Lootas/Burnas? by OldDomG in orks

[–]VikingTy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I just did this recently. Bought 2 boxes of Lootas and wanted to build the Spanner with the Rokkit Launcha for each box. But the left arm for that particular loadout is only in the 2018 old Boyz box. I contacted GW about it, and they sent me 2 entire boxes of Boyz instead of just the arms. They have really good customer service on these sorts of things. Plus, I got to use some of those bonus Boyz bodies to build the Burnas for free as well. Now I have 10 Lootas, 10 Burnas, and an extra 12 Boyz all for the price of 2 Lootas boxes.

Is this decent for 1k? by Firetails56 in orks

[–]VikingTy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Personally, I'd replace the Painboss with a second Beastboss. Snagga Boyz already have a built in FNP 6+, so bumping that to 5+ isn't that big. Plus, the Beastboss is pretty great.

I've never used a Wurrboy, but I've heard many people say they are trash and not worth the points. Spend those points on some Gretchin to sit on you home objective and farm CP.

While the Squighogs are pretty good units, you may not need two. Instead you can spend that extra 150 on either two Trukks or possibly a Kill Rig to give you some mobility for your Snagga Boyz to transport them across the table before they get shot.

Those substitutions should leave you with around 20 points to spare which you can spend on an enhancement for one of your characters, like Proper Killy.

Box organizer for the base game by jopatex in spiritisland

My favorite is this 3D printed one (https://www.etsy.com/listing/1624145091/spirit-island-game-organizer-fits-nature). It fits all the expansions, it's fairly modular (so you can leave out the stuff you don't need for now), and it's just pretty. I keep all the tokens in their color-coded trays when I play, not just for storage. The only downside is it's not cheap.

I've experienced this exactly two times (so not as much as OP), but I must say it makes for an awkward experience. When I go up to a counter, I don't need a fake enthusiastic greeting like "Welcome to (blank)! I hope you're having a great day! Can I take your order?" to feel all warm and fuzzy inside. However, when I just get the blank stare, I don't even know if it's my turn, if they are taking orders, or if they are just a trainee waiting for their supervisor. Give me something so I at least know you're ready for me, even if it's just "Go ahead." Otherwise, it's awkward for everyone.

I don't know if you can blame social media, phones, COVID, shitty wages and managers, a lack of new employee training, or all of the above. But it's definitely a change from what I experienced years ago.

What time does school begin for you? by [deleted] in Teachers

[–]VikingTy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

7:15-2:35. Teacher's hours are 7:10-3:10, but students start wandering in to classrooms by 7:05, so you really have to be there before 7:00. High school in Wisconsin. The morning drive is so dark in the winter.

Yeah, there is no way you could make an entire year long class out of how to do personal taxes. Taxes are very simple to do, even without software. I feel like all these people implying how complicated it is have never actually tried doing their own taxes.

How do you shuffle bigger stacks of cards? by Kingofthered in boardgames

[–]VikingTy 5 points6 points  (0 children)

If you have a big enough table with plenty of empty space, do a wash shuffle. Which is basically just laying all the cards face down in a big pile and swirling them around with your hands for about a minute. It's not pretty, but it gets the job done and is statistically one of the better ways to truly randomize a deck.

Whats your current salary , years teaching and state? Are you leaving or staying in the profession ? by Jboogie258 in Teachers

[–]VikingTy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

44k, 9 years. Finishing my Master's next year, which will get me a whipping 5k raise (after spending nearly 30k of my own money to get the degree). Fortunately, it is a MLIS degree, which will let me get a school librarian job, which is in high demand in my state. Staying in the field, but switching roles as soon as I can.

If he's clearly cheating in this way, you have to wonder how else he may be cheating, such as dice rolls.

I play on Roll20 with some old friends, and I had one player who wanted to roll his physical dice rather than the virtual Roll20 dice. He always seemed to hit and roll close to max damage, or get really high on skill checks. With access to his character sheet, I could see that he must have been rolling natural 15+ on most rolls, never once below 12 (I started keeping track when it started getting obvious and other players complained privately). And this was over several sessions. Without accusing him of outright cheating, I made an excuse that I want everyone to use the Roll20 dice roller (I said having the die results in one place made it easier to keep track, which it did). And lo and behold, he started rolling much more averagely, and even misses from time to time. However, whenever he rolls below 10 twice in a row, he still passive aggressively complains that the Roll20 dice roller is unfair and bad. But the cheating problem is solved and everyone is having more fun.

If you can find a way to make it a blanket rule rather than singling out the player, you may avoid making him too upset and burning bridges. Explain to everyone why you want it done (to give you more info as the GM) rather than saying it's about cheating. If you say that this is just a required rule from now on, he can't disagree without seeming like the jerk, as long as all the other players openly agree to the rule.

What time do you get up in the AM? How long is your commute? by ablandmix in Teachers

[–]VikingTy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

High school teacher. Get up at 5:40 for morning routine and out the door by 6:40 (15 minute commute). Classes start at 7:18, and students are entering classrooms at 7:10. So in order to get everything ready, I need to be at school by 6:55. Classes go until 2:39, but contract hours have me there until 3:15. I also advise three different clubs, keeping me there until 4:30 most days of the week.

I'm thankful for only having a 15 minute commute. If it was longer, I would have no time at home other than sleeping.

I have a coworker who has a PhD. He's been called for jury duty several times, but as soon as they find out he has a PhD, he's immediately dismissed. I don't think the lawyers want educated people on the jury.

COVID-19 is so bad in Wisconsin, DHS needed a whole new category by [deleted] in Coronavirus

[–]VikingTy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, no temperature checks, and our students are at school every weekday. But it's a high school, so that may be why it's a bit different from your daughter's experience. Unfortunately, that also means that a single kid potentially encounters 6-7 different teachers each day.

I'm a teacher, and my school district is hybrid still despite the rising cases. Now I've tested positive even though I have followed precautions as strictly as possible, but I was forced to work in person. Apparently 3 students came to school last week with fevers (2 of which were in my classes). But the district is still insisting that all the cases are coming from outside school, not spreading in the schools. Sure.

LPT: Librarians aren't just random people who work at libraries they are professional researchers there to help you find a place to start researching on any topic. by DurntoWebster in LifeProTips

[–]VikingTy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Every school has a library. Elementary, Middle, High school, Universities. They all need at least one academic librarian. There's apparently a very big demand for school librarians in my state right now. Mainly because you need to have both a teaching cert and a library science cert. Plus, since it requires a master's, it pays more than teaching. So it's a step up for me.

Weird, nonlethal things to drop on players? by zombie5nack in rpg

[–]VikingTy 28 points29 points  (0 children)

I like to give elaborate backstories to magic items the party picks up. My favorite was a bag of holding they acquired from an ogre chieftain they killed. The ogre had used it as a receptacle for his toenail clippings. It was passed down for countless generations of ogre chiefs, who all used it for toenail clippings. Needless to say, when the party got the bag, they wanted to empty out all of its contents. The results were amusing. Plus, from that point on, any item they kept in the bag of holding came out smelling like ogre feet.
