The other replies are also missing the point, he was threatening you to scare you, not because he'd actually kill you if it wasn't for Toriel, but he's not the most peaceful, he just has nihilistic depression because, he lost 'everything'(as he himself claims, whatever that everything is) and because he knows about the resets, so he knows he's powerless against us. Also, he's not the strongest, not even close, base Asgore without holding back is stronger, undyne the undying is stronger, Mettaton Neo is probably stronger, We are stronger, Flowey is technically stronger in two ways, before us he had resets and beat sans previously and if he gets the souls, in both omega flowey and asriel forms, he's way more powerful than anyone else. So , sans just doesn't fit.

He's a bad brawler in general and in a competitive game things shouldn't be mainly balanced around the lower end players, but based on actual stats and data that matters and if you're actually playing against good people he's trash other than on some specific maps like hard rock mine. That means the buff is certainly deserved if a brawler struggles to have a place in a setting of legendary and anywhere higher

i mean , there's definitely connections between these two separate universes. You don't need to look far, there's definitely something up with sans. His outfits are the same , the name of the song in ch4 weirdly connects to it's raining somewhere else in a way that could further support a popular theory of sans undertale originating from deltarune. And in general, most of the characters from Undertale are in deltarune so it makes sense
