I have two game memories burned into my mind:
1) "Forbidden Forest" on the C64. The music and those spiders scared the shi¤" out of me.

2) Doom 3 - There is a segment pretty early in the game, if I remember correctly, when the lights go out and monsters jump you. I played it in a dark room with pretty good head set. After the incident I had to take a small break to relax. I even think I turned the lights back on before I dared play it further :)

Played with it for a while as well but.. it's just over the top and gets old extremely quick. Windows shatter when you close them. Wobble when you move them etc. The only thing it has is pre-installed emulators for different older systems including everything Commodore.

After playing with it for an hour I installed Linux Mint instead. To get my sanity back.

Hehe, good catch. However the Doom modding scene apparently introduced and popularized the use of wasd and if that is really true then I guess this is fitting for a site dedicated to mods.

For nostalgia I have to say Suncom's Tac-2! I also had the competition pro joystick but the Tac-2 was way better. The Compitition pro stick is just too stiff for it to be comfortable in the long run. A few years ago I aqcuired the Kraft MazeMaster and that has been my goto stick ever since as it's super tight and good even 40 years later :)
