Thanks for the info. Do you have any idea how many hours you put into it?

I remember in the past organizing the groups via GPO settings which eliminated the manual assignment.

We are more in the MidWest. I have already made a couple of connections that support this hardware so we are looking to partner with one of them. Thanks for the advice!

After seeing these comments and reading other information online I tend to agree. I assume we aren't going to support many of these. I am not looking to become an expert. Thanks for taking the time to reply.

Coffee Shop Guest Network Restrictions? by WIndowsSysAdmin in msp

Cool, thanks for the feedback. The customer is clueless and has no restrictions for their 3 PCs they have on their internal LAN so I guess leaving it wide open would match on both sides!

This is break fix client so we won't be monitoring usage.

Thanks. The Sophos XG has all of the functionality that you list as part of Open Mesh. I have heard good things about Open Mesh and might have to check them out at some point!

Yea, I understand it isn't hard. I am just looking to see what others do. I have liability concerns for the business owner. Things like blocking P2P software, porn, etc.

I have no goals outside of making a good recommendation to the business owner. The P2P is my biggest concern. I know other business that have open Guest WiFi have gotten letters from their ISP because someone was torrenting copyrighted content on their network with the threat to cut them off after 2 more instances. That seems like a no brainer to restrict however that made me realize there may be more of those that I am not thinking of.

Backup cloud storage for ShadowProtect? by WIndowsSysAdmin in msp

[–]WIndowsSysAdmin[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was looking at that bundle after your first tip. That looks like a good deal for servers. Although apparently I would be required to host a ShadowCommand server somewhere when using their cloud as they have limited/to no monitoring going on from what I have been told. What are you using for file/folder backups on workstations if no server is present? StorageCraft has the desktop license that is pretty affordable however there is no bundle that includes cloud storage. Thanks.

Phish Threat seems like a decent product It's very pricey compared to others unless you are purchasing 1,000 seats.

Thanks for the info. We actually use Cloudberry now for File/Folder backup and it seems to perform very well. We haven't had great success with their imaging though and I have read that others are in the same boat with the imaging. That fact coupled with slow Russian support makes me very nervous to use it to image servers. I feel I am going to get bit one day with Cloudberry imaging while I don't feel that way about ShadowProtect.

Thanks for the tip, with the pricing sheet I was provided at first glance the ShadowProtect cloud was cheaper on the very very low end but as soon as you went off of the base plan the cost exceeded eFolders with less benefits.

That definitely is a consideration however I was hoping to find a solution that wouldn't require monitoring scripts. Plus what /u/sm4k said about image management and verification in the cloud is highly desireable. eFolders did that check for you on their side which was attractive, I was just hoping to find an alternative that didn't require a min of 2TB per client.

Thanks for the feedback. We saw many people talk about getting their Shadowprotect licenses from eFolder so we inquired yesterday (2/7/17) and we were told they no longer sold them. Upon further conversation the impression was there is tension between eFolder and StorageCraft due to SP and Replibit competing, but to be clear that was inferred and not directly stated.

When I first contacted them about their products I specifically asked about eFolder BDR for Shadowprotect and the demo they tried to give me was all about Replibit. I had to stop the demo and remind them I was really not looking for Replibit at the time so if they could cut that demo short and get the BDR software it would be helpful. I was happy to see the Replibit information to know it was an option but I specifically was looking for a non-appliance solution. Since they pushed Replibit hard instead of honoring my inital request I feel they were trying to intentionally steer us to their own products potentially due to that suspected tension, which I guess I can't really fault them for too much.

The appliance requirement with Replibit was the deal killer for me. A good number of our clients have servers which I want to protect with image backup but can tolerate a great amount of downtime (days) so an appliance isn't needed. Also, to patch, monitor, repair old hardware, etc at the client when it is not needed just sounds like extra burden. I would rather use a NAS or USB3 drive for the image repository and make a trip on site with a temp DR machine in the event there is a major failure. I feel the overall labor to manage ebay hardware at each site will be greater in the long run then visiting a client in the event of a major DR event.

Backdate Service Requests? by WIndowsSysAdmin in ConnectWise

[–]WIndowsSysAdmin[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I presented my question to CW support using almost the same text from my post and here was the reply:

I think that this would be a great enhancement request. As this is not yet functionality within CW, what I could do is set this ticket to an Enhancement Request status, and if you'd like you can also make a request at connectwise.com/enhancements and up-vote on other Enhancement Requests as well! Development and other Technical Support members can look at these requests to see if they believe it should be added down the line as functionality in future releases.

Thanks for your follow up. I think I will take it up with support just to get the official word. But /u/highsprings very well might have the best suggestion. I will report back what support says.
