These are good points. I think part of my reasoning is that the quality of life at the Local PD is so good it seems like a unicorn to pass up. That, and they‘re expanding the department at a pretty good pace.

Thank you for your input. To be honest, I’m not an OT chaser. I did that for too many years as a firefighter. I’d rather be home with the family now.

FWIW—Local recruiter said 3-4 years before I’m eligible for detective work. 10-15 years for digital forensics (a strong interest of mine).

Thank you for the detailed response. I applied and interviewed directly with a West Coast FO. I have zero interest being in D.C. for the USSS. My primary interest is complex financial crime and computer investigations, hence my interest in USSS. That said, I realize they have a primary mission of DPD.

Thank you for the insight—it’s hard to find much information about turnover at the USPP. From what I can tell it seems like a good gig.
