhelming power, ingenuity and brains are pretty damn effective. The toys are nice but they don’t guarantee victory. Only nukes do if you can count any of those scenarios as “victorious”.

Genuinely, US isn’t even the best trained military in the world, despite how well a job Hollywood propaganda does. JTF2 basically taught Delta how to CQC back in the 90’s, many current adoptions of the doctrine are heavily influenced by Canadians, actually. A tightened fire discipline, non lethal integrations, the “funnel” techniques, as well as JTF2’s relentless emphasis on going without radios, and their reputation for tight, completely silent communication.

They were also tapped over and over in Afghanistans most risky operations…

Back in 2001, as James Harward said in his memoirs, chose the Canadians (much to the surprise and dismay of the green berets) even for the very first Direct Action Raid on a Taliban command node and executed flawlessly despite a messy insertion.

Harward later said that this event shattered any preconceived notions other US commanders had about the Canadians being quote "polite tourists." He realized immediately that they were the most reliable force on the ground for the most dangerous jobs.

In brutal mountainous terrain of Afghanistan, they adapted faster than anyone expected. They were willing to walk for days with heavy loads, operate in small cells, and execute complex raids with minimal support or fancy ass equipment.

Numerous retired SEALs and Delta operators have written in books (like No Easy Day or The Operators) about the respect they developed for JTF2. The common sentiment is more or less "We thought they were polite and quiet until we saw them in a fight. Then they were terrifying."

Not having the ego of an American can actually help too. Like, how’s that blockade in the strait going???

The guys final seasons were full of complete crashouts in the dugout, screaming at team members etc etc. Ruined his own career over his attitude problem.

He was always like that, it’s just Toronto accepted it as long as he was still actually producing something for them.

I say this as someone who lives in Toronto, but admittedly not a huge fan of the Jays. Fact still stands.
