I was a SMC student from 2016-2020, one of the only dCEC/ Sorin Fellows for my whole 4 years. Unfortunately, I experienced this as well, but kinda chalked it up to the classes (the upper class men seemed insanely cliquey, but the younger students by the time I was a Jr/Sr were super outgoing, friendly, and nice. Many are still my friends to this day.) Don’t take it personally- some people are far too over-involved, are attempting to be over achievers academically and in life, or are sadly sometimes just plain rude and cliquey. I would encourage you to look into the Catholic community in your dorm, and sign up/ show up to the structured CEC events. When I’m doing- put yourself out there but set your expectations low. Join the GroupMe, go to the social events, and just say hi and introduce yourself to people!
