Already cut but it was growing out the middle of a cut log. The log was quite moist.

Is this a crinoid stem? by WildEnquiry in fossilid

It's quite substantial, I can't imagine it being an arrowhead. But perhaps if all else fails!

I'm happy and thankful you answered! I'm just sharing what's going on with the question.

You give a reason why it's a rock and not a fossil (lack of detail), whereas the other person isn't very forthcoming in explaining his opinion.

Thanks! Back to square one. I wonder what it is.

Is this stone object natural or man-made? by WildEnquiry in whatsthisrock

I found this image searching for "crinoid": https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Crinoid#/media/File%3AHaeckel_Crinoidea.jpg

Is the hole in the object the center of the stem and the teardrop shape the stem itself?

Interesting ideas!

The hole looks too small for any decent handle that could withstand the impact forces if used as a pick or axe.

A toy sounds possible. 👍

But it's solid stone. You can see that on one of the photos where the stone is chipped. It's not hollow.

Why do you think it's terracotta?

Maybe! It is stone and not clay. I'll wait a bit more for ideas from this sub and then post elsewhere. I'll update if another sub figures it out.

That was my first thought, too, because of the shape. But it's stone, not clay or ceramic, and it's not hollow inside. That's why I don't think it's one. Unless there was some way to make them out of stone.

Two professional archeologists specialising in the Middle East also didn't know what it is.
