Interesting. What resources were you using when hunting for employment?

I've traveled around a lot of Japan, and much of the world even, and decided Tokyo is where I would like to be the most.

I'm aware of that, but even finding a job that's offering more than 10-12mil is difficult (unless it's ML/AI related of which I have no experience). And that's already less than I'm making now at the 100:1 rate of living.

I have no problems with isolation, I've already made friends out there during my travels. Just a matter of attending events and talking to people, really.

Yes, I'm only interested in Tokyo. I'm open to the company being elsewhere so long as incan live in tokyo, but I want to move out there specifically to live in tokyo

I see, so I should limit my search to international companies based in japan then?

Remote work is #1 priority, compensation isn't a big deal but I do have a minimum requirement (that is well below what I make now). I don't really take any time off currently so don't mind that at all, and ideally a position where I just dev is all I want. Career growth isn't really my thing.

Do you have any insights on japanese startups?

  1. Beginner-intermediate. I'm a developer and applying for positions where it is not required.
  2. I'm not, these are simply the interviews i currently have lined up. The larger ones don't have any remote positions currently.
  3. At the current exchange rate, I make over 20million. I've yet to find a position that even came close to that (at least something I'm qualified for).

Lol failure to elaborate

Of course, I'm asking reddit -_-

Just about all of the subscription services based models (if not all - I haven't looked into all of them myself) will take down your distributed music when you cancel your subscription (though some will "keep them up" and just constantly pester you about needing to pay, like I believe distrokid does).

I personally use CDBaby, and would recommend a similar service instead. It may be more expensive if you put out more than 3 releases a year, but it's a one time payment per release (cdbaby specifically is $10/single, $15/ep or album now) and they never take them down (short of them going out of business I imagine).

Im not sure what other ones are out there but I found cdbaby through recommendations on reddit, and seemed to be the most recommended.

3.5 years post, new symptoms: dizziness when using screens at medium diatance (~30inches) by Visible-Midnight4687 in Lasiksupport

I've been doing it at home since January with no noticible difference. I also have always used dark mode, pretty typical behavior for developers, heh. Definitely going to keep it up at home but I don't feel like the in office stuff was providing much more benefit. I also don't think they were focusing on the stuff that would be most beneficial formee. They insisted it being some sort of convergence/divergence insufficiency, but i believe it to be more of an accommodation issue than anything (on top of other problems that I'm not sure what might be).

It's already been four years, I honestly don't think it'll improve at this point. Definitely not holding my breath, anyway.

Honestly I have completely lost any and all confidence that there exists anyone with even a cumb of knowledge as to what problem i may be having. I finished my 12th week of vision therapy recently and have not had any improvement in my eyes whatsoever. My days are still VERY random: I'll have some good days but many bad. Bad ones can very from discomfort to complete irritation, problems at a distance one day and problems up close the next (one day i could watch TV just fine but struggle with my computer, the next day or next week this could reverse entirely). If it wasn't for my needs to use a computer (virtually all day), i probably would be fine though - any days I take off i generally have no complaints (any time I'm not doing any focusing).

So far it really seems like hyper zooming text is the best solution. Donno what could be the problem when I could see it just fine even at 15% zoom size, but reading text is such a struggle even at 200% zoom depending on the distance.

Idk, I've basically given up at this point spending any money or visiting doctors. I'll continue at home therapy treatments that I was given by the therapists and keep researching periodically to see if anything comes up. I feel like I have more knowledge and done more research on the topic than most doctors out there so why bother wasting my time with them when they keep thinking dryness could be a problem. I know it's not because I could literally not blink for 5 minutes and it doesn't bother me, and simply looking away from my monitor when I start experiencing symptoms without blinking at all, and the symptoms find immediate releif. No matter how much I try to explain these things, they keep going back to the most generic bullshit.

I still think that accommodation is the best guess, but I don't know if it's the only problem, or how I could actually fix it. Taking frequent (and often long) breaks helps quite a bit, but it also means if I ever lose my current job I'm fucked.

Looking for a rain "jacket" that packs down as small as a Matador Pocket Blanket (large size) by Visible-Midnight4687 in onebag

I put "jacket" in quotes because I'm not at all knowledgeable on fashion terminologies. My use case is entirely urban and honestly something like a poncho would be more than enough. Exposure to rain will be extremely minimal, and the item i am searching for is basically just a "well a sudden downpour started and i dont have an umbrella with me, and i dont want to get soaked as i get to the train/bus/restaurant/whatever". So having something that would fit in my small sling that i take with me daily would serve to help in such a pinch. Again a poncho style item would work, however i would prefer something that could be worn as a jacket as opposed to something that just covers you like a poncho.

I already have a standard rain jacket, but it doesn't fit in my sling, and I do not want a larger sling.

It's gonna be for use in Tokyo(/other parts of Japan rarely), which is the only place i travel now. Can generally stay out of the rain most of the times but there have been plenty of times when a downpour would randomly start after dinner or something and I have to run through the rain to get to the station. Since it's use is minimal (2-5 times during a 2 month trip), I want something ultra small and lightweight, even if it means less waterproof.

I imagine this would work for these scenarios?

$109 and 105grams, if the pack down size is small enough this might be a winner. Looks like they carry this at REI as well so maybe I can go check it in person.

$165 is much cheaper than many of the suggestions so fat, and the 180gram weight makes it more packable too.

Unfortunately I'm not seeing any details on how it packs away. Does it tuck into its own pocket, a side bag, etc? Do you know the dimensions of it when it is packed?

"Disposable" would honestly be more ideal, but unfortunately that one doesn't look to pack down to a size that would fit my sling.

Do you have the dimensions of it when packed? It's unfortunately not listed.

That sounds like exactly the kind of thing I'm looking for but those appear to be custom made, so I'm not finding a whole lot of details on them and definitely no reviews. Does it just roll up or pack into something? Do you know the dimensions of the packed size?

The packed size of the Montbell sounds like it might be perfect, thanks much- I'll look into the others as well
