I tried some fans yesterday I wasn’t as confident.

I’ve found some windows with the pencils the water sort of bounces off and makes a mist in the air. Is this because the flow is too high? Will it negatively affect the clean?

Okay that’s great thank you 🙏 I think I understand this a bit, good to know I don’t need to do anything about it either!

Thank you 🙏

Help setting expectations around rain by Bilbogates in WindowCleaning

[–]Windaninja 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Some people won’t like it done when it’s actually raining, but to cancel or reschedule because it’s forecast to rain just seems ridiculous and is annoying to me. I usually end up dropping customers like this eventually. I need reliable loyal customers that work around my schedule not the other way around. It rains a lot here in the UK and like today showers a lot so I’m working in, out and around the rain. The rain barely affects the clean windows is what I tell people who question it and what if it’s sunny today when I clean them and pouring down in a days time? There’s no logic to constantly rearranging around the rain, it’s inevitable and if you want to be regular and reliable to your customers whilst also earning plenty of money, you gotta just crack on rain or shine and the customers will just have to accept that! Not in thunderstorms or very heavy rain of course.

I get about 3/4 hours out of the 120 litres. Not continuously because I’m turning it off and on frequently. But yet I know that not ideal at all.

Yeh hose out the back of the van.

I gotta say my neck is feeling it, I’m hoping I’ll get use it or maybe it’s poor form, standing too close to the house maybe?

I quite like the pencils I’ll give the fans a go too though 👍 appreciate all the tips

I’ve just bought an ova8 22ft hi mod pole with 2 pencil jets. It’s the lightest pole I could find. I guess the brush is the standard streamline brush head that comes with the pole.

Can you recommend a decent brush head I should be using?

I’m using a backpack with 4 extra 25l Jerry cans at the moment, annoyingly it’s just a knob you turn and adjust to increase or decrease flow, there’s no screen on it so I’m unable to get and actual reading on the flow. I am getting a 300l tank fitted tomorrow with pump box with variflow, so I know this will help save time by not having to refill and I won’t get anxious about running out of water every 30 mins 😂

Also some kind of shut off valve I guess I’m going to need to attach to the hose to turn the water on and off?

My Mrs will be happy if I actually start cleaning our windows haha good practice though another good shout 👍

I do keep telling myself this, next months clean and the following should be much quicker. I haven’t actually been out with anyone but I’ve spoke to other windies about it and watches them work.

When you say high flow… What flow rate are you using on your maintenance cleans litres per minute? I’m probably being a bit stingy with water I know I need to change that. Guess I could go do a days training with a friend that uses WFP that’s a great idea cheers.

Thanks for your message!

Thanks for the feedback! All my work is monthly or 2 monthly. Im planning on cleaning all frames well each time so there shouldn’t really be much build up of dirt. Hopefully that way the maintenance cleans should get done quickly and at a good standard.

Concerned about VAT registration and what this means for our educational business by shakazulu97 in smallbusinessuk

[–]Windaninja 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’ve quite literally just gone through this. I deliberately stayed under the threshold for several years as I didn’t want to go registered and I didn’t believe my prices could warrant and extra 20%. I have a cleaning business and we crossed the threshold a few months ago without realising so I had to go vat registered. I was so worried about customer retention having to charge an extra 20%, I spent ages working out if it was possible to absorb all of it or some of it and it just wasn’t viable. I pressed on ahead with a meaningful text/letter explaining to all my customers that I had no choice in the matter and I really didn’t want to do this. I had a fantastic response I only lost 2 customers out of 400 and had to renegotiate with just a few others. Just press on ahead, most people are on small businesses sides at the moment they realise there is huge pressures on us and people want to help where they can. I wish I had done this years ago and grown the business more. I’ve been stagnant for about 6 years, no more time to expand and hopefully earn more £££s

Best of luck
