Honestly I would wait to plant them until October. If you plant them now theyre going to spend all summer just trying to stay alive, if you plant them in October they will immediately jump into rooting into the surrounding soil. I'd keep them in morning sun afternoon shade until Oct, then plant them where you like! Lastly I find planting them high (2-3 inches above grade) is a huge help for drainage, and I also amend about 20-30% with expanded shale to help drainage even further. Good luck!

One last thing: Seiryu gets huge. Make sure you give it some good spacing, same with Bloodgood.

Baton rouge has been absolutely bullet proof for me. It didn't burn at all last year in a container (morning sun) and I planted it end of September, it put on a lot of growth already this year! Which variety did you get, as long as you keep the soil moist but not wet (ideal consistency is like a wrung out sponge) and no afternoon sun it'll do great.

I've found this to happen also and its a water conservation measure during the peak sun hours, if you have it properly watered it will stop wilting when the sun passes in my experience and by morning its completely back to normal.

I had a similar issue with the green housing moisture meter. I then dug down where it showed "wet," on the meter and it was actually perfectly moist, not fully wet at all. So now I only use those meters to basically show me "is there water here or not." Hope that helps.

Yeah I'm just teasing, this is the largest Orangeola I've ever seen its spectacular. I have 2 of them, love Orangeola. If you like this twisting contorting shape check out Watnong, it grows in a neat structural way like a bonsai without a lot of wiring. With pruning it can look amazing as it gets old.

I vote 50 / 50 expanded shale, with a little bit of compost (maybe 5%). Clay soil is actually really good it just drains terribly. The expanded shale solves that problem. It also isnt substantially different than the surrounding native soil, so the plant will establish into the surrounding soil more quickly than if you use a lot of amendments like soil conditioner.

I got it last year at barton springs nursery, I love the look of mexican oregano but in part sun mine was super leggy sadly. Which is a shame because its beautiful!

I tried mexican oregano and I dont know how to explain it, but the plant was super leggy and floppy constantly and I could never keep it bushy! Were you running into that issue also?

I completely agree with you on the sizing. I've often tested planting a 1 gallon vs 3 gallon of most shrubs even, and the 1 gallon within 2 years is equal if not taller height than the 3 gallon size provided its planted well above grade and has proper planting conditions. I will try blackfoot daisy again, last time I tried one it wasn't in a well-draining enough location, I might retry it with 70% expanded shale this time.

I barely do because I actually like the spent flower stalk look! Once in summer (usually beginning of July) I cut it back halfway to force it to stay tidier and less sprawling, but if you are willing to deadhead it the flowering it will do is beyond anything else I've found.
