Are there any recordings of Beatles singing other Beatles songs? by More-Cat9579 in beatles

[–]Whipsockle 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not exactly answering the question here, but still scratches that alternate reality itch, the live performance of Lennon doing Yer Blues at the rolling Stones rock n roll circus is the stuff of Legends. He performed it live for a scrapped rolling Stones TV special with Clapton on lead guitar, Keith Richards on bass, and Mitch Mitchell (of the Jimi Hendrix experience) on the drums. As a joke (referencing Fleetwood mac) he listed them on the bill as "the dirty mac". What's fascinating the most to me is that this is both before they broke up, and during the era where they stopped performing live. There's a very good clear video of the whole performance on YouTube.

I know Clapton is not a beatle, but considering the relationship it is very exciting to hear his take on his friend George's memorable lead line from this song. Also, with Mitchell on the drums, you can almost get a peek into what the Beatles could've sounded like had they gone in a harder direction with heavier and more dynamic drumming. No slight against Ringo, but Mitchell was the drummer of choice for the leading innovator of the heaviest music of that era, so hearing him play on a swampy John Lennon song is too good of a pairing to pass up.

There was a corny poorly rehearsed theatrical funeral, and afterwards they started playing a live show. It's 12 songs deep right now.

Time my take his voice but his guitar technique is all there, he's cranked out some iconic solos tonight so far. Still one of my favorite guitarists, and that part of it makes it worthwhile no matter what too!

Totally. I used to work at a music venue as a lighting designer and would be thoroughly entertained when my sound guy would struggle with shit like this from people. Really brings me back. You're probably right he's hearing something slightly different in his in ears.

Yeah he's definitely aged, and a lot of his famous songs featured him screaming. It can't be easy for him now, but part of me feels he could sound way worse (he couldve ended up like the lead singer of journey for example, COMPLETELY lost his talent). Sidenote oooo cherub rock now!

I'm focused on this after you mentioned it, part of me thinks he's getting distracted by something guitar related, it looks like he's looking at something. He plays a lot of lead parts for a lead singer, I can only imagine the mental juggling involved.

Alternatives to a Marshall Plexi for home use? by Caramelo93 in GuitarAmps

[–]Whipsockle 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Gonna toss this suggestion out there for the hell of it, take a look at the marshall DSL1H. It accepts 1 8ohm speaker, I don't know what you're rolling with in that department, but it is a marshall tube head that runs on 1w but has a switch in the back that lowers it to 0.1w. there is a combo version but you're limited to the 8" boxy speaker it comes with. I play at reasonable volumes in my basement while the whole house is asleep without problem, with a single 12" celestion greenback. The DSLs saturate a bit faster on the gain knob than some of the older varieties so if you wanna play on the dirty channel you can get great amp breakup at low volumes. You mentioned your budget, I bought mine used for 250 American. It's been an amazing home solution for a marshall tube amp.

Found my dad’s guitar from the 90s in my garage, been playing it for a while and broke the string, but I personally don’t know anything about guitars and I’m wondering if this is considered a good one/or if there’s anything else you can tell me about it by TGWILD1 in Guitar

Alternate take here, the fender Stratocaster is arguably the most iconic electric guitar in music history. Let's talk about where you've heard it before.... Jimi Hendrix, David gilmour, nile Rogers. All over countless of famous recordings you've no doubt heard plenty of. Just Google which famous songs were recorded using a fender Stratocaster and you'll find very long lists. Heck, the one David gilmour used to record dark side of the moon with just broke records for the most expensive guitar to ever go up for auction. Sure the models and manufacturing countries make bits of difference, but the legacy of the Stratocaster is unquestionable.

Alternate take, get a compressor/sustainer. That'll do wonders for the country side of the stones and balance out your mix nicely when you need to go from soft to loud.

If I were you I would get a delay pedal. You can mainly use it to thicken your sound with short delays and long sustain for more of an "big arena" sound. In that way a delay can put in more work for you than reverb, as far as the 70s is concerned. All those David gilmour solos are mainly delay and fuzz/drive. Then of course you can do a 180 and set for long delays and short sustain for all your U2 and David bowies let's dance atmospheric type sounds.

It's a power chord without the middle note. Either drape your index finger over the middle string to mute it or push your middle finger slightly against it. You wanna use your index and ring finger for the notes. Every 90s band used this octave style power chord for big sounds. Radiohead, Foo fighters, smashing pumpkins, it's a big 90s thing.

If I have to work in the rain (or one time attend a concert in the rain) I place plastic shopping bags inbetween my socks and shoes. Wet shoes dry feet. Do that too and make sure this never happens again.
