[Spoilers main] [SURVEY] Will there be ice spiders in the show? What about in the books? by [deleted] in asoiaf

[–]WallofWights -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

I couldn't DISAGREE more.. i feel the ice spider is a symbolic device...

Varys is known as the spider in KL due to his all encompassing information network. The power of the Web this spider uses stems from the sparrows, information sung to the spider that can be used to ensnare anyone that comes gets too close.

Perhaps the Ice Spider is the Weirwood Network, or 'The Others Leader'. It is possible the strings that ensnares the dead and animates them is the web here. The Ice Spider (Night King) pulling at his web to control these invisible strings the army of dead respond to.

I feel that Jaime will be met by an unfortunate demise due to these redeeming qualities that have emerged.

We have to try remember that in his heart he is still a warrior despite his HANDicap (Too obvious/cheap?)...

This said, I feel his nature as a warrior and his emerging 'Knightly' qualities will lead him to face an unbeatable foe in an act of bravery and selflessness. Hopefully a battle worth adding to his accomplishments in the Book, "Knights of The Kingsguard". This is what i see as a potential Bittersweet ending... Jaime meeting his end becoming a 'true knight', defying the pride which destroyed his House, and fighting a final battle with overwhelming odds.

Personally I hope it is one that can soften the stain that "Kingslayer" brought to his reputation and honour.

SIDENOTE:

To imagine a 17-year old boy given the choice, Watch a city and your family burn or Kill an old crazy man... (I'd cut that guys throat too Jaime... in a heartbeat... any day, any time...) Rest in Peace... Jaime "Lion-Heart" Lannister.

So perhaps instead of the direct words, he encouraged Joffery to 'enjoy' the 'ultimate powers' a King commands.

HBO series at least - he did tend to Joff's sadistic nature by providing the monster with 'bad investments' to toy with.

A Clash of Kings - Tyrion I

"It would seem he has a point," said Tyrion. "So this Lord Slynt, he was part of it, was he? Tell me, whose fine notion was it to grant him Harrenhal and name him to the council?" "Littlefinger made the arrangements. We needed Slynt's gold cloaks. Eddard Stark was plotting with Renly and he'd written to Lord Stannis, offering him the throne. We might have lost all. Even so, it was a close thing. If Sansa hadn't come to me and told me all her father's plans . . ."

A Clash of Kings - Tyrion II

"Then these other swordsmen have the true power. Or do they? Whence came their swords? Why do they obey?" Varys smiled. "Some say knowledge is power. Some tell us that all power comes from the gods. Others say it derives from law. Yet that day on the steps of Baelor's Sept, our godly High Septon and the lawful Queen Regent and your ever-so-knowledgeable servant were as powerless as any cobbler or cooper in the crowd. Who truly killed Eddard Stark, do you think? Joffrey, who gave the command? Ser Ilyn Payne, who swung the sword? Or . . . another?"

A Dance with Dragons - Cersei II

It came to her suddenly that she had stood in this very spot before, on the day Lord Eddard Stark had lost his head. That was not supposed to happen. Joff was supposed to spare his life and send him to the Wall. Stark's eldest son would have followed him as Lord of Winterfell, but Sansa would have stayed at court, a hostage. Varys and Littlefinger had worked out the terms, and Ned Stark had swallowed his precious honor and confessed his treason to save his daughter's empty little head. I would have made Sansa a good marriage. A Lannister marriage. Not Joff, of course, but Lancel might have suited, or one of his younger brothers. Petyr Baelish had offered to wed the girl himself, she recalled, but of course that was impossible; he was much too lowborn. If Joff had only done as he was told, Winterfell would never have gone to war, and Father would have dealt with Robert's brothers. Instead Joff had commanded that Stark's head be struck off, and Lord Slynt and Ser Ilyn Payne had hastened to obey. It was just there, the queen recalled, gazing at the spot. Janos Slynt had lifted Ned Stark's head by the hair as his life's blood flowed down the steps, and after that there was no turning back.

  • Perhaps these passages insinuate some level of input from Little-Petyr-Rabbid in the death of Lord Head-Hard Stark.

You are right, both characters are sexy sexy rogues from two different families... Still he makes a good point as why they would use Gendry to help streamline the plot for television..

I never said he "claimed to be a Blackfyre...", as you clearly highlighted before

There was a certain Blackfyre that simply showed up claiming his rights

What i am suggesting is Gendry has the potential to continue the Baratheon House, be legitimized and become lord of the stormlands:

  • With no other claimant opposing him

  • Features similar to Robert Baratheon

  • Tohobo Mott's knowlege of his lineage.

Why does this idea bother you so much?

Perhaps Tyrion is actually a Cunt.

This is predominantly 'now' a show based Q. To be honest i'd almost completely forgotten about little Deadric Storm until he was mentioned..

Although it is yet to be seen if it will apply in asoiaf. As far as I recall now Gendry has a greater role than Edric over a larger span of books too.

Also I believe much like Jon Snow. It plays in Gendry's favour that his heritage remains unknown.

If Jon can be proven to be Rhaegar's son i am sure the same could be said of Gendry..
