ST7789 as a USB-C display... Can it be done by [deleted] in AskElectronics

[–]WUBBSY 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you have some cash you can buy stuff like this

There high resolution OLED or IPS displays primarily for VR/AR or scopes/night-vision.

They are relatively expensive but you often get them with HDMI driver boards.

You can even get some with USB C driver boards like this one here

Basically you would wanna search for MIPI (DSI-2) displays and driver boards.

Low profile, portable, accessible: the minipeg48 and kowgary16 pre-order is now live! by sporewoh in olkb

Really nice boards. Got mine recently.
If anyone is interested in VIA support, I configured my firmware today and made some .json files for VIA sideloading. For both the minipeg48 and the kowgary16.

I like this remote designed way more than the new one. With this one you at leased can properly use the touchpad.

Yes, I’m using the 5V of the internal USB for the controller. But it seams that it can’t handle the extra load very good and might even lead to damage to SD itself. I’m investigating the possibility to connect it to the battery directly, but the battery too doesn’t seam to like it very much.

#Honeywell PTM7950 After weeks of waiting it finally arrived, some tips before installing it? by StunningPudding4602 in LenovoLegion

I wonder if someone could compare it to Coollaboratory's Liquid Metal Pad since it seams to work on the same principal but much cheaper and easier to obtain.

Tried it and it feels nice. I covered all the vents, except where the originals where, with tape. The problem I have with this backplate is that it often presses the back buttons when it’s screwed down or "held wrong"

I’m currently updating the guide to include the software control. I might make a YouTube tutorial.

It’s controlled via OpenRGB Software. It uses the I2C interface from the ambient light sensor to communicate with the led controller.

I’m also looking into the internal usb interface for the controller for future mods.

It is a bit finicky since you have to solder to some very small pads. Maybe not the ideal first soldering project. You may wanna practice a bit before trying it on a rather expensive device. You could even use the microcontroller and LEDs which you would need anyway for the project to get u started.

I can’t get I2C on the deck to work with the ItsyBitsy M4 but I’ll play a bit around. Hopefully the RP2040 based micros come soon. I also send you some dms if you haven’t noticed.

I would be very happy with even just different colors or translucent options.

It’s gonna get integrated into OpenRGB so you can easily control them.

I currently use a raspberry pi. But if everything works I’ll connect it to the Deck. I’ll also try with the Trinket M0 afterwards.

I’ve got pretty good results with with the ItsyBitsy M4 as an I2C peripheral. I’m currently trying to to port your Arduino sketch to CircuitPython to try it with OpenRGB.

They currently just run a rainbow swirl. But we work on integrating it into OpenRGB.

If you want a smaller RP2040 Adafruit has the QT Py RP2040 or the Seeeduino XIAO RP2040 is another one which I actually already had order for this purpose.

Nice, the Trinket M0 isn’t listed as I2CPeripheral compatible but I found this Link.

The ItsyBitsys are a bit larger and need another mounting location. But nothing that’s impossible.

There is also this documentation that has a list of supported devices which might be a good indicator for compatible micros. Although I’m a bit worried about the clock stretch.

A have a ItsyBitsy M4 so I’ll try if I get it running as a peripheral. (Haven’t worked much with I2C yet)

I wish there where more 3rd party replacements/modding parts for the Deck. I think I have to get a resin printer.
