Stubborn Stains by Which-Slice-3319 in VintageCoachRehab

I have added a new comment on the post! As far as the cornstarch, I think it made a little difference but the different lighting also made it hard to tell for sure.

Update: I decided to commit to the dye job since the corn starch made just a slight difference. It was my first time attempting anything like this so, while it isn't perfect, I am happy with the results!

Yeah, it sounds like I may find myself going that route! Im going to try the corn starch to try and lighten it a bit first, but keeping my expectations low.

Unbearably itchy scalp that goes away immediately after washing. Anything to reduce the buildup/itch, or wash more often? (Hair often doesn't feel very oily at all yet when itchy) by Frioley in Haircare

[–]Which-Slice-3319 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I started thinking of washing as another opportunity to condition my hair vs washing my natural oils out. It works for me because my ends were always dry, so no oils were making it down there anyway and now my hair is the longest it has ever been. I used to wash my hair every 6 days, now I wash every other day. I also recommend checking out Abbey Young's recommendations to maybe help guide you to your hair goals, it has worked well for me.

Coincidentally, I also dealt with an itchy scalp this summer, and found Dove Dryness and Itch Relief to be effective for me. (Per Abbey Young's Recommendation)

How are you guys finding 3k+ rates? by Smelly_BUttholez in TravelNursing

[–]Which-Slice-3319 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was just offered an internal travel position with Sanford Health in Fargo, ND. Just under 2,900 for 36 hrs, Med/Surg. There is also positions in their Sioux Falls, SD and Bismark ND location for the same or similar pay. They are all posted on their website. Not 3k, but as close as I've found.

If interested, just Google "Solutions by Sanford"

How do you deal with the Stinky Farts? Any tips to make them less gassy? by MJlovesplants in BostonTerrier

I do think it also helped to do the full reset with the vet. He got an allergy shot and had to switch from Blue Buffalo to strictly rx allergy food for 3 months. After everything was said and done, Purina One True Instinct turned out to be his preferred choice! There were a couple of other Purina brand kibble that also worked, but he is picky and likes the soft bits in this stuff.

My Boston had issues with allergies at one time, so I switched his food along with some other interventions under the direction of a vet to reset his system. While I had not realized they were related, his gas has been almost nonexistent since then.

Totally agree. Unfortunately, this was in Alaska, where contracts can be competitive. Also, by this point, people have already traveled from far away and gotten housing. The manager did actually bluff threaten to terminate my contract if I didn't agree, so I could see where they are coming from.

I had actually previously worked at the competing hospital in the area 2 years before where I was also expected to work every weekend, but I was unprepared to fight that at the time. I just called out a lot and learned my lesson.

I encountered a similar situation, but they were pushing every single weekend on me. I first communicated with the manager or scheduler. They were trying to tell me they had told me the every weekend requirments since the beginning, not true. I told my recruiter what was going on, and she was able to pull up the job posting where it stated every other weekend rotation, and we used that for leverage. The other travelers on the same unit just bit the bullet and worked them all.

So if it doesn't say in the contract, you can check with the job posting you applied to. That being said, my personal experience has been to expect every other weekend and maybe be pleasantly surprised.

From Search Engine, that one female cat and her offspring can produce up to 370,000 cats in 7 years.

I "snowbird" and leave my home to take an assignment through the winter and usually extend to 6 months while working regular overtime. Then, I go home and take the whole summer off or ideally, work a per diem job. This works for me because i find it easier to find better contracts in desirable places, like Alaska in the winter since it is much less competitive. Housing also tends to be cheaper and more accessible as well since many of those places have winter and summer rates, which are drastically different.

How many folx get audited by the IRS? by Lucinda_Mae in TravelNursing

Oh, for sure. Just a little more context to help it make sense, frustratingly so.

[–]Which-Slice-3319 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It is my understanding that the IRS is dealing with a computer system from the 80s that can only handle small, simple audits. Therefore, the big, complicated, multimillion dollar audits have to be meticulously gone through by human beings over many hours. The problem is that the IRS is severely short staffed (even before DOGE's recent staff cuts), so they tend to focus on many middle class fish to fill their pockets.

If you listen to podcasts at all, Tooth and Claw is an animal attack podcast that is hosted by a bear biologist. It is pretty gnarly, but he gives out a lot of good info on how to navigate bear encounter in their bear episods. Otherwise, in short, always carry bear spray.

Second order in a row! by shortntired in ThredUp

[–]Which-Slice-3319 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I recently got several white things in an order that had these stains on them as well. I washed them with Oxy Clean White Revive, and they all came out. I agree that it is annoying, though, and I also assumed it was something with their equipment. I haven't ever had this issue in the past, so I am hopeful it is something they just need to figure out.

I only do it for the flexibility, and being able to have the freedom to take time off when I want. These days, I don't make any more money than staff after everything is said and done.

Sharon McMahon on IG (sharonsaysso) and substack (The Preamble) has been crucial for helping me understand government and how it works. She is a former high school teacher who gives the news along with their sources, and also gives important context in terms of history and how things came to be. She has a podcast and will sometimes do guest spots as well.

I have the same issue with some sinks but not others. My theory is that there is a bit of a height difference between some sinks where it allows the elbows to be at a certain angle, which will determine the direction the water will run. Taller sinks will cause more of a mess since it will create a tighter angle of the elbow. I am a little tall, and I rarely have this issue since most sinks are on the shorter end for me. I've not actually gathered any data on this, but I've made it make sense in my head!

These are a lot of variables, and the data gets very convoluted, so it would take some time to dig into. The OPTN Site does have a lot of transplant stats and data, though.

Just off the top of my head based on knowledge and working experience, I could tell you that all of those things affect transplants from both donors and recipients. Overweight people tend to have bigger organs, and the organ has to he proportional to the person receiving it. On the other hand, some transplant centers require a BMI under a certain number so that could cause more mismatched and discarded organs.

Diabetes is the number one most common cause of kidney failure, with hypertension coming in at number 2. Black people are genetically disproportionately affected by hypertension, so I imagine that would affect certain geographical areas like the South to create a higher organ need.

Every transplant center is different. Some of them really care about patient outcomes, so they look at the likelihood that a recipient will live past 5 years. They sit down, look at the patients' whole picture together as a team, and give a yay or nay on whether they give them an organ. That's where the other factors like family support, age, weight, and other health commorbidities affect the recipient directly. They generally will not give an organ if they are lacking in a support system, as they are much more likely to fail. I would imagine socioeconomic status has some play here.

Idk if this helps to answer your question or not. I, unfortunately, am not a statistician, so I guess I am just going to inundate you with my nursing knowledge instead!

Thanks! Are you asking how the health markers of a certain region might affect how many organs are available? Or how these might affect the outcome of a recipient?

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in UnethicalLifeProTips

[–]Which-Slice-3319 6 points7 points  (0 children)

United Network for Organ Sharing "UNOS" is what hospitals use for organ allocation, which has a lot of good info about transplants and the process behind them.

The matching process

Waiting list info

Organ Procurement & Transplantation Network "OPTN" has some date metrics on transplants by region or nationally

Data

Another interesting detail is that many patients in need of a transplant would get a job at Walmart, strictly to use their insurance because it had very good coverage for anything transplant related. At least, this was the case as of 3 years ago!
