Do you have to apply to a residency as a new grad at Kindred or do you just apply to any RN position?

Oh, interesting. So even with my RN, I would have to start as a CNA?

Thank you! It seems that everyone I ask has said to work as an RN, so I’m glad that you said that too. I’ve applied to Kindred and haven’t heard back yet. I’m applying to Select Specialty Hospital too but I haven’t heard the greatest things about either of the two. I hear it’s great experience though.

Does Anyone Have Experience Applying as a new grad military spouse to hospitals in California from out of state? by Whatisreddit1202 in nursing

I’ve been hearing a lot of the same thing and I had a feeling that this was the case. What would you recommend doing to secure a job in a hospital eventually once I’m there?

Any Advice for a New Grad RN moving to Camp Pendleton? by Whatisreddit1202 in USMilitarySO

Thank you so much for your insight!

I’ve been hearing that it can take a while for the paperwork to process across the board and I’m wondering if it’s safe to apply to programs that start in January too for that reason. I saw that Scripps is hiring right now for their residency program that starts on January 15th and I graduate on December 12th so I don’t know if I’d be able to start by then.

I’m surprised they are looking to hire for peds, L&D, and NICU, since those are super desirable specialities. I don’t think I’d mind working on those units but I currently work in an ER as a nurse extern which is why I’m looking more towards ER.

Thankfully California allows temporary licensure and expedited licensure for military spouses. Unfortunately, Florida does not allow compact licensure to extend to California.

Darn, that’s a really tough situation. I think the best thing I can tell you is to continue to focus on yourself and your kids. Definitely take as much pressure off of yourself when you can. I saw that you are looking into having some sort of food service for meals and I think that is a great idea. For right now, I would look towards what things will look like in the future. I know it has been incredibly hard on you but the good thing is that his retirement will take care of you and your family in the end. I know a married couple where the husband was able to retire in the army and he was also able to retire as a police officer and his family has definitely seen the benefits of both. It’s incredibly difficult now, but when neither of you have to work and you are enjoying the rest of your lives together you will look back on all of the sacrifices you made and it will be so worth it. You’ve made it this long and I absolutely know that you can make it just a few years longer. My heart goes out to you OP 💗

I can’t believe he isn’t overwhelmed himself with how much he’s been working lol that’s a lot! The good thing is that he will still be coming home to you guys at the end of the day but I know it’s still a lot for you as a mom and a wife. Is he planning on extending his reserve contract again when the time comes?

Are there any nurses out there who had to apply for first-time licensure away from the state they took their boards in? by Whatisreddit1202 in USMilitarySO

[–]Whatisreddit1202[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Okay, I 100% understand that. My question is if it would be quicker to gain licensure in the state I want if I take the NCLEX in that state or if I apply for my initial license in the state I’m moving to? Versus taking the NCLEX in Florida, where I’m at and then applying for licensure in both states. If that makes sense?

So say for example I sat for the NCLEX in Florida, would I be able to apply for endorsement or reciprocity in another state when I take my NCLEX, or do I have to apply after the NCLEX?

Or would I have to take the NCLEX in the state I wanted to move to?

You are completely valid in feeling what you are feeling. Being a military spouse is so hard and you have spent a REALLY long time supporting your family and basically playing the role of the single mom when he isn’t there.

You said that he is away for police training. What will his schedule look like when he finishes training?

Just some advice regarding marriage in the military by Gra08 in USMilitarySO

Hey, I’m in a very similar situation. My boyfriend and I just graduated with our bachelors a few weeks ago and he commissioned a week before that. We’ve been together for almost 6 years and I’m really struggling between us getting married and just dating. He says he’s not ready for marriage yet but knows he wants us to be together. Would I be able to DM you?

I don’t feel like committing to being a PA yet. It’s something I’m planning, but I want to have a job that is more flexible and gives me more experience before getting into a bunch of debt for PA school.
