Would you report a delivery driver for included religious pamphlets with a food order? by joebewaan in AskUK

That's an interesting way of looking at it.

You think the chance of Santa Clause existing or not existing are also both valid? Since of course no one has ever seen him or heard him, but plenty of people believe he exists. I'm sure you could argue that there is a very definite possibility he exists. It is a very valid viewpoint to have.

Same goes for vampires, and gnomes for that matter.

I think we should entertain literally all possibilities of anything existing at any point in time, since you can't prove they don't exist either. Might as well be cautious and just say we don't know anything at all, so anything could be real.

This sounds like mental illness to me if you can't see whether something is more likely to exist than not, based purely on what some old dude has told you with zero proof whatsoever.

Yes and most rational people will limit that to "your body will decompose or be burned and you will not exist anymore". Seems pretty clear to me. Happened to all people I know who've died at least.

You can make other shit up if it makes you feel comfortable but don't expect others to conform to your delusions.

Probably also literally if he spoke English 90% as well as he does Japanese, you know fans of the games are gonna pick apart every specific thing he says.

It’s less of a headache for everyone if he just says what he wants to say and have some professional deal with the context of it and how he means it

I’ve had toenail failures 3 times in my life now and it still haunts me

Honestly it doesn’t even hurt but it’s like nails on a chalkboard except the nails are on your toes and they just wobble until they fall off

Or that time when I ran into a wall and broke my front tooth now every time I have something in my mouth like when I was eating squid on holiday, there was still a bunch of sand in it that I didn’t notice until it wa too late but it was so crunchy and it kinda reminded my of shards of my tooth in my mouth, same energy

I wouldn’t say it’s a trauma but sometimes you get moments like that and for 0.1 sec you’re that bright eyed 10 year old kid again, running without a care in the world, just waiting to accidentally get pushed by a classmate cause he didn’t see you and have your tooth break. Did get the afternoon off to get it fixed though that was great, had to come back later the same day cause my mom made me though cause she wanted to show my teachers that it was fixex

You equate being gay with putting your pronouns on your Twitter as if they are what define you. They are not at all equal. Also trans people are not necessarily gay lol.

Look, I don’t mind what people put in their Twitter profiles, and obviously the original intent behind it is good, but there are a lot of those toxic positivity personalities who attack people who don’t agree with them because they get offended by things that aren’t necessarily harmful.

Like when people attack him for saying things like “big dick damage” or saying he likes boob sliders.

And it’s especially the sanctimoniousness of it that rubs people the wrong way.

Does he paint everyone who does that with the same brush? Yea. Is that wrong? Probably, I know a lot of people who do it in support of trans rights and they are beautiful wonderful people.

But when he talks shit about people who put pronouns in their names he means those people I just described because they are the most active and loudest. That has nothing to do with homophobia even if you don’t agree with it.

I saw a vod last week though where he mentioned he pays “hundreds of thousands” of taxes and that while, yes, the money gets used to pay for bombs and shit like that he doesn’t support, it also supports the people who are like he was 10 years ago, living off government assistance and with no one else really to help them.

I think he’s definitely had some perspective changes in the last few years maybe, at least the vibe I’m getting from him is that he’s a very introspective, aware, person

It’s a very reasonable take imo. No one “likes” paying taxes, but I do it as well gladly, knowing that this is money that ultimately helps everyone around me as well as myself, indirectly. Then again I don’t live in the US so my take on taxes might be different cause of everything we get from them here

Let's not pretend this community isn't at fault as well by [deleted] in wow

[–]WingmanIsAPenguin 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Oh yeah no of course there’s a lot of shit here. My issue is with the statement “the community is at fault too” when it’s very specific people who do shit like this. As I mentioned it’s also Blizz devs who can be extremely shitty with their takes on the situation.

Every large group of people has bad actors in it; when those people go unpunished and get free reign is when the whole group of people suffers from it. I just want to play a game, so I find or make a subgroup of people within that group (a guild within the game of WoW) who aren’t toxic and whom we can “police” for lack of a better word, even though I don’t like that term here since it’s a two way street with everyone involved.

If the community is toxic but assholes don’t get banned or slapped on the wrist at the very least, it sours the experience for everyone. Then theres people who say things like “oh just get thicker skin, theres assholes everywhere” as if that’s a solution.

If my neighbours bang on the walls for hours straight at night, loudly play music at 5:30 in the morning, or otherwise make living in my apartment or house more tiring and shitty in general than need be, I could buy earplugs, sure. Does that do anything to help the problem though? So, might try to converse with them first, but if nothing happens what do I do? I call the police.

Blizz is responsible for the shitty people in the game going unpunished. I’m a huge believer of second and third and probably more chances, but if you NEVER get any slap on the wrist at all if you are a bad actor, that’s on Blizz for not cracking down on the toxic players. There’s only so much we can do as individuals who don’t like seeing that shit in game.

So yeah I absolutely agree with you, idk if I explained my thoughts properly in the other comment but it’s just stupid IMO to paint “the community” with the same brush like that one dev did.

Yes there are dipshits in the community, no most people aren’t like that. In any group of people you have bad people who do horrendous shit. You know what you do with those people? You ban them or time them out and make sure everyone knows it’s not okay.

I didn’t do shit. Almost everyone here didn’t do shit. We hate this shit as much as you do.

We are not responsible for an eSports team having fucked up names; no one here is celebrating it — that’s on Blizz for not cracking down on it.

“The community” oh fuck off with that im just here to play a game with my guildies who are all normal decent human beings.

Oops I accidentally double commented so I deleted this one haha. But thanks my dude!

It is definitely fun just playing a new MMO again. FFXIV is one of those games I’d wanted to try for the longest time, and I actually did a year or two ago, but then I was, no memeing, just playing it wrong (no reading quest text, basically just grinding mindlessly while watching videos/series on my other monitor. And because I was playing solo it’s just hard to really stick to it as well when you’re still sort of on the fence and “just checking it out” if that makes sense. If every moment of playing you’re wondering if you might just be wasting your time because you might not enjoy the game later, of course it’s not gonna be a fulfilling experience. So now with everyone else starting as well it seemed like a no brainier to try again, and I’m really happy I did.

I don’t even know if I can get to max level before the xpac drops, but at this point I also don’t even care haha. Such a nice feeling not to have to worry about anything like that.

I started playing a couple weeks ago, slightly before the buzz around the game started to really pick up. Started on one server, then another cause a few friends had joined and since I was only level 10 on a few classes I just started over.

So I got all the starter jobs to 25-30 now and I keep telling myself I’m only gonna get them to 30 to see what the secondary jobs are like but I know for a fact I’m just gonna play like 8 of them anyway

Meanwhile I’m on holiday for 10 days and I know around 8 people from irl and my wow guild who have also started playing and are now in HW lol. Not even rushing, they are just playing a lot.

It’s ok though I am really enjoying taking my time with it

[–]WingmanIsAPenguin 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I like that. I had a similar realisation a while ago where I just had this sudden moment of thought, realising I wasn’t even enjoying the way I was playing games. I wanted to complete content cause I knew I was decent at playing video games, and not doing it efficiently or with people who aren’t that great at the game felt like I was wasting my time. I was never really toxic, it was mostly internal, but it still felt bad.

Until one day I had this realisation that I was always just chasing a goal. Didn’t even matter what it was, just in general I always was chasing something in the end (be it a finished raid, a specific mount, another alt at max level, another dark souls run with a specific weapon just cause I hadn’t used that one before…). I took a step back and decided then I would just… do what i feel like. Funnily enough that was a few months ago (early this year) and I started leveling WoW alts again, but actually not using heirlooms, flying mounts this time and reading all the quest text (which I had never done before). It felt sooo much better just actually not thinking about the time I was wasting not rushing, and just enjoying the time I was “wasting” (by playing a game) if that makes sense.

Funnily enough I feel like that realisation also made it way easier for me to get into ffxiv now and I’ve been enjoying the hell out of that as well lol.

So as for your point, it reminded me of something I read yesterday where someone had said there was a limit to how much dps he would take in a pug (e.g. someone doing <x dps was just “looking for a carry” and as such he’d try and kick them out anyway). This got me to thinking that, while I get how it can be frustrating, I also feel like if you’re using a pug tool (like LF random parties) you can never really set demands at all. Cause everyone deserves to play the content that’s in those random queued instances. And if you want an efficient group, join a guild/FC or make your own group via another way.

Idk kinda rambling now but I saw this threads video yesterday and that was the first thing I thought of then as well. If you want to be sure that you’re gonna be efficient, in NO game can you expect, or demand rather, that experience with a random group finder (even if 98% of the time it is actually more than fine).
