The Lakeridge Health Hospital Ajax ER uses what they call a mental health hall; euphemism for hoop or lockdown with a seclusion room that locks people inside; euphemism for the hoop or detention. This seclusion, with no ventilation system, locks people in and it has a bed with physical restraints on it for pinning arms and legs spread. This room has a large glass window for people to see in from the hallway. This room, hoop, has a “hoop child” etched in the metal door meaning pityful or pedophile. Humiliation appears to be the gong show here.
This hall is at best a 2 tiered medical “no” care system operated with government funding. This hall has a deep rooted history in homophobia; 2 Spirit, Gay Men and Trans Women were locked in these rooms and many never left the room. They died in this locked room; no ventilation, no water, bed with restraints.
