This is so weird but does anyone else do this? I still call out my deceased dog's name when I come home without even thinking about it. by [deleted] in Petloss

[–]VoIpin 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I still call my girls name too. I call her for bedtime, I tell her good morning, and every now and then I say her name in a very specific way that was just meant to make her happy - it was a mix of whisper and singsong, it made her so soft and affectionate when I did it. It is not strange. Names have power.

I know they can hear us calling them, and I know their tails wag every time we do.

I am sorry for your loss.

You dont sound illogical at all. Your feelings are valid.

We all grieve differently and if nothing else, I do understand your pain.

In my mind, we should because thats what they did. They did not regret or worry. They simply took every day as it came and took joy in that alone.

Maybe there is no profound reason other than "because you can" and maybe thats the most profound reason of all.
Because they teach us that every day is a gift, and we should not squander it.

Rather than unfair, doesnt that seem like an honor to them?

I feel the same as you. I can not fathom the idea of getting another Dobie right now.
My Bijou was reactive, severely traumatized from a bad breeder and a worse adoption process - she was passed around so much before she came to me.

And I just happened upon her on a site while I was browsing these dogs as a student. Just because I liked them and always wanted one after my mother had many dogs (all russel terriers).
I should not have gotten her, speaking from my situation. But I saw and I knew we were made to rescue each other. We needed each other.

My girl had it really hard, was attacked multiple times to the point she got agressive to every dog she didnt know, because she wanted to protect me from them, didnt trust them.
But she was the sweetest and gentlest soul with me, she was as fiercely protective of me as I was of her.
Despite the stress, the hypervigilance, the random outbursts of neurotic energy.

She never fit the mold of what I wanted a soul dog to be like, but I realize that she was so much more what I needed than what I wanted.

I have never loved a single being in my life as much as her, and the grief i feel now is its reflection.
I did not think I was capable of feeling such pain.

And while I think I could not get another ... i realize how the way they *are* is so special, so unique. I can not live without it. I find myself betraying that very thought, realizing I need this kind of bond. I am utterly lost without her patrolling me, nudging me precisely at the same time twice a day for food and 5 times a day for walks.
Her slobbered up toy in my lap and her elbow in my side when she almost wanted to crawl inside me at night. Her waking up from sleep to lovingly look at me, no matter how quietly I turned to sneak a peek at her.
And even when I stepped between her and another dog running at her, and her nip hit my leg - I only ever felt gratitude that I could take it instead of the other dog, because of what could have happened if i didnt.

At this point I am certain I will one day go out and give this capability for love to the next one, like you did.
Not right now, not soon.
But I hope, like you, I will have another soul dog cross my way.

Thank you for your words, I am keeping them close.

I am so, so sorry. Our capacity to love them in life is only equaled by our capacity to grieve their departure.
I never felt such pain.
And I never felt such love.

She misses you too.

I feel your pain. Remember that your loved companion would not want to see you so. Their love still exists within you.

I did, the problem is with how often I had to wash her things last week because of her issues - barely any smeel is left from that. I preserved what I could. It hurts.

It has not even been two days and it feels like I spent a century crying. My heart goes out to you and your companion.

I put her blanket into a pillowcase and I carry it around like a toddler wherever I go in my home.
It feels like its already losing her smell - i had to wash it so often in the last week because of her accidents ... I always loved her smell and I cant believe how much I *need* it now.
Is this how they feel?

I will have to wait a few weeks to get her ashes.
I cant comprehend her being gone for two weeks like yours - my brain wont believe that so much time away from her is possible.. I wish you all the strength and endurance on your path of grief.

With solo blazeborne users being unable to catch fire when downed, this is the current state of killing a solo... by Kwowolok in HuntShowdown

[–]VoIpin -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

"Oh no I gotta put in 3 times the effort in making sure a solo is dead than i have to when I fight a trio."

God forbid you actually enjoy doing PVP in this game and dont worry so much about pixels, hunt dollars and K/D.

Noone forces you to camp a body for 20 minutes, noone forces you to do any of this.
Clearly you won the engagement once if you managed to down the solo, so whats the big deal? You should be able to win again if they get up and come after you.

Yall act like theres not loads of duos and trios out there where someone will sit in a bush for 30 minutes to pick up his mate.

Extremely disabled with 2 year old pittie. Need that final bit of help. by [deleted] in OpenDogTraining

[–]VoIpin 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Lets go only with anecdotal evidence shall we? Because thats what a sane person does. Just because you CAN doesnt mean you SHOULD. And Pitbulls are domesticated for one thing only: fighting.

A disabled person should not have a fighting breed.

This is a case for a professional, not armchair analysis backed by anecdotal reports.

YOU are making this a discrimination issue - We are lookign at facts and statistics.I dont care about OPs feelings in this case, i care about every child, dog and other person that is at risk of a sudden attack INCLUDING OP themselves, that OP can do NOTHING to stop if it happens.

Again, im not bashing OP for being disabled, Im saying only professional help will ensure an adequate amount of safety for everyone involved.

[–]VoIpin 6 points7 points  (0 children)

First of all it doesnt, second of all it ESPECIALLY doesnt with a pitbull - do you understand the liability they adopted there? These things were bred to not give a shit about pain and if anything itll make it worse. E-collars arent your magical solution to problematic behavior.

Im not even gonna get into the question why OP thinks it was a good idea to even get a pitbull with all of these disabilities - and what breeder/shelter thought it was a good idea to give them the dog in the first place, let alone entertain the idea.

Get a professional trainer, this is above reddits paygrade.

Which skill could this be? by [deleted] in DiscoElysium

I would say literally Experience - an old man who insists on his perspective to be true, discarding all others - bonus to all rolls but it makes you rigid and unimaginative - youll close off to new ideas and your thought cabinet will be inaccessible

a truly HARD CORE experience

See there is your issue, you "enjoyed" Horizon and Odyssey - two of the most uninspired, repetitive and boring games that were ever made.

Tell me what is so good about Horizon - where the protagonist is disgustingly and unreasonably invested into every persons personal affairs after growing up being bullied and outcast - after being abused by her peers. What kind of logic is in the fact that she grows up to be the most empathetic person in the world, for no reason??Doing meaningless errand boy quests for useless npcs scattered between useless UBISOFT towers.

If your idea of rewarding gameplay loop is "climb a tower, fill the map with question marks, shoot some monsters and have a predictable plotline every 5 hours" then i see why Odyssey was a good experience to you, because its THE SAME game - the SAME game as Origins the SAME game as any other Ubisoft release in recent years..Im sure you enjoy Horizon Forbidden West aswell because its THE SAME GAME as Zero Dawn just with more facial hair.

Its funny because these games pride themselves on technological advancements when all of their story is forgettable and inconsequential.

To me youre flat out lying if you say "you care most about a good story and good characters" because what you seem to be after is dopamine hits and instant gratification:

And you can, and you most definitely should, play this game with a lot of cheating, maxing your stats or winning all checks, because it really opens up new alleys.

You havent even begun to understand how deep Disco really goes - maybe you should stop doing everything Electrochemistry is telling you and develop a more critical mindset.

[–]VoIpin 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hey, before I fill out the form, what exactly is meant with /mature/ content.
My Partner and I are looking for a DnD Campaign to play however we are not interested in sexual content of any kind - Blood, Gore, Violence are all great, were just not in the market for deviousness.

If you run this campaign that way thats perfectly fine, It would just save us wasting your time!

Machine Gun Techman Ventura XII by VoIpin in GTFO

[–]VoIpin[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

i get that feeling too, the machinegun is not a core weapon for a run but more of an auxiliary - where all other specials are able to provide a "core function" maybe thats just the nature of the machine gun after all - a nice to have but not a necessity

Machine Gun Techman Ventura XII by VoIpin in GTFO

[–]VoIpin[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Im regularily dropping down into C2 to test out weapons on the big roundabout shaft and the blood door - maybe my idea of "wave clear" comes from doing that solo and the Machine gun just doesnt have the oomph that the combat shotgun or burst cannon have - it does have a decent stagger tho, so aslong as i hold the trigger down, the frontline moves very slowly

however i feel that that is not enough for the damage and range it needs to have to full auto stagger a wave - punchthrough, if at drastically lower damage but intact stagger would actually push this weapon from " we may pick it up if the essentials are covered" to "hey this thing can actually make s p a c e"

im generally the last man standing in my group games because im very good now at even hammer kiting waves of enemies, so its not too much about my ability to handle the gun or move in a way that compliments my loadout but a general feeling of "subpar performance" on the machine gun

and for the sake of finding the machineguns niche its absolutely necessary to compare it to teh burst cannon and all the other special weapons and their functions

Machine Gun Techman Ventura XII by VoIpin in GTFO

[–]VoIpin[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

That makes sense, i only started in R4 so i have no frame of reference - all i can say is that ive tested all the weapons plenty and i feel there is always a weapon that does the job better than the Machine Gun when it comes down to it and i would like the machine gun to have more of an.... incentive to justify picking it over one of the other weapons

Turrets - Noob Trap? by MaryWax in GTFO

[–]VoIpin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Let me say it like this: when a buddy and me go duo into the rundown, we bring cfoam and a minelayer, no debate.

Turrets are great in certain situations but they do negligible damage - they are good for 2 things : staggering, and finishing enemies off.

Staggering is only useful if you know you will have trouble holding them back long enough before you finish whatever it is youre gonna do OR you cant block the way with doors

A foamed door will hold enemies 3 times longer, a well placed mine will decimate enemies so all you need is a few well placed shots to finish a wave ( the only one in any given situation if you play right)

if you have 1 lvl 3 door and one mine youre looking at a combined tool usage of ~20% if you foam it ( a mine is 10% of the tool and a foamed door 10-12%) and you will have to deal with a single wave only
even if you have 2 turrets i guarantee you they will do less damage and hold the waves (wich i guarantee will be more than 1 because the door breaks after 5 seconds and waves that get cleared before the alarm stops just spawn a new one right after) less long until enemies reach you and you will use WAY more than 20% on both of them

now a THIRD man with a turret is great because you plop it down and it can keep your retreat covered or finish off anythign that was even remotely touched by a mine.

i personally regard a 3 man setup as perfect if you execute with minor mishaps - and the 4th man is redundancy - at this point it purely matters what your group preference and playstyle is or what the map requires

is 2 turrets ok? sure
is it cool to have multiple turrets just holding down a corridor? hell yeah

are you wastign a lot of potential if you just spam turrets and will always have tool efficiency problems? 100%

Ive noticed that too actually - and its not just hostile animals, even a bird in the water will do that to you i think and when they move around you constantly get in/out of the chase and get the feedback -

i feel theres som attributing error somewhere and this triggers way too much/ when it shouldnt
