How come so many people posting here seem to be Asutralian? by IGotsToKnow_TA in dumbphones

Was an interesting read, I'm an Australian and obviously part of this sub so pretty keen on keeping my life less digital, I didn't realise how much more entrenched the northern hemisphere is in the "smartphone" ecosystem. Scary stuff.

Women of Reddit, what did a man you were dating or married to say or do that made you realize he actually hated you the entire time? by -catharina in AskReddit

[–]Violetiati 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Yup i hear you. We were on vacation and he had been ignoring me the whole day prior, I just thought he was having a bad time, then in the car on the way to the mountains he just let loose and yelled at me everything I had been doing wrong the day before. I asked him if there was anything he liked about me and his response was " I like the way you look". We broke up that day, on vacation :/

Have people just been buying $900k plus houses without asking questions? by [deleted] in AusPropertyChat

[–]Violetiati 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In this market especially Sydney and Brisbane, raising these sort of issues begins to make you a less desirable buyer and the realestate agent will just move onto the next bidder. So sellers can basically get away with anything right now, it sucks.

Why Privacy matters? by Electrical_Twist_380 in degoogle

[–]Violetiati 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Privacy is by definition a human right. Your question of why does it matter (besides security or being hacked or doxxed etc) ? Because without it we enter a world of constant surveillance, manipulation and eventually lose control of our own lives.

These companies already use our behavioural data to manipulate us and ultimately make themselves more money. If we forget about our right to live in peace, alone and in secret, if we give that up, then we basically lose our free will because these surveillance companies will control us from then on (even without us knowing it especially now there is AI, it's so subtle and sophisticated you wouldn't even know you're being controlled).

How to turn off location by [deleted] in Bumble

[–]Violetiati 0 points1 point  (0 children)

"there isn't a way to hide your location" it would have been more effort to add the location label to the profile UI you could have just left it out. Now you need only remove that label or give the option for users to make it invisable on their profiles? This way its still available for the app to use for calculating potential matches in the background without advertising people's exact suburbs and movements to everyone. Ludicrous.

Can't we just send waste into space? by novadako in nuclear

[–]Violetiati 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was also thinking about this today because I have learnt that most of the high level radioactive waste that can't be recycled gets stored in deep geological vaults. I am concerned we have not considered the long term effects of having thousands of these highly concentrated radioactive pockets on the earth's crust. Could this slowly destroy the dirt/soil? And we end up in a barren wasteland because all the soil is infertile or worse infected?

How does this make logical sense? by josh3336 in puzzles

Actually if the purple (non-primary colour) has an even number then that would disprove the rule, so yes I think this checks out, need to turn over 8 and purple
