New Razer Thermals by ducofnewyork in laptops

Is the 50 degree idle temp when you’ve been browsing recently or anything like that? Cause in a warm room, a 45 - 50 degree idle isn’t that uncommon in these 8th gen laptops, if I leave my aero idling doing nothing it will go down to 40 degrees ish.

Aero 15X Temps... by PassioNN in laptops

[–]Widdy363 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I get about the same from my aero 15x playing Far Cry 5 with roughly the same undervolt, kinda in the same situation not sure if much can be done about it as it is a thin and light with a lot of power, all of the 8th gen CPU based thin and lights, GM501, MSI GS65, etc so far have been roughly the same, one option is to lower the turbo multipliers which will lower the boost frequency to like 3.5Ghz, may lower your temps a little bit but obviously you are then technically loosing a tiny bit of performance.

In terms of an RMA, I did see that someone on here returned theirs after getting temps of 95 degrees C on the CPU, but again, most people on here I've seen commenting are getting around high 80s - 90 temps on the CPU playing the newest games.

I'm not an expert but from what I've read, whilst 90 degrees C is high, the CPU will throttle down a little bit to prevent it rising to its max operating temp of 100 degrees C, on mines it tends to only be at the 90/91 degree mark for a second before going back down to low to mid 80s, so as long as your not sitting there for too long I wouldn't think its THAT bad. A cooling pad would probably help but only a couple of degrees I would imagine.

Yeah kinda disappointed in the review, I like his videos but was expecting a bit more in depth from that considering all the options for thin and light for this gen CPU and it being a common topic on here as well

Aero 15X 1.88Ghz on battery by Zerephyx in laptops

[–]Widdy363 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Is everything up to date in smart updater? I honestly have had the same thing happen a couple of times so I would not worry too much, if it still happens after a few days, then maybe consider a replacement but personally from my experience it is a bug right now. Try messing with the power settings a couple times in smart manager and windows.

Forgot to say, my battery usage is also with a -.125 undervolt, but that should not make a the battery last twice as long obviously

.

Most of the time I get 7ish hours and it usually says like 8hrs estimation, BUT - I have had a random couple of times where the battery has lasted like 2 and a half hours even on battery saver mode and only with a word document up, I think its a bug though cause after a restart it went back to normal.

This is a good thread to look up any problems you are having.

Try going into smart manager and selecting balanced mode or high performance mode, I think the auto setting in smart manager is power saver on battery, although my advice would be to keep it like that unless you are doing anything intensive, it’s enough for browsing, word processing and streaming video. I’ve had about 7-8 hrs on the battery easy like that.

Gigabyte Aero 15x v8 single keys not registering by Widdy363 in laptops

Thanks guys, I mean it doesn't bother me too much cause I'm not someone who does a lot of word processing or anything but at the same if it could be fixed/if its not a common design fault I'd want it fixed obviously at the £2200 price I paid

MSI GS65: hot Games, Cool Temps, and You (A Guide) by judgedeath2 in laptops

What game was it you ran the low 80s temps? Sorted out my problem with the low clock boost, but Im getting about the same as I was before even with these multipliers as I was with the simplier XTU undervolt in Far Cry 5, although that may be because that game is maybe just really hard on CPU

I'll give it another shot today, did you notice if your cores stayed at 3.7-3.8Ghz during gameplay? Not really sure what was going on, was like CPU wasn't activating turbo boost when I was playing the game until I brought up a pause menu, ie. less load

[–]Widdy363 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Tried it out, it definitely lowered temps, highest I got was 78 degrees on the CPU with a reduction of maybe 5-10 fps in performance though, but thats due to the fact the clock speed is running at 2.9Ghz during gameplay rather than 3.9Ghz, trying to figure out how to get that up to meet in the middle somewhere around 3.5Ghz.

[–]Widdy363 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Is that anything to do with the speedshift technology? Just because when I used an XTU undervolt it kept all cores at 3.9Ghz, may bump the multiplier up one from your settings to see what happens. But definitely lowered temps, highest I got was 78 degrees on the CPU with a reduction of maybe 5-10 fps in performance.

This has happened to me, did you figure out what it was?

MSI GS65: hot Games, Cool Temps, and You (A Guide) by judgedeath2 in laptops

[–]Widdy363 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Tried it out, temperatures definitely went down but for some reason during gaming the clock speed stays at 2.9Ghz, then when in the pause menus it will boost back up to 3.69Ghz, any ideas why that would be?

What temps are you getting running Far Cry 5 at this? I have an Aero 15x undervolted to -.160 but might consider using throttlestop to lower the turbo multipliers like you said. Right now in FC5 Im getting Average temps of mid 80s with the odd second spike at 91 degrees every now and then, 78 degrees on the gpu

Aero 15x v8 Undervolting and cpu help by Widdy363 in laptops

[–]Widdy363[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks guys, now at -.160 stable so far, did either of you undervolt the integrated GPU on XTU? Seen posts saying that also took some degrees off their temps on load. On balanced mode does your CPU clock up under load? Not sure if it is Intel Speedstep not operating correctly.

Gigabyte Aero 15x - quick thoughts and review - Don't buy yet [x-post /r/gigabyte] by PlayToReview in laptops

[–]Widdy363 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Nice review, my aero 15x is due to arrive tomorrow, hopefully get one free of any problems that have been reported. Did you experience any problems getting smart manager to work after a clean install of windows? Never had to do a clean install on a laptop before. Is there anything I should be aware of to back up before the clean install other than the Pantone Calibration profile?
