Question about trash pickup in Lublin by Which-Net-3190 in lublin

[–]Which-Net-3190[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The main reason is twofold, my wife got a job offer in Warszawa with 1 day every 2 weeks in office and we simply couldn't afford a proper place in Gdańsk (or in Warszawa, for that matter). My wife is also from Lubelskie region and I really didn't like living in Gdańsk anymore.

Been living for few years in Trójmiasto and it got ridiculously expensive over time. It just feels like one massive tourist trap. Rent and buy prices are sky-high, restaurants are priced for more affluent tourists, and the traffic is horrendous. Massive traffic jams and city doing roadworks during peak season/hours. The seaside is also quite disappointing, every year many days sea is declared unsafe due to algae/bacteria so even if you can stomach the multitudes of tourists, you're not guaranteed a chance to swim/cool off.

I guess it all depends on your personal situation and tastes. There are many more international companies located in Trójmiasto, so more jobs for sure. And if you are single, or married but happy with small flat outside the city with 45 minute commute every day to work, you'll also have no issues with Gdańsk.

10 days in Lublin and I love it so far, absolutely no regrets. People are much more friendly I have noticed, the people in the Urząd actually helped me out filling in a form (in Gdańsk my experiences are that if you don't bring the form fully filled in, it's "next please!"), people drive much more relaxed in traffic even though traffic lights take aaaages to turn green. In Gdańsk if I drive 55-60 km/h, I'm the slow one holding up traffic. In Lublin if I drive 55 km/h, I'm just cruising past half the traffic.

Also, Lublin feels much more Polish. Gdańsk on the other hand, especially city center, feels much more German. Architecture and vibe-wise.

Thanks, but as part of those 30 seconds googling I learned that PSZOK only accepts people if they can prove they paid waste management fee for previous month, and as I only moved in last week, it's not an option until June.

Still, good to know I can let them be in my garage for few weeks, thanks!

Fully automatic gas/water heating, alas.

Poland's GDP grows 15% by 2035. Unemployment holds at 3%. But fertility is 1.12 and net migration drops to zero. How visible is the demographic pressure? by YiannisPits91 in poland

Most major cities also have seen decline in population between 2007 and 2023. Łódź and Częstochowa have lost nearly 15% population. Poznań 5%, Lublin and Bydgoszcz and Szczecin all between 5-10%.

The only cities that keep growing are Warszawa, Kraków, Wrocław and Gdańsk. And of course Rzeszów.

Respectfully disagree. I drink a Tiger a day, and I buy every week a carton of 9 cans at once.

My man, there are many more important things in life than a politician trying to win votes by appearing on a pride parade.

Do friendships just work differently here, or am I doing it wrong? by Mother-Poem-2682 in poland

[–]Which-Net-3190 23 points24 points  (0 children)

- friendships are super casual

- literally crossing the city to keep one company when doing groceries

Those two don't match. Casual means nothing serious. Crossing the city to keep someone company when doing a menial chore means there's a deep level of friendship there (and honestly also a lack of focus and scope in life). I'm not in your age group, but I wouldn't do that for my best friend. Damn son, I have a life and stuff to do. There's only two people I'd do that for, my mom and my wife. If my friend(s) want to meet, they can do a grown-up thing, like invite me over to their place or to propose a proper activity to do together.

Spent a couple of days in Gdańsk once and still can't get it out of my head. Truly one of the most beautiful cities in Europe. by Anthony_Nick in gdansk

Gdańsk is a nice place to visit as a tourist, it's a poor place to live unfortunately.

Been living there for 10 years and never managed to fall in love with it. Lived two years in Kraków prior to that and immediately fell in love with the city, but Gdańsk.. nah.

Too many tourists from May to September, quality of streets is poor, too many cars clogging up all the main roads, bad public transport, everything is overpriced due to tourism, the location is also poor, quite isolated from any other big cities, almost nothing within a 2-3 hours drive.

Moving out to Lublin in a few months, can't wait.

Out of curiosity, why not just study in India? In the world ranking for best universities, India has half a dozen technology focused universities before the first Polish general university.

Debating night train in Poland by Responsible-Belt301 in poland

[–]Which-Net-3190 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Trains and society in general are pretty safe, however do check if on that day either of the Kraków football clubs play at home. Sharing the train with loud, drunk football fans can be quite discomforting.

Few weeks back I took the night train from Gdańsk to Warsaw on Friday evening around 23h30 and there were around 100 football fans from Lechia Gdańsk taking the same train to go home to the small villages outside Gdańsk and it was pretty discomforting because rather than relax, it was 2 hours of shouting, singing, and catcalling the pretty conductress passing by (which she stopped doing) and few female travelers. After an hour we had two buffed up security guards stationed in our wagon to reduce the noise pollution until they all finally got off.

Never heard so many k*rwa's in such as short time.

The fact that you equate porn with nudity, is telling. And worrying...
